Chapter 456 Trouble in the Wasteland
"Knock knock knock~"
"Knock knock knock~"
The knocking on the door startled the sleeping person awake.
"Who is it? Making noise so late at night, why aren't you sleeping..." Tie Niu lit a candle and walked out, cursing.
The people outside seemed to hear footsteps in the courtyard and stopped knocking.
"Dong—dong, dong, dong, dong! Go to bed early and get up early, take care of your health..." The night watchman's voice came at this moment.
"Hey young man, what are you doing? It's already past 3 AM, why are you still standing outside in the yard?"
"I'm sorry, I just came back from outside. I scared you!"
"It's alright, it'll be dawn in an hour. You're back late this time, did your wife lock you out the door?"
"No...no, you're busy, I'll wait for someone to open the door for me."
"Alright, old man, I won't bother you anymore... thump... thump, thump, thump, thump..."
The night watchman's voice faded into the distance.
Tie Niu listened carefully and recognized the voice of the person speaking at the door.
But he couldn't figure out why, at the hour of Yin (3-5 AM), someone would run over here and knock on the door.
Perhaps because of his previous accident, Tie Niu didn't think much of it and opened the courtyard gate.
The gust of wind blew the candle flame in his hand onto his face, and nearly blew his outer robe off to the ground.
He squinted and stared for a long time, but still couldn't make out who it was.
"It's me, Chen Yongxing!"
Although Chen Yongxing didn't know who opened the door, he knew that if he gave his name, the other person would definitely recognize him.
"Brother Yongxing, it's you! What brings you here in the middle of the night? What happened?" Tie Niu said as he blew on a tinderbox to relight the oil lamp in his hand.
The faint candlelight illuminated the small patch of space in front of them, reflecting the face of the person in question.
Tie Niu took a step back in fright, his eyes full of surprise, and said, "What happened to you? How did you get hurt? What happened to your forehead? And why are your clothes covered in mud?"
Chen Yongxing walked in, closed the courtyard gate, glanced down at his clothes, and said, "It's nothing. It was too dark on the road, and I fell a few times. I'm fine."
As he spoke, he walked inside, stopped by the well, drew a bucket of water, and washed the mud off his palms.
When Tie Niu got closer, he discovered that Chen Yongxing's palms were scraped and bleeding from several cuts.
"You can't wash it off. I'll go get some ointment to apply."
Before Chen Yongxing could answer, Tie Niu had already lit a lamp and gone inside.
Although the voices outside weren't loud, Wu Gousheng had already woken up and came out with Tie Niu, asking, "Brother Yongxing, did something happen in the wasteland?"
Thinking of Tie Niu and Er Pang, Wu Gousheng understood the situation in the village better and knew what Chen Yongxing had been busy with lately.
"Hmm, there might be a big problem!" Chen Yongxing said, lowering his head.
He could handle minor matters, but he was truly helpless in this situation!
He originally planned to come over at dawn, but he couldn't sleep in the middle of the night, so he went to check the situation in the wasteland. He couldn't wait any longer, so he made his way over in the dark.
He stumbled and fell several times along the way because the torch went out, which is why it took him this long to reach the town.
According to normal circumstances, he should arrive around 4 AM, not before 5 AM.
Wu Gousheng's eyes were deep and he looked up at the second floor, hesitating.
Sister Qi has been working hard and worrying about the restaurant. She just finished dealing with the guests from all directions, and now it's all wasteland. He's afraid that Sister Qi's health won't be able to take it.
Before going to bed last night, he told Sister Qi to rest for two days before returning to the village, and not to overwork herself and get sick.
Unexpectedly, before I had even fully woken up from my nap, a series of problems arose.
As the three were talking in the courtyard, candlelight suddenly lit up on the second floor.
Without a doubt, Wan Qiqi must have been awakened by the commotion just now.
Wan Qiqi's sleep quality is not good; she is easily awakened by any noise outside.
She felt that living there was fine, except for being woken up by the night watchman every night.
But this is something she cannot change, nor should she change it.
In ancient times, there were no clocks or watches; the time at night was known only by the night watchman.
According to her calculations, when the night watchman passed by her house to announce the fifth watch each day, it should actually be around 4:00 AM, which is the second quarter of the Yin hour.
I don't know how to calculate this time, but for her, getting up at this time is absolutely agonizing!
She lit the lamp and carefully opened the door, afraid of waking her two sleeping children.
The wind made the candle flame flicker violently, and it was no use trying to shield it with my hand.
Wan Qiqi descended the stairs in the dim light, walked towards the three of them, and said, "Tie Niu, go back to sleep. You have to go to the restaurant to work tomorrow."
Tie Niu knew he couldn't be of any help here, so he obediently went back to his room to rest.
The other three went into the living room.
Wu Gousheng applied medicine to Chen Yongxing, while Wan Qiqi sat to the side asking about the situation.
Chen Yongxing briefly recounted what had happened in the past few days: "The seeds I planted had all sprouted and were growing quite well, but for some reason, the seedlings started to wither and turn yellow these past few days. When I went to check on them tonight, almost all of them had died..."
Upon hearing this, Wan Qiqi lowered her eyes and fell into deep thought.
She didn't quite believe that the seedlings, which were growing so well, would suddenly have an accident; she always felt as if someone was playing tricks on her behind the scenes.
But who would lay a hand on her seedlings?
Tang Qiwen?
There was no news of him for a while, as if he had really disappeared.
But Wan Qiqi didn't believe that Tang Qiwen would really let it go like that!
Even if he were being controlled, he would probably be secretly doing something, instead of remaining so quiet.
So when Miao got into trouble, the first person she thought of was Tang Qiwen.
However, Wan Qiqi needs to return to Lotus Village to determine the specifics.
