Chapter 78 The Man Who Wanted to Steal Pork
"Hey, Yongxing, you went to town again! You even bought new cloth! It must have cost you a lot of money!"
Wan Qiqi turned around with Chen Yongxing and saw a middle-aged woman standing behind them with a fawning expression.
"Second Aunt," Chen Yongxing called out, a smile spreading across his face. "Isn't it getting closer to winter? I've made some money in business and was thinking of getting some new clothes made."
Wan Qiqi looked at the person in front of her and recognized her as Zhang Ershen, Chen Ergou's mother, who was also the daughter-in-law of the Chen family and the sister-in-law of her mother-in-law, Wang Shi.
Aunt Zhang smiled at Chen Yongxing, walked over and pushed Wan Qiqi aside, and walked alongside Chen Yongxing. "Oh my, Yongxing can even do business now!"
She glanced at the pork in the bucket, her eyes lighting up.
Good heavens! She's been eating coarse food and wild vegetables every day with Old Mrs. Chen, and her rice porridge is so thin you can only see a few grains of rice in it, while her sister-in-law's family has actually managed to buy pork!
They're both daughters-in-law of the Chen family, but why is there such a big difference between them?
"It must be heavy! Do you want me to help you carry it?" Although Aunt Zhang was asking, she didn't wait for Chen Yongxing's reply and reached out to take the meat from the bucket.
Wan Qiqi saw through her thoughts and immediately followed suit, lightly bumping into her and pushing her away from Chen Yongxing.
Aunt Zhang was so focused on the pork that she didn't notice Wan Qiqi's movements. Just as she was about to touch the pork, she was bumped into and stumbled a few steps, nearly falling over a stone.
Turning around, Wan Qiqi was pouting and looking at her innocently. "Sigh, it's my fault. I bumped into Auntie. Are you alright, Auntie? Should I take you to Uncle Sun's place to see him?"
Aunt Zhang was speechless after Wan Qiqi choked her, and she didn't even bother to pretend anymore. She walked over aggressively and scolded, "Wan Qiqi, didn't anyone teach you manners? I'm your elder, how dare you bump into me?"
Wan Qiqi looked at her with a half-smile, "Second Aunt, don't you know best whether I have manners or not?"
She remembered that her bad relationship with the Chen family was all thanks to this second aunt. She would talk badly about Old Mrs. Chen whenever she had a chance, and not only that, she also talked badly about Wang behind her back.
Wan Qiqi had no liking for someone who was all smiles in public but always gossiped behind people's backs.
Aunt Zhang was prepared; if Wan Qiqi insulted her, she would immediately call for help to make Wan Qiqi suffer the consequences.
But she didn't expect the other person to ask her a question in return, and with such a seductive and flirtatious manner that she found disgusting.
She frowned and glanced at Wan Qiqi. "I'm talking to Yongxing, why are you interrupting!"
Chen Yongxing knew that his sister-in-law wouldn't act like this for no reason. He had also seen Zhang Ershen's earlier actions, trying to take the meat he had bought for his wife to nourish her body. His face immediately darkened. "Second Aunt, Chongniang is still waiting for me at home. I can't talk to you anymore."
Aunt Zhang saw the meat she was about to get slip away and immediately went to chase after it, but Wan Qiqi stopped her and angrily said, "Wan Qiqi, what's wrong with you!"
Wan Qiqi didn't take it seriously and continued to block Chen Yongxing until he entered the yard. Only then did she let go and whisper, "Second Aunt wants the pork we bought?"
Aunt Zhang, having been exposed, quickly let go and turned her face away. "What nonsense are you talking about? I just wanted to help him out." Her eyes darted around, and she pointed at Wan Qiqi, saying, "You, as the eldest sister-in-law, let your younger brother carry everything, while you carry an empty basket. How can you be so heartless!"
Wan Qiqi laughed out loud. Why does this second aunt seem to be missing a screw?
"What are you laughing at? Did I say something wrong?" Aunt Zhang pointed at Wan Qiqi and listed all the things she had done in the past. "Not only are you disrespectful to your mother-in-law, but you also make her do this and that all the time. You even made Chongniang, who is pregnant, work in the fields. You beat and scold the two children, and you always flirt with the men in the village. Have you no shame!"
She said something that pushed Wan Qiqi back.
Wan Qiqi listened quietly, glancing out of the corner of her eye at Chen Yongnian and Wang Shi who had rushed over. She smiled faintly, "Second Aunt, I respect you as my elder, so I won't hold it against you. I was originally planning to share some good things with you..."
Aunt Zhang immediately interrupted, "Don't put on an act in front of me. Do you think I don't know what you're like? Unfilial and unclean, you should be drowned in a pig cage!"
"Let's see who dares!" Chen Yongnian shouted, leaving Aunt Zhang stunned on the spot.
Wang walked over and stopped beside Aunt Zhang. "Sister-in-law, I separated from the Chen family a long time ago. How I manage my daughter-in-law is my business. I know in my heart whether she is filial or not."
Seeing that both women were siding with Wan Qiqi, Aunt Zhang became anxious, "Sister-in-law, have you been bewitched by this poisonous woman? Have you forgotten how she treated you?"
Wang retorted seriously, "How she treated me, do you know better than I do?"
"I...I..." Aunt Zhang never expected that Wang Shi, who was usually so easy to talk to, could be so tough. "Sister-in-law! I'm doing this for your own good. Now that Yongxing has made money in business, don't let this vicious woman take it away!"
Wan Qiqi couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Second Aunt, you probably haven't figured out the situation."
Aunt Zhang said defiantly, "How could I not understand the situation? I saw it all! It was you, you wicked woman, who had been eyeing the Chen family's money." She spotted Wan Qiqi's money pouch, pointed at her, and shouted, "Look at her! Didn't she pocket the money?"
Chen Yongnian couldn't listen anymore. He had always thought his second aunt was a good person and often advised his wife not to argue with her. Now he realized that he might have been wrong!
Perhaps from the very beginning, it was Second Aunt who wanted to cause trouble for Madam.
"Second Aunt, it was my wife's idea to start this business. She made all the things she sells herself, and she even paid for Yang to customize the tools for the stall. Is there a problem with her keeping this money?"
