Chapter 778 Chinese New Year (Final Chapter)
Several months later.
On Lunar New Year's Eve, the villagers of Lianhua Village were all busy with their own tasks.
Compared to last year, this year can be considered a bumper harvest for them, and they don't need to worry about getting through the winter.
In fact, every household not only had rice to eat, but also meat such as chicken, duck, and fish.
All of this is thanks to Wan Qiqi.
If it weren't for her, the village would still be in the same state, and they would still be starving.
"Aunt Wang, have Qiqi and the others returned?" Aunt Youyi asked.
She was holding a freshly killed chicken in her hand, craning her neck to look around outside the Chen family's courtyard.
Wang Zhi got up from the vegetable garden and said with a smile, "He's not back yet."
She looked up at the sky; the sun was still high in the sky.
She added, "She should be back soon after she finishes dealing with the restaurant business, no rush."
"You're so carefree. It's already New Year's Eve, and you don't even care about them," Aunt Youyi sighed, but her eyes revealed envy.
She held up the chicken in her hand and said, "This chicken was specially requested by my husband. If it weren't for Qiqi, we don't know how we would have survived this year."
"No need for chicken, otherwise Qiqi will say I'm collecting things randomly."
As Wang Zhi spoke, she bent down, picked up a large cabbage, and handed it over the earthen wall to Aunt Youyi.
"These are vegetables we grew ourselves, they're so sweet. Take them home and see if you like them. If you do, I'll ask Qiqi for some seeds so you can grow them yourselves."
Aunt Youyi held the cabbage in her hands and stood there stunned for a long time before she came to her senses.
"No, I can't take your things back before they've been delivered."
Just then, voices came from behind Aunt Youyi.
"It's alright, Aunt Youyi, you can keep it."
Aunt Youyi turned around, saw a beautiful figure, and immediately beamed with joy, "Qiqi, you're back!"
"It's New Year's Eve. Even if you're busy, a little extra time won't make a difference, right?"
Wan Qiqi smiled and replied, picking a pastry wrapped in oil paper from Chen Yongnian's hand.
“Auntie Youyi, these are snacks from the restaurant. Take them back for the children.”
Before Aunt Youyi could react, something else was shoved into her hand.
She was a little depressed.
Not only did they fail to deliver the gift, but they also took two other items from the person.
Seeing this, Wan Qiqi said, "Aunt Youyi, I just passed by the village entrance and it seems your child fell down. Do you want to go back and check on him?"
"Oh? You fell... You're such a worry... Qiqi, I'll head back now, I'll talk to you again tomorrow." Aunt Youyi said and hurriedly left.
Chen Yongnian shook his head helplessly upon seeing this.
Wan Ziyan shook his head and said, "Qiqi, how could you deceive others?"
Although his words were criticizing Wan Qiqi for doing something wrong, his eyes were full of doting affection.
"Oh my, Ziyan, you're here too! Come in, come in..." Wang Zhi said hurriedly.
She quickly came out of the vegetable garden, washed her hands, and went to greet them.
"The last time you came was during the Chinese New Year last year. I thought you weren't coming this year."
"How could I? I promised Qiqi I'd spend the New Year with her, and I won't go back on my word," Wan Ziyan replied with a smile.
He took out a red envelope from his hand and said, "This is a small token of my appreciation. Please accept it."
When Wang Zhi saw what Wan Ziyan was holding, she was stunned for a moment and quickly waved her hand.
"No, how can I take your money?"
"If you don't accept it, I won't be able to stay for the New Year and will have to go back alone!" Wan Ziyan sighed softly.
Wang Zhi was caught in a dilemma.
Wan Qiqi interjected at this moment, "It's alright, Mother, just keep it and find a chance to return it."
Wang Zhi thought about it and realized it was true. She smiled and accepted the gift, saying, "Okay, I'll take it. Come inside and sit down quickly, it's cold outside."
Wan Ziyan smiled and nodded, then looked at Wan Qiqi and said through gritted teeth, "You're such a clever little devil!"
"That's not true. I am the younger sister of Magistrate Wan of Liangzhou."
Wan Qiqi made a face at Wan Ziyan and left with a smile.
With Wan Qiqi, Chen Yongnian, and Wan Ziyan back, the Chen family was finally complete for the New Year.
Some people were preparing New Year's Eve dinner in the kitchen, some were putting up Spring Festival couplets outside, and some children were playing in the yard.
The family was having a great time, and it was quite lively.
As darkness fell, the surroundings did not quiet down; instead, they became even more lively.
Tonight, every household in Lianhua Village is ablaze with lights.
Wan Qiqi drank quite a bit at the dinner table, and Chen Yongnian and Wan Ziyan couldn't stop her.
After Wan Qiqi had enjoyed her drink to the fullest, she summarized everyone's achievements over the past year and then asked everyone to speak about their plans for the year.
Although Chen Yongliang was the youngest among them, he was the most enthusiastic.
"I, I'll go first."
He stood up, raised his hand, and said with a smile, "Next year, I will make Wuweilou's profits double."
But his words made those present shake their heads and show their dissatisfaction.
Chen Yongliang frowned.
"Is there something wrong with what I said?"
"No problem," Wan Qiqi replied, then added, "Isn't your most important task to pass the imperial examination and become a scholar?"
Chen Yongliang hesitated for a moment, then blushed and said, "Sister-in-law, I'm talking about serious matters. Why are you bringing this up?"
"Your most important task next year is to pass the imperial examination and marry the woman you love as soon as possible, otherwise she might run off with someone else," Wan Qiqi said with a smile.
"No, we agreed on that," Chen Yongliang whispered.
Those around him heard this clearly and burst into laughter, causing Chen Yongliang's face to turn completely red.
After a burst of cheers, Chen Yongxing continued to share his thoughts.
“Chen Lizheng said he was getting old and Sanyuan had his own things to do, so he planned to recommend me to the county government next year to take over as the village head of Lianhua Village.”
