Chapter 98 Transporting Timber

Chapter 98 Transporting Timber

"Yongnian, you're back so early today?"

"Yongnian's wife, you didn't go out today!"

"Yongnian, what are you doing with your wife?"

...

Many people greeted them along the way, but Chen Yongnian didn't respond. He just held Wan Qiqi's hand and walked with her.

Aunt Zhang said discontentedly, "What's wrong with Yongnian? He won't even acknowledge me when I greet him?"

"Mother, perhaps they are in a hurry, please don't be angry!" Yunniang comforted, her gaze following Chen Yongnian and Wan Qiqi as they walked away.

Although she didn't know what had happened, she could tell that Chen Yongnian was very worried about Wan Qiqi.

That direction seems to lead to Dr. Sun's house.

Inside the medicine hut, Sun Yin sat on a bench, his face ashen, staring at the person before him. "Do you know that getting one medicine wrong can cost a life?! It's been three days, and you still can't remember a single herb!"

Chen Zhu stood there, head down, lips pursed.

Sun Yin sighed deeply.

They're all of the Chen family bloodline, so why are they so different?

Chen Zhu raised his head, his eyes red, and said, word by word, "I'm sorry, please teach me again, I will definitely remember it."

Seeing that he was only eight years old, Sun Qian decided not to be too strict. He picked up the medicinal herbs and was about to explain when he heard someone outside shout, "Dr. Sun, please take a look at my wife!"

Turning his head, Chen Yongnian hurriedly approached, pulling Wan Qiqi along with him.

Upon seeing Wan Qiqi, Sun's mood brightened as if the rain had stopped, and he immediately smiled, "Qiqi, you're here!" Recalling Chen Yongnian's words, his expression suddenly changed, "Qiqi, what's wrong?"

Wan Qiqi saw that the nervous man had turned into two, and felt somewhat helpless.

She was just stung by a bee; it's nothing serious.

"Dr. Sun, look, the back of her hand is all swollen!" Chen Yongnian said, handing over Wan Qiqi's hand, which was swollen like a bun.

Sun Yin looked at it and frowned slightly. "What do the bees that stung her look like?"

Chen Yongnian then remembered that he seemed to have forgotten to bring back a bee.

Wan Qiqi explained, "Uncle Sun, it's an ordinary bee, it's not poisonous."

“How could I not see it?” Sun Yin gestured for Chen Yongnian to put her hand down. “I wanted to see if the bee’s stinger was still there. If it’s not, I’ll have to pick it out for you.”

Seeing that he couldn't find the bee anymore, he could only take Wan Qiqi into the medicine hut, light an oil lamp, and observe carefully.

Sure enough, the thorn was on the back of Wan Qiqi's hand.

Fifteen minutes later, Wan Qiqi's right hand was wrapped up like a rice dumpling, but the pain in her wound had been relieved considerably.

She had to admit that Sun Yin, the traditional Chinese medicine doctor, was more reliable than the medicine sold in the market.

After bandaging the wound, Sun Yin instructed, "Don't get it wet for the next two days. Just apply the dressing for two days and it will be fine."

Chen Yongnian quickly replied, "Okay."

Wan Qiqi then noticed the child helping out; he looked familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere before.

"Uncle, Aunt..." Chen Zhu carefully carried two cups of tea over.

Wan Qiqi then remembered that this was Chen Yongnian's cousin Chen Ergou's son.

They actually sent him to the medicine shop as an apprentice!

She smiled, took the water, and asked, "How's your learning going here?"

“That’s good,” Chen Zhu said, looking at Sun Yin.

"What's so good about it? It's been three days, and you still can't remember the herbs. Yongliang has a much better memory." Sun Qian felt a pang of nostalgia for Chen Yongliang, regretting that she shouldn't have given up on him in the first place.

Thinking for a moment, he continued, "What has Yongliang been doing lately? I haven't seen him in the village for a long time."

“I recently started a dessert business, and he helped me sell desserts in town,” Wan Qiqi said, without letting Sun Yin taste them yet. “When he comes back, I’ll have him send you some desserts. After all, you’re practically his mentor, so he should give you some good stuff.”

Sun Yin was delighted by her words, "You have such a sweet tongue, it's just a pity... sigh..."

Wan Qiqi knew he still cared about taking her as his apprentice, so she smiled and said, "There's nothing to regret. Uncle Sun, you have to believe that there will be someone more suitable."

"Alright! You'll find a reason to convince me." Sun Yin felt both regretful and happy that she had found something she wanted to do.

After chatting for a while, Wan Qiqi was arranged to go home by Chen Yongnian, while he went down the mountain to carry the wood back.

Wan Qiqi did not refuse, took the honey home, and then went out with Chen Yongxing.

"Uncle Yang, it's been a long time!" Wan Qiqi walked into Yang Mu's courtyard.

The yard was still full of sawdust and various wood fragments. Yang Mu was using a saw to cut the marked wood into sections.

Hearing the voice, he stopped what he was doing and smiled, "Qiqi, what brings you here today? What are you planning to do this time?"

"I didn't go out today, I just wanted to come and take a look." Wan Qiqi's eyes lingered on the marked piece of wood. "Is this the wood that Yongnian brought?"

“Yes!” Yang Mu sighed softly. “Every time he comes over, his clothes are soaked with sweat. I ask him to sit down and rest for a while, but he doesn’t say anything and says he wants to finish memorizing as soon as possible.”

Yang Mu pointed to several pieces of wood placed to the side, "It must have been quite a struggle for him to carry these thick pieces one by one."

Wan Qiqi knew that Chen Yongnian wanted to complete the task he had assigned as soon as possible, but brute force alone would not suffice.

She patted the wood being sawed and asked, "Uncle Yang, is this the right length?"

"Yes, for making a bed, this length is sufficient."

Wan Qiqi and Yang Mu took the saw and ruler, and together with Chen Yongxing, they borrowed a cart and headed out of the village.

Chen Yongnian had just finished carrying a load and was now resting on the wood. He found himself particularly tired today, even feeling somewhat powerless.

Looking up, I saw two familiar figures approaching from afar.
