Chapter 693 The Funeral
"Who's there? Who's at the door?"
Fang Luxue wiped away her tears and quickly stood up from the ground.
She stared at the doorway, her eyes filled with vigilance.
"It's me!"
A familiar voice came from the doorway.
Then, a familiar face appeared in front of Fang Luxue.
Fang Luxue was stunned for a moment, then tears streamed down her face.
She ran over, hugged the person who came in, and cried, "Sister Qi, they are all bad people! They killed my father! They are all bad people!"
Fang Luxue had been crying for an unknown amount of time, and her voice was hoarse.
Wan Qiqi hugged Fang Luxue and gently patted her back, "Okay, okay! Sister Qi knows. If there's a chance, Sister Qi will definitely help you get revenge and make them pay!"
"Yes, we should teach them a lesson!"
Fang Luxue, nestled in Wan Qiqi's arms, cried and whined like a child.
Wan Qiqi patiently coaxed him and led him to sit down by the bed.
She gently stroked Fang Luxue's face with her thumb and whispered, "Don't cry. If you're this sad, aren't you just making those people who want to laugh at you feel good?"
"Yes, we can't let them get cocky!" Fang Luxue said, wiping away her tears.
But she couldn't stop the tears from flowing.
Her cheeks were red from wiping, but the tears hadn't stopped.
Wan Qiqi intervened, "Alright, if you can't stop, don't force yourself. Don't scratch your face!"
Fang Luxue nodded while crying, and asked, "Sister Qi, why won't my mother let me speak, and why did she scold me? It was clearly them who poisoned my father!"
“We all know, but do we have any evidence?” Wan Qiqi asked in a low voice, explaining, “Without evidence, if we continue investigating, we’ll only hurt ourselves!”
“Even if there’s no evidence to investigate, we can always find clues!” Fang Luxue said, her voice choked with emotion.
"Yes, we can investigate clues, but there are also people who can destroy them."
Wan Qiqi pulled Fang Luxue close, letting her lean on her shoulder.
"The enemy has a large number of people and is backed by someone. We can't confront them head-on. Wouldn't it be better for us to show weakness first, wait for an opportunity, and then launch a surprise attack?"
"But... but when will we have to wait?" Fang Luxue asked, feeling wronged.
“There’s a saying that goes, ‘A gentleman takes his revenge even after ten years.’” Wan Qiqi’s eyes flashed with ruthlessness as she finished speaking.
“Ten years? That person ran away long ago!” Fang Luxue said hurriedly.
Wan Qiqi smiled gently, "This is just a metaphor, not a real ten years, but rather a way for us to wait for the right opportunity."
“‘A gentleman takes revenge even after ten years,’ but I am not a gentleman, I am a vengeful little woman!” she thought to herself.
Since Xie Xing has done such a thing, I will not swallow my anger.
Didn't you want to be the county magistrate?
She will do everything she can to prevent Xie Xing from taking this position!
Although Wan Qiqi didn't know what role Tang Qiwen played, she knew that Tang Qiwen's involvement was indispensable in making the decision.
She will never let Tang Qiwen get away with this!
She will remember Fang Ziming's grudge today, and she will make these people pay back tenfold in the future!
Wan Qiqi coaxed Fang Luxue for a long time before she calmed down and put her to bed.
While Fang Luxue was asleep, Wan Qiqi went back to the restaurant and told Zhu Chengye that she wouldn't be coming to the restaurant for a while.
Afterwards, she returned to the Fang family home.
Chen Yongnian has already bought a coffin and arranged for funeral procession.
Perhaps because the government had been in turmoil these past few days, they hadn't bothered the Fang family.
However, many people outside the Fang residence wanted to come in to pay their respects to Fang Ziming, but they were all stopped at the door by Madam Fang.
Inside, the simple mourning hall looked somewhat dilapidated, but it was the best possible arrangement for Fang Ziming.
Although it was said that his merits and demerits canceled each other out, he was actually demoted to a commoner and forbidden from holding a grand funeral.
Two days later, the coffin was lifted and the funeral procession began.
Because in summer, corpses should not be left for too long.
After today, the Fang residence will be taken back by the government.
Therefore, they could only send Fang Ziming up the mountain during this period.
Although Wan Qiqi and Chen Yongnian were not members of the Fang family, they took care of the funeral arrangements from beginning to end.
Both of them were dressed in white mourning clothes, and together with Madam Fang and Fang Luxue, they saw Fang Ziming off.
Funeral music began, and paper money was scattered all the way.
Mrs. Fang and Fang Luxue continued to cry.
Wan Qiqi and Chen Yongnian followed behind, also in a rather bad mood.
Just as the group passed the entrance to Yunhe County, Wan Qiqi was shocked by the scene before her.
The scene of ordinary people attending a funeral, which I had only seen in TV dramas before, appeared before my eyes.
The people stood guard at the city gate without prior arrangement, with white silk ribbons tied around their waists, and knelt down in front of the slowly moving coffin.
"Congratulations, Mr. Fang!"
"May Lord Fang rest in peace!"
They kowtowed and chanted.
There were also some people kneeling on the ground burning paper money.
Wan Qiqi had to admit that Fang Ziming was popular among the people!
Although Fang Ziming's actions sometimes annoyed her, he was genuinely working for the benefit of the people.
Wan Qiqi suddenly felt Chen Yongnian tug at her.
She looked in the direction Chen Yongnian pointed.
I was originally at the very back of the funeral procession.
But before they knew it, a huge crowd had gathered behind them.
Everyone's expression was very solemn.
Wan Qiqi is not someone who cries easily.
But when she saw this scene, she couldn't help but tear up.
“Uncle Fang didn’t actually lose out; the only ones he owes are them…” Wan Qiqi said, looking at Madam Fang and Fang Luxue in front of her.
The road out of the city was blocked by the people, and the funeral procession had stopped.
Seeing the scene before her, Madam Fang felt a lingering resentment towards Fang Ziming dissipate.
