Chapter 41 Epidemic Area

Chapter 41 Epidemic Area

"Wife?"

Wan Qiqi was startled by the voice and turned around after a long while.

She sized up the man in front of her.

His skin was a dark wheat color, his clothes were covered with patches and torn in several places, and the straw mat under his feet had a hole in it, with his big toe sticking out of his straw sandal.

Wan Qiqi stared at her feet for a long time before raising her head and meeting those bloodshot eyes.

She hadn't expected that the person Chen Sanyuan had arranged to pick her up would be Chen Yongnian. Despite the embarrassment of being caught red-handed, she still managed a smile.

Although his face was covered by a cloth, Chen Yongnian still saw the smile in Wan Qiqi's eyes and called out again, "Wife."

"Yongnian, is this really your wife?" a guard asked with some doubt. "When did you get a new wife?"

“It hasn’t changed, it’s still her.” Chen Yongnian said as he took the luggage from Wan Qiqi.

The man stared at Wan Qiqi for a long time before he was sure when he saw the mole at the corner of her eye.

Then he asked, "Now that you're all here, what about the children?"

"My elderly relatives are taking care of me." After returning, Wan Qiqi took two steps inside, then turned back. "Let's go in first! Can you show me around, or is there another arrangement?"

"Oh, okay, I'll take you." Chen Yongnian immediately ran over and walked inside side by side with Wan Qiqi.

The two people standing at the sentry post looked at each other with disbelief in their eyes.

"Is that really the Wan family?"

"That should be right, Chen Yongnian can't afford to marry anyone else!"

"But she really doesn't look like it!"

"They look the same, though they don't look alike."

"They do look the same, but she gives off a completely different vibe than before!"

"Sigh, that's the Chen family's business. Why do you care so much?"

Then, a silence fell between the two.

Chen Yongnian led Wan Qiqi into a small courtyard, the whole courtyard filled with the smell of burning mugwort.

With a creak, the door was pushed open, revealing a floor covered with a thick layer of straw.

There was no bed in the room, but there were several pillows on the straw, and a woman was lying there resting, with a bundle next to her.

"Wife, go inside and choose a place where you can sleep when you rest." Chen Yongnian thought to himself that he was a man and it was inappropriate to go into a woman's resting place with her.

Wan Qiqi hesitated at the door for a long time before tiptoeing in, finding a secluded spot to put down her bundle, and then tiptoeing out again.

Chen Yongnian gently closed the door and walked out of the courtyard before saying, "Wife, you may have to sleep on straw."

"It's alright, everyone's the same." Wan Qiqi thought to herself, sleeping on straw is a minor matter, the spread of the plague is the real issue.

After taking only two steps, Wan Qiqi saw several simple thatched huts and asked, "What are those for?"

Thatched huts look like they could be blown away by a strong wind.

The way he ran.

Chen Yongnian looked in the direction she pointed and said, "That's where we rest."

"Where you're resting?" Wan Qiqi wanted to know if it meant what she thought it meant.

“Yes.” Chen Yongnian nodded. “My third brother has contracted the plague these past few days. The house we live in can no longer be inhabited, and other places are also full. We can only temporarily build a few thatched houses.”

"All rooms are occupied?"

“No…” Chen Yongnian scratched his head. “There are a few rooms with corpses inside, so they can’t be lived in.”

Wan Qiqi was shocked to hear this, "Aren't the corpses infected with the plague cremated?"

Storing corpses like this will only lead to more and more people getting infected.

The higher the temperature, the greater the likelihood of infection for staff who come into contact with the infected person!

No wonder the plague has not improved, but has instead become more and more serious.

“We were supposed to burn it, but some people didn’t want to, so we kept putting it off…” Chen Yongnian felt a headache coming on when he thought of the villagers’ disturbance a few days ago.

He went to help, but got arrested, and his back still hurts.

However, he couldn't let his wife know; he didn't want her to worry.

Wan Qiqi thought to herself, what's there to be conflicted about? Not burning it is tantamount to suicide!

Even if some people are unwilling, it still has to be burned!

Wan Qiqi followed Chen Yongnian around the epidemic area and was able to roughly determine the arrangements for the entire epidemic area.

Several households around Dr. Sun's house were used to receive patients, and many thatched huts were also built to house patients. This area was the patient area, and further out was the logistics area, where medicine was decocted and meals were cooked. Further out was the accommodation area for other people.

The overall arrangement was fine, except for those few rooms for the dead, which shouldn't have been there.

However, the overall conditions are rudimentary and the environment is poor, making it difficult to ensure that food is completely clean, which can easily lead to infection. This is a key issue.

Wan Qiqi felt a headache coming on; this was clearly more backward than she had imagined.

Looking at the dirty water spilled on the ground and the medicine residue scattered everywhere, her obsessive-compulsive disorder kicked in, and she almost couldn't resist cleaning the entire area.

Chen Yongnian saw a layer of sweat on Wan Qiqi's forehead and raised his hand to wipe it clean for her, but then remembered that she had complained about him being dirty before, so he withdrew his hand.

Wan Qiqi glanced at it, wiped her sweat, and asked, "Where did the village head want me to go to help?"

"The village head said he'll arrange for you to prepare the medicine." He saw Wan Qiqi frown slightly and continued, "If you don't want to, I'll talk to the village head."

"No, I'm fine with anything." This is exactly what Wan Qiqi wanted to do; she could mix the antibiotics she bought at the mall into the medication and give it to the patient to relieve their symptoms.

After Chen Yongnian escorted Wan Qiqi to the medicine-decocting area, he stood at the door for a long time before reluctantly leaving.

He couldn't bear to see Wan Qiqi suffer here, nor did he want anything to happen to her, but he knew that he couldn't change Wan Qiqi's decision.
