Chapter 737 Seeking Help on the Street

Chapter 737 Seeking Help on the Street

"You bitch, you dare to run away? I'll beat you to death!"

A young man was whipping a frail woman on the ground.

The frail woman huddled up, her hands covering her head, her body trembling uncontrollably, and she didn't say a word.

A large crowd of people gathered around, watching from a distance but not daring to approach.

Occasionally one or two would stand up, but they were all scolded away by the young man.

Wan Qiqi knew that people of lowly status in ancient times could not hold their heads high, but she never expected that there would be people who would commit violence on the streets.

She was about to go closer to see what was going on.

Feng Zhi suddenly tugged at her hem and shook his head at her.

Wan Qiqi understood Feng Zhi's meaning and had no intention of stepping forward.

If this had happened in the past, I would have rushed forward without hesitation to argue with the person.

But at this moment, she knew that some things couldn't be solved just by helping.

She can save one person, but she cannot save all the suffering lowly people in the world.

Moreover, the people you save may not all be good people!

Wan Qiqi glanced over and just then noticed the person curled up on the ground staring at her with wide eyes.

Upon meeting her own eyes, the frail woman abruptly looked away and continued wailing.

Wan Qiqi sneered and led her people past the scene of the disturbance without stopping for a moment.

She had only taken two steps when a person suddenly rushed out from the crowd and headed straight for her.

Feng Zhi and Nan Xing immediately stood in front of Wan Qiqi.

Feng Zhi shoved the person who rushed out aside and coldly shouted, "Get out of the way!"

The person who was pushed fell to the ground, looking somewhat bewildered.

Meanwhile, the young man was also bewildered.

The young man was stunned for a moment before walking over, raising his whip, and shouting, "I'll beat you to death, you blind fool! You've offended an important person, and you can't even pay for it with your life!"

"Crack~ Crack~" The sound of the whip fell on the frail woman who had fallen, and another wail followed.

"If you want to discipline someone, take them home. What kind of behavior is that in public?"

Wan Qiqi pushed Feng Zhi and Nan Xing aside, tilting her head to look at the two who were hitting and being hit.

The young man smiled and bowed to Wan Qiqi, "I'm sorry, I was careless and my servant offended you, Madam!"

"You're talking nonsense!" the thin woman suddenly shouted.

She knelt on the ground and walked all the way to Wan Qiqi on her knees. She reached out to grab Wan Qiqi's skirt, but grabbed nothing.

He could only support himself on the ground and kowtow to Wan Qiqi, "Madam, I was looking for a good family on the street to help me bury my father, but this man took a liking to me, grabbed me without saying a word, and made me his concubine. He even dumped my father's body in a mass grave..."

As the frail woman finished speaking, tears streamed down her face, her tear-streaked appearance evoking immense pity from onlookers.

"Is that really true?" Wan Qiqi stared at the young man, her expression serious.

"You little bitch, stop talking nonsense!" The young man's eyes were fierce as he kicked the woman to the ground.

He hurriedly explained, "Madam, you're talking nonsense about this woman. I kindly paid for her father's funeral and even brought her back to the manor, but she stole money from my house and tried to run away! Don't be fooled by her; she's just a little liar!"

"No, madam, you must believe me..." The frail woman fell to the ground, tears streaming down her face.

Wan Qiqi listened with a cold face, without saying a word.

Suddenly, the onlookers spoke up.

"This woman is so pitiful. Look at the wounds on her body, some deep and some shallow. She's been beaten more than once!"

"Oh dear, it's heartbreaking to see. I wonder how her father's body is!"

"I don't think this man is lying; he doesn't seem like a lecherous person."

"This woman is a fraud. I've seen her before; she always pretends to be pitiful."

"Nonsense! That man is the bad guy; he's harassing women everywhere!"

"..."

The discussions continued incessantly, but no one ever mentioned reporting it to the authorities.

Wan Qiqi looked around and said in a deep voice, "Since you can't explain it clearly, let's report it to the authorities and let them handle it."

As she spoke, she gestured to the person beside her to go to the government office.

But before the person could leave, the young man immediately stepped in to stop him.

"Madam, this matter doesn't need to involve the government, does it?" the young man asked.

“Didn’t you say she stole your family’s money? Then report it to the authorities and let them help you get your money back. Wouldn’t that be better?” Wan Qiqi said earnestly.

The young man's expression suddenly stiffened. "No need, I can handle this myself!"

As he spoke, he ordered his men to drag the frail woman away.

The frail woman cried out, "Madam, save me, save me... You're a woman too, you can't just stand by and watch me die..."

A hint of disgust flashed in Wan Qiqi's eyes.

She hates being morally blackmailed by others!

While women should help other women, they don't like being coerced into doing so.

She watched as the frail woman was dragged away.

However, after dragging his feet for a while, the young man slowed down, as if waiting for something.

Wan Qiqi frowned, unable to stop thinking.

Who exactly orchestrated this whole charade, and what are they trying to achieve?

Wan Qiqi hesitated for a moment, then suddenly shouted, "Stop!"

The young man quickly turned around to look at Wan Qiqi, as if he had been waiting for her to call him back.

He feigned impatience and asked, "What is it?"

“How much silver did this woman take from you? I’ll pay it back for her, but you’re not allowed to cause her any more trouble!” Wan Qiqi said.

"Madam, no, this woman has a problem, you can't help her!" Nanxing suddenly stopped her.

A look of astonishment flashed across Wan Qiqi's eyes, but it disappeared in an instant.

She stepped forward and asked, "Tell me! How much silver?"
