Chapter 66 Bamboo Orange
The higher you go, the fewer the bushes become, the denser the trees become, and a thick layer of dead leaves accumulates on the ground.
With each step, you could hear the leaves being crushed underfoot.
However, the three of them did not stop there, but continued to walk uphill.
Chen Yongnian only stopped when he saw pine needles covering the ground.
Seeing his elder brother stop, Chen Yongxing didn't want to move another step. He collapsed to the ground, panting heavily, unwilling to move even a finger.
Because Wan Qiqi was a bit of a germaphobe, she insisted on finding a stone, rubbed it a few times as a gesture, and then sat down.
He picked up the water bag and drank the water quickly.
She felt that she must have been out of her mind to decide to go up the mountain with a mule!
In high school, she felt exhausted after running 3,000 meters, but compared to now, she thinks that's nothing.
It's hard to imagine that I would feel as hot as a dog in late autumn.
Just as she was about to complain about the sweltering weather, a cool breeze blew by, extinguishing the raging fire that was about to ignite in her heart.
A moment later, she suddenly realized something was wrong. Where was the wind coming from in the dense forest?
The wind was still blowing directly in her face!
Turning around, she saw Chen Yongnian standing behind her, covered in sweat, holding a large leaf and fanning her repeatedly.
When Chen Yongnian saw her turn around, he grinned but didn't say anything.
Wan Qiqi really wanted to ask: Are you stupid? You're sweating buckets and don't care, what if you get heatstroke?
She sighed inwardly, moved aside, and patted the empty stone.
Chen Yongnian finally understood what she meant and sat down in the open space, but Ye Zi continued to fan Wan Qiqi, ignoring her own profuse sweating.
Wan Qiqi pointed to the leaves again, "Switch your hand and fan yourself, I'll have a breeze too."
Chen Yongnian did as instructed, but the wind did not diminish, and he fanned even more vigorously.
Wan Qiqi didn't want to care anymore. He could do whatever he wanted; she couldn't control this blockhead!
Chen Yongxing couldn't bear to watch! When his elder brother saw his sister-in-law, his eyes wouldn't even blink; he was completely smitten.
Although his sister-in-law used to ask his brother to fan her, she seemed different now, but he couldn't quite put his finger on why.
Once the sweat had mostly dried, Chen Yongnian stood up and dragged Chen Yongxing, who was still on the ground, to his feet. "Get to work!"
"Brother, can you rest a little longer? I haven't recovered yet," Chen Yongxing pleaded.
Chen Yongnian said righteously and sternly, "No, finish it as soon as possible and go back sooner."
"..." Chen Yongxing complained, "My brother didn't say that on the way. He said we could rest when we arrived."
He looked up and met Chen Yongnian's gaze. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw his sister-in-law tilting her head and raising her eyebrows at him. He knew that if he argued back, his sister-in-law would think she would speak up for his brother.
"Okay, let's get to work..." He couldn't out-argue two people, especially since one of them was his sister-in-law!
The two men picked up axes, chose a tree of suitable size, and began to swing them.
Wan Qiqi glanced at it, grabbed the pine cone next to her, and curiously broke it open to see if there were any pine nuts inside.
As she expected, she saw nothing.
After resting enough, she looked around the pine forest, said something to the two people behind her, and then walked down the mountain into the bushes.
She felt that the chances of finding something good were higher in the bushes than in the pine forest.
She hadn't gone far when her gaze was drawn to a familiar tree.
Only when she got closer did she realize that it really was a pomelo, a wild pomelo!
However, the system did not issue any notification proving that this item could not be sold in the mall, so she could only take it home to eat herself.
Although she was a little disappointed, she was still happy to have found new fruit, since she could take it back to appease the children.
Before long, she knocked the wild pomelos off the tree and put them in her basket.
The pomelo was smaller than the ones sold in the market today, and its color was greener. More importantly, it looked really ugly, making it seem unappetizing at first glance.
When Wan Qiqi lived at her grandmother's house, her grandmother once gave her this kind of small pomelo to eat. Although it was ugly and small, it tasted different from other pomelos on the market.
Although the basket on her back was heavy, it brought Wan Qiqi a sense of satisfaction.
[Ding! Natural bamboo citrus fruit detected!]
The system notification caught Wan Qiqi off guard. She slipped and fell to the ground with a thud, but before her eyes appeared the fruit marked with a certain color.
The tree grows a little crooked, so you can easily reach the fruit if you stretch out your hand.
Wan Qiqi threw the basket on the ground and reached out to pick all the bamboo tangerines she could. A few slipped away from her arms as she reached out.
She glanced at it, watched the fruit roll away, and ignored it.
[Ding! Two catties and one ounce of natural bamboo tangerines, valued at 105 coins. Want to sell?]
Holy crap! Fifty coins a pound?
Wan Qiqi was still somewhat shocked as she watched the bamboo tangerine in her arms disappear and the amount in her wallet change from one tael and four hundred and fifty coins to one tael and five hundred and fifty-five coins.
This thing is so valuable, it surprised her.
Looking at the bamboo tangerine that had rolled into the pile of dead leaves, Wan Qiqi went down and picked it up again.
Then, she stared at the tree full of bright yellow fruit, her eyes shining.
These aren't fruits; they're a tree full of money!
She emptied the pomelos from her basket, climbed the tree, and happily picked bamboo oranges.
On the other side, Chen Yongxing and Chen Yongnian were covered in sweat after cutting down several trees.
Although Chen Yongnian was the strongest of the three brothers, he couldn't hold on any longer and sat down to rest.
After taking a couple of sips of water, Chen Yongxing slumped to the ground, looking like a useless person, but he didn't care.
He gurgled several times, but he didn't want to move. Yet, he was starving.
