Chapter 34 Worries
As night fell, Wan Qiqi and Wang Shi finished their chores and returned to their rooms.
After Chen Yongxing talked with Li Chongniang, she still seemed unwilling, but she didn't try to leave again.
Pingping and An'an are still young and don't understand what a plague is or what the consequences of it will be. They are still pestering Chen Yongnian to go up the mountain tomorrow to pick wild fruits for them to eat.
In the past, every year at this time, Chen Yongnian would go up the mountain to chop firewood or dig for wild vegetables, and he would always bring back some wild fruits for his two children to eat.
This is also the perfect season for wild fruits to ripen.
However, Chen Yongnian was willing but unable to fulfill these wishes for his two children, which caused him some distress.
Looking at his two children beside him, he didn't know what to do.
If I promise but can't keep my promise, I'll disappoint them; if I don't promise, I'll make the two kids sad.
Wan Qiqi searched for a long time in the mall before finding some medicine to prevent cholera and putting it in water. When she brought the water in, she saw two children clinging to Chen Yongnian.
She was stunned for a long time.
Chen Yongnian's relationship with his two children is very similar to how modern children pester their fathers to buy them things; it's very heartwarming.
But Chen Yongnian's helpless look made him seem clumsy, and even a little cute.
"Pingping, An'an, don't bother your father, he needs to rest!"
With just one sentence from Wan Qiqi, the two children immediately let go of Chen Yongnian and stood obediently.
Compared to before, the two children seemed a bit more reserved.
Wan Qiqi understood that this was the oppressive feeling that the original owner had given to the two children in the past. Even though the same body now had a different soul, it still made the two children afraid.
"My lady, it's alright..." Chen Yongnian swallowed back the words he wanted to say when he saw Wan Qiqi's expression.
Having spent so many years with Wan Qiqi, he had a pretty good grasp of her temperament; usually, this expression meant she was about to get angry.
He quickly helped the two children lie down on the bed, and then lay down on the straw himself, pretending to be a good sleeper.
Wan Qiqi was a little frustrated. She hadn't done or said anything, but Chen Yongnian seemed to have read a lot into it.
She sighed helplessly, carried the water in her hand to Chen Yongnian, and handed it to him. "There are a few things my mother asked me to tell you."
"Okay." Chen Yongnian obediently took the water, drank it all in one gulp, and then frowned slightly.
This water tastes a little off... but it was given to me by my wife, so it should be fine.
Wan Qiqi noticed Chen Yongnian's expression but pretended not to see it. She turned around, went to bed, and tidied the blankets, wanting to see how Chen Yongnian would ask questions.
For a long while, no one spoke.
Chen Yongnian craned his neck, waiting for Wan Qiqi to tell him what her mother had told him.
Wan Qiqi looked back at Chen Yongnian's expectant face and felt slightly helpless.
You clearly tasted something in the water, but didn't even ask?
What if she poisoned it?
What an idiot!
Wan Qiqi had to admit that the feeling of being unconditionally trusted was wonderful, especially in this ancient rural area where the person was relatively unfamiliar to her.
She looked at Chen Yongnian and began to give him "Wang's instructions": "After you go in to help, wash your hands frequently, do not touch anything raw, and only drink boiled water."
"good."
"When in contact with patients, you must cover your face with a cloth."
"good."
"Except when eating, you must not remove the cloth covering your face."
"good."
"..."
The two looked into each other's eyes and fell silent.
Wan Qiqi doubted whether he had understood at all, as he answered "yes" blankly to every question.
Perhaps seeing Wan Qiqi frowning, Chen Yongnian immediately added, "I will definitely do what my wife says!"
Even though Wan Qiqi had seen countless people, she couldn't quite figure out Chen Yongnian's inconsistent intelligence.
Fortunately, Chen Yongnian believed Wan Qiqi's words without a doubt, so there was nothing seriously wrong with him.
She waved her hand and said, "Go to sleep! You and your third brother will have a lot to do starting tomorrow. You need to rest well to have the energy to work."
"Yes, my wife." Chen Yongnian turned off the light.
Not long after I lay down, I could hear even breathing.
Wan Qiqi tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
It would be a lie to say I'm not worried.
If the epidemic really spreads, everyone in the village will be affected, and it may even spread to other places.
She didn't want her life to end so soon after it began.
She has shopping malls, a golden touch, and medicine.
But she didn't have enough money to ensure that everyone infected with the plague could get medicine.
She couldn't guarantee that the medicine redeemed in the mall could actually cure the plague of ancient times.
Worry swirled in Wan Qiqi's mind again and again, and she didn't know when she fell asleep.
At the sound of a rooster crowing, Wan Qiqi reluctantly got out of bed and rubbed her eyes.
The sky outside the window was clear and bright, and the straw on the ground had been cleared away. She didn't even know when the two little bags beside her had gotten up.
"Awake? I left some porridge, go wash up and eat." Wang took an axe and chopped the firewood into small pieces, piling them against the wall.
Wan Qiqi glanced at the horizon; the sun was already halfway up the horizon. "Mother, my second brother and I are going to the mountains to dig for wild vegetables. You and Insect Mother stay home and don't go anywhere."
During this time, although she told Wang not to do anything, Wang still secretly ran out, either to secretly chop firewood or dig wild vegetables, and in short, she couldn't stay idle.
Wan Qiqi didn't understand what was wrong with him, but she didn't care too much, thinking that as long as the other person liked it, that was fine.
But the situation is different now. It's unclear who outside is infected with the plague and who isn't. The best thing to do is stay home and not go anywhere.
But she couldn't; staying at home was tantamount to waiting to die!
She was going to go up the mountain to get some money, just in case.
“Okay, I won’t go out,” Wang replied with a smile.
