Chapter 64 Be Yourself
The family was harmonious, but Lin Zhaodi felt even more lonely. She couldn't fit into the environment and even felt that she was superfluous no matter where she was.
Even at home, she acts the same way, as if she doesn't belong to that family, and only her younger brother and parents are considered family.
Wan Qiqi was preoccupied with the two little ones and couldn't spare any attention for Lin Zhaodi. All she could think about was how to coax these two troublesome little devils to sleep.
Li Chongniang glanced at Lin Zhaodi and said in a bad tone, "Sister-in-law, do you know that the Lin family has brought her back?" She remembered that the Lin family was very averse to having any dealings with them, and Lin Dazhuang had been beaten up a lot for it.
In reality, Lin Dazhuang always got scolded, while Lin Zhaodi was always the one who got beaten, for being accused of not taking good care of her younger brother.
As soon as Li Chongniang finished speaking, a knock was heard at the courtyard gate.
Lin Zhaodi's heart pounded with each knock on the door, and she bit her lower lip tightly.
If her father knew she was in the Lin family, she was doomed!
Wan Qiqi didn't know anything about the Lin family, but she could tell that the Lin family didn't care about Lin Zhaodi, but they cared a lot about Lin Dazhuang.
She handed An'an, whom she was holding, to Chen Yongnian, got up to open the door, and Chen Yongliang followed closely behind.
"Who is it? They're already asleep!" Wan Qiqi leaned against the door, not opening it.
"Sister-in-law Chen, it's me, Lin Dazhuang!" Lin Dazhuang lowered his voice, looking around furtively. "Is my third sister with you?"
While Wan Qiqi was still pondering Lin Dazhuang's words, Chen Yongliang had already opened the door, let Lin Dazhuang in, and then locked the door.
Lin Zhaodi stood at the entrance of the main room, her eyes meeting Lin Dazhuang's.
"Dazhuang..." Chen Yongliang had just called out when Wan Qiqi tugged at him, stopping him in his tracks.
"Let them talk, let's go inside." Wan Qiqi knew that Lin Dazhuang hadn't come to catch up with Chen Yongliang, but definitely for Lin Zhaodi.
Moreover, she guessed that the Lin family would be coming soon.
As she passed by Lin Zhaodi, she whispered, "If you need any help, just call me anytime."
Lin Zhaodi paused for a moment, nodded, and walked out.
There were no lights outside, and only by the light emanating from the door could one make out where the people were standing in the yard, and vaguely make out familiar silhouettes.
In late autumn, the night wind was icy cold.
Lin Zhaodi was dressed in thin clothes and stood in the middle of the courtyard, shivering slightly. But what trembled even more was her heart.
"Sister, why don't you leave the Lin family!" Lin Dazhuang's voice and body were trembling, perhaps from the cold.
Lin Zhaodi was stunned for a moment, looking somewhat bewildered. She didn't understand what her brother meant by "leaving".
As she looked up, she saw Lin Dazhuang's dark eyes glistening with tears that slowly streamed down his face.
"You..." She opened her mouth, but didn't know what to say.
Lin Dazhuang lowered his head and choked out, "Sister, why did you come back?"
Lin Zhaodi scoffed, "If I don't come back, where will I go?"
"You can go anywhere, why come back?" Lin Dazhuang pouted. "You know perfectly well that once you come back, you won't be able to do anything for yourself. Why don't you run away? If you leave here, you can live your own life!"
"Dazhuang, you're thinking too simply!" Lin Zhaodi chuckled twice, feeling that her younger brother was too naive!
Leaving might just mean another prison. What can she do in the face of a new and unfamiliar environment?
Although she was always in pain and exhausted in this family, her parents always prioritized their younger brother no matter what they did.
However, this younger brother treated her very well.
After she was beaten, her younger brother would steal medicine to apply to her wounds; when she was hungry, he would secretly hide food for her; when she was sad, he would come to cheer her up...
Therefore, she has always been willing to make sacrifices for her younger brother.
However, being proactive and being passive are different things; being willing and being forced by her parents are two completely different things.
Lin Dazhuang stepped forward and said, "Sister, you'd better run! Father knows you're at the Lin family and is planning to come and arrest you, but Mother is stopping him!"
Lin Zhaodi shook her head. "I'm not going anywhere. Let's go home!"
"sister……"
"It's alright." Lin Zhaodi turned to look at Wan Qiqi at the door and smiled gently. "We both know what the Chen family is like. Dad forbids you from associating with the third son of the Chen family, but you still secretly play with him, don't you? I believe that sooner or later, we can all be alright..." just like Sister Wan!
Lin Dazhuang said no more and lowered his head.
“Go back and talk to your family properly. If saying bad things about me will save you from getting beaten, then go ahead and say it.” Wan Qiqi didn’t get involved in other people’s family affairs and respected Lin Zhaodi’s choice.
"No way... Sister Wan, you're not bad at all. I want to be like you in the future." Li Zhaodi stared at Wan Qiqi, feeling that she was radiating light.
Wan Qiqi smiled and said, "I'm a bad woman. If you're like me, you'll be scolded by the villagers too!"
"Be yourself, let others talk, and don't live to please others. Isn't that what you taught me?"
Wan Qiqi raised an eyebrow, said nothing, smiled faintly, and watched the two siblings leave the courtyard.
After Chen Yongliang locked the courtyard gate, he looked at Wan Qiqi with some doubt in his eyes, "Sister-in-law, when did you teach her these things?"
Wan Qiqi looked helplessly at Chen Yongliang, tapped him on the forehead, and turned back to the main room.
Chen Yongliang, rubbing his sore head, frowned as he followed her inside, wondering what he had said wrong that made his sister-in-law want to hit him.
After Chen Yongnian coaxed Pingping and An'an to sleep and sent them back to their room, Chen Yongnian returned to the main room and sat down.
The family sat around the main room, and Mrs. Wang smiled faintly, "It's good that you're back safe and sound!"
