She didn't answer Zhao Yi's question. "Zhao Yi, who saved you at the mass grave?"
Zhao Yi's eyes flickered with shock, but it quickly disappeared. "No, just an ordinary citizen."
“Did I say I wasn’t an ordinary person?” Wan Qiqi retorted.
Zhao Yi then realized that he had overreacted.
"And one more thing, do you know anything about the deaths of the Jia family members?" Wan Qiqi's lips curled up, but there was no smile in her eyes.
Zhao Yi originally thought this woman only had a little business acumen, but he didn't expect her to grasp the two most important points in his words.
His hands, resting on his knees, trembled slightly, as if he were afraid of something.
Wu Gousheng immediately understood and asked, "Was the person who saved you Magistrate Fang? Did you kill the Jia family to avenge yourself?"
"No, I didn't!" Zhao Yi stood up excitedly. "I didn't kill anyone!"
"Why would Fang Ziming help you? What secrets of his do you have?" Wan Qiqi asked again.
She didn't give Zhao Yi a chance to catch his breath.
Zhao Yi seemed to know that Wan Qiqi was trying to trick him into talking, so he sat down and kept quiet.
Wan Qiqi didn't press further. Looking out the window at the backyard, she said leisurely, "My people are here. Shall we go down together?"
Zhao Yi shuddered. He wanted to run away, but he found that Wu Gousheng was staring at him and there was no chance of escape.
He looked at Wan Qiqi as if she were his only lifeline, "If I tell you the truth, can you spare my life?"
Wan Qiqi slowly stood up, straightened her sleeves, and said, "But I've almost figured it out! You should bear the consequences of your mistakes, and so should Lord Fang!"
As she spoke, she walked towards the door, preparing to open it to greet the person who was to pick her up.
"No, it's not what you think, Lord Fang is a good person!" Zhao Yi shouted anxiously.
"Whether someone is a good person or not cannot be proven by a few words from you! Since he was wrongly convicted and protected a criminal like you, he is unworthy of his position!"
As Wan Qiqi spoke, her hand was already on the door.
