Chapter 715 Confrontation in the Prison
Wan Qiqi stared at the small window in the cell for a long time.
She never understood who killed Li You and framed her.
Xie Xing didn't need to do this at this critical time.
Although Li You was a minor clerk, he was still someone who worked for the county government.
The fact that even the officials in the county government could die shows that he, as the official in charge of Yunhe County, was not doing a good job.
This is disadvantageous to Xie Xing!
There's no need for him to use this to bring down himself and Chen Yongnian, or to show his superiors his abilities.
Making a move now would raise suspicions that Xie Xing intends to eliminate all those who oppose him.
But if it's not Xie Xing, then who could it be?
Wan Qiqi sighed and lowered her head.
She sifted through all the possible people, but still couldn't find anyone who could have killed Li You.
Even the Tang family is unlikely to be involved!
Wan Qiqi felt that the only way to find out about Li You's death was to start with the corpse and his daily life.
Determine the true cause of death from the wounds on the body.
From their daily interactions, we can learn who Li You associates with and what enemies he has.
This will allow for a better judgment.
The authorities seemed unwilling to let him have any contact with them, locking him up overnight without any intention of interrogating him.
Even worse, Chen Yongnian was separated from himself.
According to reliable sources, Wu Gousheng was also arrested and even taken to a torture chamber for interrogation.
However, the people in the torture chamber didn't go too far; he only suffered some minor injuries.
As Wan Qiqi was thinking, she heard footsteps behind her.
She assumed they were just passing officials and paid them no mind, continuing to ponder with her head down.
After a while, she realized that a gaze was fixed on her.
Wan Qiqi was taken aback and slowly turned around.
She met the eyes of the man at the cell door.
Neither of them spoke, they stared at each other silently, as if trying to glean something from the other's eyes.
Wan Qiqi looked around for a while, then, finding it uninteresting, she lowered her eyes and said, "Lord Xie, it's best not to linger in such a filthy place, or you'll be tainted by bad luck!"
Xie Xing then looked away, had someone open the cell door, and went inside.
He sat down on the bench, turned his head to look at Wan Qiqi, and said, "Ever since what happened last time, you've been talking to me like this. Haven't you ever had a chance to talk properly?"
Wan Qiqi gave a cold laugh, sitting cross-legged, showing no regard for her image whatsoever.
She said nonchalantly, "I'm just a country woman, I don't know any rules, please forgive me if I say anything wrong, sir!"
After he finished speaking, the cell fell silent.
“Qiqi, I know you’re not!” Xie Xing said, turning his head to look at Wan Qiqi. “From the first moment I saw you, I knew you weren’t an ordinary country woman.”
“Then I think Lord Xie might have a problem with his eyes!” Wan Qiqi laughed self-deprecatingly. “I’m no different from other women, except that I’m bold and always do things that others wouldn’t dare to do.”
After she finished speaking, she lowered her legs and bowed her head.
"I shouldn't have sat cross-legged, my legs are numb! I absolutely can't let the other person find out!" she thought to herself.
Xie Xing didn't notice Wan Qiqi's unusual behavior; he was thinking about what Wan Qiqi had said, "That's exactly why you stand out from the crowd."
Wan Qiqi rested for a while before getting up and sitting down opposite Xie Xing.
"Lord Xie, you came all this way just to tell me this? Are the officials too idle?"
She poured herself a drink and didn't care whether Xie Xing drank it or not.
Xie Xing looked at her and seemed to understand Wan Qiqi's attitude.
He straightened his clothes and said in a deep voice, "This is the first and last time I'm asking you, are you really not planning to stay with me? As long as I get promoted, I guarantee Yongnian will stay too..."
"My lord!" Wan Qiqi interrupted Xie Xing, "Promotion is based on political achievements and contributions to the people and the country, not on dirty and despicable means!"
Her eyes were firm as she said, "Whether I get promoted or not is not important to me. What's important is that my friends are still around, and that everyone is living in peace and happiness!"
"If you have no rights, you will be crushed and bullied. How can you live in peace and prosperity, how can you be happy?" Xie Xing retorted.
“Yes! Power is important, but it depends on what means are used to obtain it!” Wan Qiqi said seriously.
"As long as the result is the same, what does it matter how the process is?" Xie Xing asked.
Once you reach the position you want and gain power, you can make amends to those you have hurt.
Everything is for the greater good; what does it matter if some people and things are sacrificed?
Xie Xing did not think he had done anything wrong.
He only sacrificed people with problems; he didn't harm any innocent people!
"But life isn't about the outcome, it's about enjoying the process!" Wan Qiqi retorted, her voice rising a few decibels.
"If we only look at the outcome, then the end for a person is death. Why suffer like this? You might as well just die!"
Her words reached the ears of the officers and soldiers.
The officers and soldiers' faces darkened.
They thought this woman was incredibly bold!
How dare they say such things to Lord Xie!
Xie Xing noticed that the soldiers at the door looked uneasy and gestured for them to leave.
After everyone left, he said, "Why do you have to get so hung up on this?"
"Am I being nitpicky? I'm just stating the facts." Wan Qiqi said coldly, her attitude firm.
Xie Xing understood that Wan Qiqi wanted to tell him that the two of them had different goals and could never be together, let alone on the same side.
He felt that Wan Qiqi's words were too decisive.
There are no permanent friends, nor permanent enemies.
Xie Xing didn't try to persuade Wan Qiqi anymore.
He knew that as long as they were still alive, they would one day return to the same camp.
He just didn't know in what way.
"Alright! Let's leave it at that." Xie Xing's words carried a hint of disappointment.
