Chapter 95 Decadent Ideology

Chapter 95 Decadent Ideology

Then, the courtyard erupted in an uproar.

"I never imagined Lin Youtian was this kind of person. His wife and daughter are human beings too, how could he do such a thing?"

"It's just that Madam Qian was unlucky to have given birth to a son. If she had given birth to a son from the beginning, none of this would have happened."

"Giving birth is a woman's job, it's just that her womb is not cooperating."

"Who says otherwise? Lin Youtian is very good to his son!"

Wan Qiqi was surprised that at this point, these people were actually talking about the Qian family instead of Lin Youtian.

In modern times, Lin Youtian's behavior would have been perfectly justifiable to call the police and have him arrested and imprisoned.

But in this era, are there laws that protect women?

Wan Qiqi suddenly realized how different her thinking was from that of ancient times.

If the people she encounters are even more corrupt in their thinking, she will be regarded as an outcast of this era!

Cao's noise was frequent and endless. Chen Lizheng never expected that a theft would escalate to this point, and he was even more troubled!

Without realizing it, his gaze fell on Wan Qiqi, as if this person would give him a special way of handling things.

Wan Qiqi and Chen Lizheng locked eyes.

Then, she turned her face away and walked to Chen Yongnian's side without saying a word.

Chen Lizheng was somewhat disappointed after reading it, feeling that Wan Qiqi shouldn't have acted this way.

But Wan was just a woman, so why would he place his hopes on her?

After a while, only the villagers' chatter filled the courtyard; no one confronted them anymore.

"Chen Lizheng." Lin Dazhuang suddenly knelt down, his eyes flashing, and choked out, "I beg Chen Lizheng to make the decision and let my parents get a divorce."

In ancient times, it was only husbands who divorced their wives; there was never a story of a son asking his parents to divorce.

His words immediately drew curses from many villagers.

"Lin Dazhuang, how could you do this? This is unfilial!"

"What kind of son asks his father to divorce him? You've lost your mind!"

"Dazhuang, you need to think this through. Those are your father and your mother."

Lin Dazhuang gave a bitter laugh, "So what? My mother is beaten every day, and my sister worries about being sold every day. What use is a father like that to me?"

His words divided the people present into two factions, each sticking to their own version of events, making the courtyard more chaotic than a vegetable market.

Chen Lizheng's face grew increasingly grim, and he roared, "Alright, alright! Are you all so free? Go back!"

Silence followed the roar.

Afterwards, the onlookers gradually dispersed, leaving only the Lin and Chen families behind.

Chen Lizheng sighed heavily, feeling frustrated.

"You unfilial son, do you know what you're saying?" Lin Youtian got up from the ground and started punching and kicking Lin Dazhuang, who was kneeling on the ground.

"Lin Youtian, that's enough!" Chen Lizheng's roar echoed through the courtyard. He couldn't hide his anger and pointed at Lin Youtian, saying, "Today's events all started because of you. And now you're still making a move here. Do you even respect me, the village head?"

Lin Youtian also knelt down, "Chen Lizheng, I was just a little greedy, that's all!"

"Nothing else?" Chen Yongxing sneered. "Do you know that if the theft charge is proven, my eldest brother and third brother will be arrested and imprisoned? Is this what you mean by being greedy?"

"I just want more money. Once I have the money, I won't say anything more." Lin Youtian still looked self-righteous. "If this woman hadn't ruined things for me, how could things have turned out like this?"

He pointed at Wan Qiqi, his face contorted with rage, "This wicked woman has done so many terrible things, yet you keep her alive. I merely disciplined my children, and you demand that I divorce my wife? What do you mean by this?"

"The matter of Chen Wanshi is for the magistrate to decide; you have no right to interfere." Chen Lizheng gave him a cold glare. "As for your matter, you will come with me to the county office tomorrow; the magistrate will decide there as well!"

Even though Lin Youtian was unwilling, he was still taken away and locked up by the people arranged by Chen Lizheng. The other three members of the Lin family went home and went to the county government together the next day.

The farce finally came to an end.

Wan Qiqi looked at the mule at the door and called for the three members of the Lin family to stop.

Chen Lizheng glanced back, said nothing, and left with Lin Youtian.

"Aunt Qian, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to reveal anything about your family today." Wan Qiqi said dejectedly.

The whispers from the courtyard still echoed in her ears. She couldn't understand why there was so much malice towards women in this era.

Even the person who said these things was a woman!

She hoped that Aunt Qian could eventually divorce Lin Youtian and live her own life from then on.

However, after the divorce, if Qian returns to her parents' home, she will only be gossiped about. But she can't stay in Lianhua Village any longer. So what should she do?

If Lin Zhaodi and Lin Dazhuang end up with Lin Youtian, things will only get more difficult than before, but they can't possibly go with the Qian family...

Wan Qiqi then realized how unkind divorce was to women in ancient times.

A smile appeared on Qian's lips as she slowly opened her swollen eyes. "Chen Wanshi, I was wrong in the past. I shouldn't have been prejudiced against you. If I'm no longer in this village, I hope you can lend me a hand."

She glanced at the mule and said, "I bought this mule with my dowry to work. If you want it, I'll sell it to you for 300 coins."

I'll buy a mule for 300 coins!

Wan Qiqi's pupils dilated involuntarily.

A mule on the market would cost at least one or two taels of silver, but she sold it for 300 coins?

Then, Wan Qiqi looked at Lin Zhaodi and Lin Dazhuang, and she understood what Qian Shi meant.

"I'll buy it, but I'll give you the money after the county government's decision."

Madam Qian was taken aback. She looked at Wan Qiqi with a surprised expression, then smiled and said, "Okay."

She suddenly understood why her two children always wanted to visit the Chen family.
