Chapter 709 Pang Zhaosheng
"Brother Chen, sister-in-law!"
Pang Zhao clasped his hands in greeting to Chen Yongnian and Wan Qiqi, his face beaming with a bright smile.
"Mr. Pang, please come in!"
Chen Yongnian took over as the host of the restaurant from Wan Qiqi and invited Pang Zhao inside.
Wan Qiqi didn't mind this.
Having someone help you, letting you slack off and be a mere accompaniment, eating and drinking—what's wrong with that?
Pang Zhao smiled and followed Chen Yongnian inside, saying, "Perfect timing, I also have something to say to you!"
"Alright, Mr. Pang, please come upstairs. Let's talk as we go." Chen Yongnian said, leading Pang Zhao downstairs.
After guiding the other person a few steps, he turned back to look at Wan Qiqi.
Wan Qiqi waved her hand, telling Chen Yongnian to go first, and that she would make some arrangements downstairs and then come up.
She ordered the dishes first, then looked around the wine cabinet for a while, and finally chose a jar of strong liquor that was most suitable for a warrior.
It was a bit too strong for her, but for someone like Pang Zhao who practiced martial arts, drinking this kind of wine was the most enjoyable.
Private room on the third floor.
Chen Yongnian led Pang Zhao to sit down, poured him tea, and said, "Lord Pang, I heard that you will be leaving Yunhe County soon?"
Pang Zhao was taken aback, then nodded.
His smile faded slightly. "That's right, the transfer order has been issued. After handing over my work, I'll be leaving Yunhe County!"
Despite the promotion of the tone, Pang Zhao didn't seem very happy.
On the contrary, there was a hint of worry in his eyes.
Upon seeing this, Chen Yongnian asked, "What are your concerns, sir?"
He had just asked that question when the door to the private room opened.
Wan Qiqi walked in carrying the wine.
Seeing that the two people inside were looking at him with slightly strange expressions, he smiled faintly and said, "Have I disturbed you two?"
"No, there's nothing to hide from you!" Pang Zhao said, his gaze fixed on the wine in Wan Qiqi's hand.
Wan Qiqi immediately understood, placed the bowl on the table, and lifted the wine jar. "I heard Yongnian mention that Pang Da used to fight on the battlefield, so he probably doesn't like refined people using wine cups. I took the liberty of changing it to a large bowl."
She placed a full bowl of wine in front of Pang Zhao.
Pang Zhao laughed heartily, "Yes, sister-in-law is indeed clever, this is exactly what I like."
Having said that, he downed the wine in his bowl in one gulp and exclaimed with a laugh, "Good wine! Good wine!"
Wan Qiqi smiled faintly, "I'm glad you like it, Mr. Pang." As she spoke, she poured Pang Zhao another bowl.
In contrast, Chen Yongnian looked at the bowl in front of Wan Qiqi, and then at the bowl in front of himself.
"My wife is trying to get me drunk with just one bowl!" he thought to himself.
Before Chen Yongnian could speak, he saw Wan Qiqi clink bowls with Pang Zhao and drink the wine in their bowls, leaving him dumbfounded.
He knew his wife could drink, but he had never seen her drink like this.
"Hahaha... I never expected my sister-in-law to be such a bold and generous person!" Pang Zhao's smile grew even brighter.
"My husband and I can only drink a bowl or two with Brother Pang!" Wan Qiqi said with a smile.
Just then, Erpang came over carrying the dishes.
Five or six dishes, all of which are good accompaniments to drinks.
Pang Zhao looked at the dishes on the table, smiled and shook his head, "I never thought I could have such a wonderful time before leaving Yunhe County."
Wan Qiqi gestured for Erpang to step back, then smiled and raised her bowl, saying, "From now on, Brother Pang will definitely be able to enjoy himself even more!"
“Yes, Mr. Pang will surely rise to a higher position in the future!” Chen Yongnian also raised his bowl.
Pang Zhao looked at the couple, his mouth agape in a wide grin.
He raised his bowl and said, "No, not just me, I believe Brother Chen is the same!"
The three raised their bowls and drank the wine together.
Chen Yongnian hadn't even finished half of his drink when Pang Zhao stopped him, saying, "Brother, I know your alcohol tolerance. It's okay if you don't finish it!"
Chen Yongnian smiled, did not refuse Pang Zhao's kindness, and put down the wine he had not finished drinking.
He had to keep an eye on Wan Qiqi and make sure she didn't get too drunk!
Wan Qiqi met Chen Yongnian's gaze and shrugged helplessly.
"Brother, this promotion is all thanks to my wife!" Pang Zhao sighed. "If it weren't for her connection with Lord Wan, I probably wouldn't have gotten this promotion..."
Pang Zhao, perhaps due to the alcohol, began to confide in Wan Qiqi and Chen Yongnian about his past.
He was just a villager from a small mountain village who was forced to serve in the army due to the war, and he was gone for five years.
Fortunately, he met a good captain, which allowed him to survive the war and learn a lot of skills.
Unfortunately, when the war ended, his brothers and captain had all left, leaving him all alone.
Because of his outstanding performance in the war, there happened to be a vacancy in Yunhe County, so he was transferred to Yunhe County to serve as the county lieutenant.
For several years since then, he has not returned to his hometown, and his promotion seems a long way off.
He never imagined that he would be the first person to be promoted in this reorganization of Yunhe County.
If there's one change over the years, it might be starting with helping Wan Qiqi.
Therefore, he felt that his promotion was entirely due to Wan Qiqi's help.
Wan Qiqi shook her head upon hearing Pang Zhao's words, "Brother Pang, your promotion is entirely due to your own abilities. If you were idle and pleasure-seeking, why would the court have chosen you?"
Pang Zhao found her words very agreeable.
He raised his glass and said, "My sister-in-law has high aspirations. I believe that in the future, I will see her rise to higher positions and realize her ambitions."
Wan Qiqi smiled, glanced at the wine bowl in front of her, and said, "Brother Pang, I won't drink from this bowl. If I drink any more, I'm afraid I'll get drunk!"
Pang Zhao didn't mind and laughed as he drank his wine.
Conversations in the private room were mostly filled with laughter and joy, and sometimes included discussions about ideals and distant dreams.
Before long, Pang Zhao was already slightly drunk.
His face flushed red, and he pulled Chen Yongnian aside, saying, "Brother Chen, let me tell you something! When I received the promotion document, I recommended you to the court to be the next county magistrate. This Yunhe County... needs someone to stand up to that Xie fellow!"
