Chapter 60 Li Fugui Comes Knocking

Chapter 60 Li Fugui Comes Knocking

Wan Qiqi cannot deny what happened, nor does she intend to hide it. However, regarding those events, she is both the protagonist and an observer.

In the winter of her fourth year of marriage to Chen Yongnian, she returned to her parents' home. As in previous years, she took some of the best things from the house with her. However, this time she was not satisfied with what she had and took a fancy to a piece of jade in her elder brother's room.

Those were her sister-in-law's dowry items, and no matter how much she made a fuss, no one agreed to them.

So, while her elder brother and sister-in-law were away, she secretly slipped into her elder brother's room and stole the jade artifact.

Wan Qiqi remembers that year a heavy snow fell, and a thick layer of snow piled up on the ground.

As she stepped outside, she bumped into Wan Tingsheng's son, Jixiang. The little boy, who was barely as tall as her legs, pointed at her and yelled, "Little aunt, you thief! Give me back my mother's things!"

The original owner glanced at him coldly, fiddling with the jade in her hand, a smirk playing on her lips. "Who said this is your mother's? It's clearly mine! You little brat, get lost and don't bother me." With that, she turned and walked away.

Jixiang ran over and grabbed her leg, saying, "No, you can't."

The original owner glanced at him and said coldly, "Let go, or don't blame me for being impolite!"

"Give me back the jade first."

"Dream on!" The original owner shoved the little hands that were clinging to her leg away and walked out without looking back.

Jixiang got up and immediately chased after him, but slipped on the snow and fell down the stone steps, her cries echoing throughout the courtyard.

In Wan Qiqi's memory, the original owner did not feel guilty about this. On the contrary, she felt that Jixiang deserved it and should not have stopped her. So later, when faced with the old master's reproach, she did not care and even made the old master fall down in anger in public.

After that, the relationship between the Wan family and the original owner broke down. The eldest sister-in-law even clamored to send her to the authorities. In the end, the original owner's own mother couldn't bear to part with her and didn't send her to the government, but she also told her not to go back to the Wan family.

After this incident, everyone advised the Chen family to divorce Wan Qiqi, but the original owner of the body seemed indifferent, even making various threats and frequently visiting her parents' home, making people think that she had a good relationship with her family.

In reality, only the original owner of this body knew that she hadn't gone back to her parents' home; it was all an act. She was also afraid, afraid that she would have nowhere to go after being divorced, so she tried her best to maintain her arrogance and deceive everyone.

She had spent all the good things she had plundered from the Chen and Wan families in the past two years, so much so that when she finally went back to her parents' home to borrow grain, she was forced by her sister-in-law to the point that she lost her footing and fell into the water.

Wan Qiqi admitted that the original owner was smart, but she used it in the wrong place and in the wrong way. She should never have forced those who were related to her by blood to sever ties with her.

However, everything has become reality, and Wan Qiqi can't change it now; she can only cope with the future in her own way.

Sun Yin felt conflicted after hearing Wan Qiqi admit these things herself.

He had always thought those things were just rumors, but one by one they turned out to be true. The woman in front of him didn't seem like the kind of person who would do those things.

The people inside stopped talking as soon as Wan Qiqi mentioned it. What could be more shocking than hearing the person in question admit it to themselves?

Tonight, I'm destined to stay awake, as I'll be reminiscing about the conversation Wan Qiqi and Sun Yin had outside.

Chen Yongliang tossed and turned, unable to understand why his sister-in-law had to admit it when she could have simply denied it and kept it a secret. Even when she noticed a group of people eavesdropping at the door while she was speaking, she didn't stop them.

This doubt tormented him all night, and he even thought about it in his dreams.

Wan Qiqi, however, was the one who slept the best among everyone.

She went to bed early and got up early, and instead of going to the medicine shed, she followed Lin Zhaodi to the kitchen to help with washing clothes.

She didn't refute the rumors; she remained indifferent, as if nothing concerned her.

Even so, people still come to her.

"Wan Qiqi, is that you?!"

Two patched trouser legs stopped in front of Wan Qiqi. She stopped what she was doing, raised her head, and stared at the person in front of her.

His face was covered, leaving only his eyes visible, but the hatred in his eyes was very obvious.

Seeing the situation, Lin Zhaodi hurriedly stood up and pulled Wan Qiqi back. They had only taken two steps when the people around them surrounded them, trapping them with nowhere to escape.

Wan Qiqi felt Lin Zhaodi's hand trembling as she gripped it. She gently patted the back of Lin Zhaodi's hand, pulled her hand away from Lin Zhaodi's grasp, and took two steps forward. "Yes, I am Wan Qiqi."

The man sneered, "It's good that you dare to admit it."

"Why wouldn't I dare admit it?" Wan Qiqi stopped in front of the man and asked calmly, "Li Fugui, tell me! What do you want by spreading rumors that I harmed Jixiang?"

Rumors are not scary; what's scary are the details in the rumors, the minutiae that outsiders can never know.

The only person in Guanshi Village who knew clearly about the Wan family's affairs and had a grudge against her was this man—Wan Tingsheng's brother-in-law!

"Heh, what do I want?" Li Fugui sneered, approaching Wan Qiqi step by step. "I can do whatever I want? I want Jixiang's legs to be healthy, is that possible?"

Facing his approach, Wan Qiqi did not back down, her eyes calmly fixed on him. "No, so what do you want?"

She knew that Li Fugui was behind everything, trying to avenge his nephew, but what was the point of such revenge? Besides, the real Wan Qiqi had already died in that accidental drowning. In a way, Wan Qiqi's sister-in-law had already gotten her revenge!

"What right do you have to enjoy that reputation? Do you think your reputation will improve just because you helped treat the plague? Don't even think about it. I'm going to expose your true colors in front of everyone!" Li Fugui hated the woman's calmness, which made him feel that his aura was being suppressed by her.

"Don't you just want everyone to know that I caused Jixiang's disability?" Wan Qiqi glanced at the people who had gathered around and chuckled softly. "I admit that I was bewitched and took my sister-in-law's things. Jixiang found out and caused him to fall and become lame."

"Wan Qiqi!" Li Fugui, seeing her so self-righteous, wanted nothing more than to strangle her. "Don't you feel even a little bit of remorse? You vicious woman!"

Wan Qiqi gave him a cold look. "You've already said I'm a poisonous woman. I apologize and I'll make amends. Do you think you'll accept that?"

What's the point of your apology and making amends?

"That's it! Since you don't have it, what's the point of you doing this? Are you just trying to embarrass me?" Wan Qiqi took two steps back. "Now that you've done it, are you satisfied?"

Li Fugui anticipated that compared to him, Wan Qiqi would lose her mind, be despised by everyone, and be arrested, but the reality was that he was being driven crazy by this woman.

He didn't know where this woman got the courage to admit it, speaking so casually as if she hadn't done it.

However, the truth is that this was not what Wan Qiqi did, and she is naturally open about it.

Wan Qiqi looked up at the sunset on the horizon and said calmly, "What happened before was my fault, but regarding the plague, I never did it for fame, but for my family."

"Family? How dare you talk about family? Don't you know how you treat your own family?"
