Chapter 777 Farewell
A few days later, officials from the capital came to Yunhe County to review the old case.
Ultimately, the Tang family father and son were sentenced to beheading, and Xie Xing was stripped of his official position and sentenced to ten years of exile.
Thus, the truth about Fang Ziming's case was finally revealed.
However, the vacancy in Yunhe County did not lead to the promotion of County Commandant Chen Yongnian; instead, a new official was dispatched to the county.
However, the newly appointed county magistrate is also a diligent and good official who serves the people.
He accomplished several major tasks for Yunhe County shortly after taking office, earning the recognition of the people.
Wan Qiqi and her group returned to Hefeng Town, changed the original Xinglong Restaurant signboard to Wuwei Restaurant, and reopened the restaurant.
Wan Ziyan's return brought his relatives and friends together at Wuweilou Restaurant.
Old friends finally reunite at this moment.
"Congratulations, my dear brother!" Tao Ran raised his glass, his eyes crinkling with laughter.
"Brother Tao, it's been several months since we last met, and you're still as handsome as ever." Wan Ziyan smiled faintly and raised his cup to drink with him.
Seeing this, Tao Ran poured him another cup, saying, "But we agreed that we wouldn't leave until we were drunk, and we can't go back on our word."
"Of course it counts, but you've drunk so much, is your sister-in-law really not going to say anything?"
Wan Ziyan looked at Luo Lan as he spoke.
Luo Lan was chatting with Wan Qiqi when she noticed Wan Ziyan looking at her and asked, "Ziyan, what's wrong?"
"It's nothing, I just noticed that my sister-in-law is getting more and more beautiful!" Wan Ziyan grinned.
Hearing this, Luo Lan was overjoyed and said to Wan Qiqi, "I've noticed that Ziyan's speech has become more and more pleasant since he came back!"
Wan Qiqi nodded in agreement.
Wan Ziyan used to be very proper and disciplined, but now he has become more shrewd and worldly.
She knew that Wan Ziyan needed to learn how to navigate social situations in order to survive better.
"By the way, when is Yongliang and Xiaojing's wedding scheduled? Your brother Tao keeps saying that Xiaojing is annoying and wants to get married as soon as possible."
“We can’t say for sure; we should ask them what they’re planning,” Wan Qiqi replied.
“That’s not how it is. They say marriage is arranged by the father and mother. Although your mother-in-law is his mother, you’re probably the head of the Chen family now. It’s just a matter of your word,” Luo Lan said with a smile.
Wan Qiqi shook her head and denied it, "I do not agree with arranged marriages. I hope that he and Xiaojing can marry freely, and that their future children can also find their own loved ones and choose when to get married."
"Isn't this against the rules?" Luo Lan asked suspiciously.
"Rules are made by people, so what's wrong with that?"
Wan Qiqi patted Luo Lan on the shoulder and continued, "Think about it, if your son doesn't marry the person he loves, will he be happy?"
Luo Lan shook her head.
“What you say makes sense, but it is indeed against the rules. Yongliang and Xiaojing are also in love. Let me go and sound out Xiaojing’s opinion, and then I will tell you.”
As she spoke, she left her original spot and ran towards Tao Jing's direction.
Wan Qiqi could only shake her head helplessly.
She then poured herself a glass of wine, but before she could take a sip, a hand stopped her.
"You've had enough to drink today. You can't drink anymore; it'll harm your health," Chen Yongnian said gently, replacing the wine in front of Wan Qiqi with milk tea.
Wan Qiqi stared at the milk tea, wanting to tell Chen Yongnian that drinking too much of this stuff is bad for you, as it can cause weight gain.
But she still didn't say anything, and instead asked about something else.
"You and my brother have been talking about your relationship for quite a while now, so how did you two get together?"
Seeing Wan Qiqi's persistence, Chen Yongnian sighed and said, "Alright, I'll tell you."
“When I went to Pinghe County to suppress bandits, I noticed something amiss and prepared to investigate further. By chance, I met Lord Fang and used his knowledge from the frontier to annihilate the enemy in one fell swoop.”
"Just as I was about to go back to report, I met my brother. He originally wanted to help me, but he didn't expect that I had already resolved the matter. However, the people behind these people had not yet been eliminated, so he thought of concealing the news and making a move in secret."
"We investigated and uncovered the truth, and were just about to head back when we encountered the Gou Sheng incident. So we decided to wait a little longer and secretly gather evidence against the Tang family..."
Wan Qiqi finally understood. It turned out that many of these were just smokescreens planted by Wan Ziyan and Chen Yongnian to keep the hidden enemies in the dark from figuring out their way.
She then asked, "So it was Fang Bowen who took away Xiaoxue'er and Aunt Rong, and also saved Gousheng?"
"More or less!" Chen Yongnian replied.
"The Fang family is currently homeless in Yunhe County. Fang Bowen is serving as the county magistrate of Sui County. Is he rushing back to Yunhe County to take Aunt Rong and the others away?" Wan Qiqi asked tentatively.
Chen Yongnian nodded, "Yes, that's what he planned to do when he came back."
Wan Qiqi frowned and sighed, "I thought Gou Sheng would finally get married, but it seems they're not meant to be!"
“If Gousheng comes with us in the future, we might even reunite with them in the capital,” Chen Yongnian said with a smile, appearing very optimistic.
Wan Qiqi, however, seemed very worried. "That's true, but Xiaoxue'er is a woman. If she doesn't get married by the time she's of marriageable age, it might cause gossip."
“My wife, I remember you weren’t like this before. You didn’t worry about these things before.”
"Yeah?"
"yes."
"Perhaps it's because they are both people I care about, and I don't want them to miss out and then wait for several years!"
Wan Qiqi answered, her gaze already fixed on the spot where Lu Xue was standing in front of the window.
The changes during this period left Fang Luxue feeling somewhat dazed, as if she were in a dream.
But the presence of her brother's mother made her feel exceptionally real.
The elder brother has returned, but the father will never come back.
This home can never go back to what it used to be.
While Fang Luxue was in a daze, another person was already standing next to her.
A faint aroma of wine wafted over.
Fang Luxue frowned, turned her head to look at the person beside her, and said with dissatisfaction, "Wu Gousheng, you've only just recovered from your injury and you're already drinking? Don't you want to die?"
