Chapter 18: More Food Available
After Wan Qiqi entered the house, everyone in the main room ran out and surrounded the kitchen, talking incessantly about what was in the pot, but no one dared to lift the lid.
Pingping smelled the aroma from the pot and her mouth watered. She turned to Chen Yongnian and asked, "Father, can we eat now?"
Chen Yongnian was in a dilemma; he didn't know either.
Wang hugged Pingping and coaxed, "You can't eat yet. Wait until your mother comes back, okay?"
Wang usually spends more time with the two little ones, and they generally obey her commands as soon as she speaks. This time was no different.
Li Chongniang stood to the side, her brows furrowed. "Mother, don't eat random things. It would be terrible if you got sick."
“Worm Girl is right, we can’t eat them indiscriminately!” Chen Yongxing felt that octopuses were inedible no matter how he looked at them.
Wan Qiqi listened attentively, waiting for everyone to react with genuine delight.
But before that, let's take care of other things.
She glanced at the people in the courtyard, her voice rather cold, and said, "Enter the main room."
Although no one knew what she was going to do, they obeyed her orders.
Wan Qiqi then said, "Lock the door!"
Chen Yongliang walked at the very back, placed a thick wooden stick across the door, and then came over and sat down.
Wan Qiqi placed the burlap sack on the table, and the sack tilted, spilling out a few grains of rice.
Li Chongniang, with her sharp eyes, immediately saw what was inside and almost cried out in surprise, quickly covering her mouth.
Having learned her lesson, she wouldn't be so foolish again, and asked in a low voice, "Sister-in-law, where did you get the rice?"
"Hidden," Wan Qiqi answered casually.
Upon hearing this, Li Chongniang was unsure how to react.
She hated that her sister-in-law had hidden so many good things, but she was also glad that her sister-in-law had also hidden grain so that everyone wouldn't go hungry.
"Sister-in-law, did you hide anything else?" Chen Yongliang found it intriguing. His sister-in-law first produced a bag of white rice, and now she produced a bag of brown rice.
In the past, he would never have believed that his sister-in-law would share her things, but now she really did!
Not only that, my sister-in-law even brought out the best white rice first!
Before anyone could react, Wan Qiqi placed the money pouch on the table, and the clinking of copper coins quickly reached everyone's ears. Then, a copper coin was revealed to everyone.
If people were surprised before, now they are shocked, and even somewhat incredulous.
Wan Qiqi still has money!
Wan Qiqi took out the money!
Wan Qiqi took out her things to share!
One incident after another refreshed everyone's understanding of Wan Qiqi, and made everyone realize that Wan Qiqi has really changed, and is not lying.
Wan Qiqi glanced at the people present and calmly said, "Here are two hundred coins. I'd like to buy Pingping and An'an a pair of shoes, preferably new clothes, a new pot, and some vegetable seeds. What do you think?"
Everyone stood there, not reacting.
Wang glanced at the wallet and pushed it towards Wan Qiqi, saying, "This is your money, you can decide what to do with it."
Wan Qiqi nodded and then asked, "What kind of seeds should I buy? I don't know much about them."
Wang frowned, as if recalling something. "We can buy some cabbage and mallow seeds. If we have radishes, we can buy some too."
Cabbage... Malva verticillata... Radish...
Wan Qiqi was a little confused. What was all this?
She treated the shopping mall like an encyclopedia, searching directly until she finally found out it was cabbage, winter amaranth, and radish...
She is grateful that she has a shopping mall, which keeps her from becoming out of touch with the times!
She and Wang chatted back and forth about growing vegetables.
The three brothers stood to the side, occasionally chiming in with a word or two.
The two little ones listened intently with their big eyes wide open, nodding occasionally as if they understood.
Li Chongniang sat alone, finding it difficult to join the conversation.
Mingming knew these things much better than Wan Qiqi, and she was the one who used to take care of the family's cooking.
Now she feels like an outsider in this family.
