Chapter 70 Wang Shi angers her daughter-in-law

Chapter 70 Wang Shi angers her daughter-in-law

As night fell in late autumn, a cool breeze blew in.

Wan Qiqi never expected that she had arrived here in September and it was already November.

Time flew by, but she still hadn't accomplished anything, and the coming winter was just around the corner.

Back in their own courtyard, Chen Yongnian and Chen Yongxing were busy in the kitchen, while An'an sat under the elm tree, resting her chin on her hand and watching with wide eyes, full of curiosity.

Wan Qiqi glanced at it and looked towards the river.

The sky was dark, and visibility on both sides of the river was poor, making it impossible to see anything in the grass.

She strode into the courtyard and stopped in front of the kitchen. "Mother hasn't come back yet?"

Chen Yongxing shook his head, "He hasn't come back yet."

"Aren't you going to go look for her?" Wan Qiqi was exasperated. Her mother had been missing all afternoon, and it was already dark when she still hadn't returned, yet these people weren't worried at all.

Chen Yongliang comforted her, "Sister-in-law, don't worry. Mother has lived in Lianhua Village for decades. She won't be in any danger."

Wan Qiqi had no idea how Wang could raise her child with such a carefree attitude.

If it were daytime, she wouldn't be worried, but now that it's dark, even if she's familiar with the area, something could easily happen.

Chen Yongnian said, "Wife, don't worry, I'll go find it." He put down his work and dried himself off.

"Yongnian, you've come at the right time! Give me a hand!"

Wan Qiqi looked in the direction of the sound and saw a reed bigger than a person.

Looking down, you can see a pair of straw sandals covered in mud, and the feet are also stained black by the mud.

Wan Qiqi watched as Chen Yongnian took the reeds from Wang Shi's hands, sighed heavily, and said with a solemn expression, "Mother, didn't I tell you that it's enough that you're at home? You don't need to worry about these things."

Her tone was slightly harsh, and she sounded a little angry.

The reeds were moved aside, revealing Wang's frozen smile.

Her lips moved twice, and she slowly lowered her head, her hands clasped tightly together, unable to move.

The others were stunned when they heard Wan Qiqi's words.

The tone of his voice seemed to echo the past, before Wan Qiqi fell into the water.

Although her words were well-intentioned, they sent chills down everyone's spines, and a long-lost fear slowly rose in their hearts. No one dared to speak.

Looking at Wan Qiqi like this, Pingping couldn't help but feel a little scared, afraid that she would scold her again.

Only An'an ran to Wan Qiqi's side, tugged at her sleeve, and called out in a soft, sweet voice, "Mother~"

Wan Qiqi looked down and saw An An looking like she was about to cry, and was stunned for a moment.

Only then did she realize that something was wrong.

She knelt down, gently stroked An'an's nose, and smiled. "Your mother is worried about your grandmother, just like you worry about your mother. She's afraid something might happen to her, so she's a little unhappy, you know?"

An An looked a little confused, then nodded, "I know."

Wan Qiqi laughed when she saw that the girl looked like she understood but didn't quite.

Then, she picked up An'an and said to Chen Yongnian, "Find a place to put her down. Everyone else, wash your hands and get ready to eat."

After everyone was sure that Wan Qiqi wasn't angry, they cautiously began to move around.

Wan Qiqi suddenly turned her head and said to Chen Yongxing, "Fetch a basin of water and wash Mother's feet."

"No need, I can do it myself..."

Wang swallowed the word "okay," avoiding Wan Qiqi's gaze and silently lowering her head.

Wang was more discerning than her three brothers. She knew who treated her well and who didn't. She was aware that her eldest daughter-in-law was angry because she had gone out to cut reeds.

However, everyone was busy, and she couldn't just stand by and watch.

She thought about cutting some reeds to collect the reed fluff, which she would sew into her clothes and quilts, so that this winter would be a little easier and she wouldn't have to suffer so much from the cold.

I remember a couple of years ago, there was a particularly cold winter, and several families froze to death in their homes because they hadn't prepared for the winter.

She couldn't let something like that happen in her own home.

Fifteen minutes later, the oil lamp flickered in the wind, and the family sat in the main room, but no one touched their chopsticks.

This made Wan Qiqi feel as if she had returned to the first meal she ate when she first arrived here.

She sighed inwardly, glanced at Wang Shi, then at the others, picked up her chopsticks, and said, "The weather is getting cold, and the food will get cold if left out for too long. It's not good to eat cold food."

Chen Yongliang added, "Yes, Physician Sun said the same thing."

Although he didn't spend much time at the medicine shop, he remembered everything that Dr. Sun taught him very clearly.

After hearing these two sentences, the family finally started eating, but it wasn't as lively as before; they seemed a bit reserved.

Wan Qiqi took a few bites, then felt strangely uncomfortable and said, "Mother, you've worked so hard all these years. Now that your sons are all grown up, only Yongliang hasn't gotten married yet. It's time for you to enjoy your retirement! Leave the winter arrangements to us, don't worry."

Upon hearing this, Chen Yongnian replied, "Yes, my wife is right."

Chen Yongxing added, "I think my sister-in-law is right. You can enjoy your retirement at home and leave everything else to us."

Upon hearing this, Wang retorted to Chen Yongxing, "If you were as diligent as your elder brother, I wouldn't worry so much!"

Chen Yongxing pursed his lips, feeling embarrassed at being exposed, and then said, "Mother, don't worry, I will definitely work hard and not let you worry. Today I even went up the mountain with my older brother to cut down trees!"

Wan Qiqi and Chen Yongnian didn't expose him; he was slacking off half the time.

However, for someone who is always lazy, being able to spend half the time working is already an improvement!

Chen Yongliang added, "Mother, with my sister-in-law here with us, you don't need to worry about anything. You can just stay home and enjoy your life!"

Wang looked at Chen Yongliang and sighed softly.
