Chapter 263 Master Wan Passes Away
As dusk approached, Wan Qiqi finally led Wu Gousheng and the little monkey back to Hefeng Town.
As soon as we arrived at the town entrance, we heard the townspeople talking.
"It seems Master Wan has gone!"
"Really? I've always heard people say he wouldn't make it through the winter. Now the heavy snow has passed, and winter is almost over. Is he really really gone?"
"It's true, the man next door passed by the Wan family and saw them hanging up a white silk ribbon!"
"Alas, what a pity. Master Wan was such a good man, how could he have died so young?"
"Yes! In the end, they didn't even have any offspring."
"Fortunately, we have Master Wan, our adopted son, so we can handle the funeral as if he were our biological father."
"That's not bad either. At least someone will be there to see him off in his old age. In any case, Master Wan won't be without an heir."
"..."
All Wan Qiqi could hear was discussion about the death of Master Wan.
Every word was like a stone, piling up one after another in Wan Qiqi's heart.
Is he really dead?
Although Wan Qiqi had witnessed many life-and-death separations since she came into this world, none of them had made her as distressed as this time.
Even though she was a complete stranger, watching others leave made her feel even worse.
I've said I'd visit countless times, but I've never gone.
If she had paid more attention to Wan Ziyan and visited Master Wan sooner, could she have borrowed medicine from the store to prolong Master Wan's life?
In ancient times, many terminal illnesses were incurable because there were no medicines available. But she had a marketplace and modern medicines. Once the illness was diagnosed, she could alleviate the patient's condition according to the medication instructions.
At that moment, she suddenly regretted not learning some pharmaceutical knowledge instead of going into sales.
If I knew medicine, I would have treated Master Wan immediately to prevent this tragedy from happening.
Why?
Why didn't I go see Master Wan sooner!
Wan Qiqi took two steps forward, but her legs suddenly went weak, and she stumbled and almost fell to the ground.
The little monkey rushed forward to help him up.
Wu Gousheng also subconsciously reached out to help, but because of the difference between men and women, he only reached out to help in a perfunctory manner and did not actually touch the other person.
"Sister Qi, are you alright? You don't look too well."
As dusk fell, Wan Qiqi's face was pale, and the light in her eyes seemed to slowly disappear with the setting sun.
Wan Qiqi closed her eyes and gritted her teeth, trying to drive away the gloom from her heart, but found that no matter what she did, she could not dispel it.
She couldn't understand why she cared about people who were unrelated to her, but didn't care about Wan Ziyan's affairs at all.
This person who warms my heart, yet I can't give him enough security, or even protect the people he cares about.
The road was long and winding; by the time we reached the doorsteps of countless homes, the sun had long since disappeared.
The sky was dark, and the white silk fluttered in the wind.
Wan Qiqi looked up at the white silk on the plaque of the Wan residence, her eyes seemingly clouded by the silk, unable to see the scene in the courtyard.
"Sister-in-law, you're finally back!" Chen Yongliang's panicked face lit up with joy as he hurried to Wan Qiqi's side. "It's so good that you're back safe and sound. Your brother was so worried!"
He glanced at Wan Qiqi up and down a few times, noticing some mud stains on the hem of her skirt near her knees. He frowned slightly. "Sister-in-law, did you fall? Did you hurt yourself anywhere?"
Countless questions, when they reach Wan Qiqi, are like stones falling into the deep sea, disappearing without a trace.
Chen Yongliang sensed something was wrong and waved his hand in front of Wan Qiqi's eyes twice.
Wan Qiqi slapped his hand away and said coldly, "I'm fine, how about Second Brother?"
Chen Yongliang breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that she had reacted.
Hearing Wan Qiqi's question, he lowered his head again, "I knelt in the mourning hall and didn't say a word, just knelt there."
Wan Qiqi nodded slightly and took a deep breath.
Since Wan Ziyan said so, as her younger sister, she certainly couldn't remain depressed.
She glanced at the little monkey and said to Wu Gousheng, "Take the little monkey back to Lianhua Village first, go to my house to let them know we're safe, and tell my mother and Yongxing that we might not be home for the next few days."
"Okay." Wu Gousheng nodded, holding the little monkey's hand, looking serious, wanting only to put Wan Qiqi at ease.
Wan Qiqi took out a small piece of silver from her purse and handed it to Wu Gousheng. "In the next few days, please ask around the village if anyone has chickens they'd like to sell. Buy them and send them to my house. Yongxing will know what to do with them."
Chickens are sold in the mall, and the price isn't actually that high.
But Wan Qiqi believes that eating free-range chickens from the village would be better.
If she has time in the future, she will set up a chicken farm and raise some chickens in a free-range manner.
Half of the chickens are raised as hens to lay eggs; the other half are raised as black-boned chickens or similar animals to provide ingredients for the restaurants.
However, these are all just ideas at the moment, and we still need to see how they are implemented.
"Okay," Wu Gousheng replied as usual, then pressed, "Is there anything else?"
Wan Qiqi rested her chin on her hand and thought for a moment before saying, "Chongniang is about to give birth. Could you please tell Doctor Sun to help me find a midwife? Also, little monkey, he can say a few words now. Could you ask Doctor Sun to check on him again? You can teach him to speak when you have time..."
Wan Qiqi had considered everyone in her family, taking everything into account, and making arrangements and plans accordingly.
Listening to this, Chen Yongliang felt as if his sister-in-law was planning to leave the house.
After settling everything down and seeing Wu Gousheng and the little monkey off, Wan Qiqi still stood at the entrance of the Wan residence.
She let out a long sigh of relief and finally stepped inside.
Ah Lai came towards us.
When he saw Wan Qiqi, a hint of a smile finally appeared on his mournful face. "Miss, please go and talk to the young master. He hasn't eaten or drunk anything since he came back. If this continues, someone could die!"
A person can go a day without food, but without water, they will die of dehydration.
