Chapter 13 Clam 2

At this moment, Haitang looked into the water and saw the river mussels. She immediately told Yueyue to stay on the shore, "Yueyue, you stay on the shore, I'll go down."

"Mm." Yueyue nodded. Haitang went into the water and started picking up river clams. In this world, almost no one eats these things, and Haitang's basket was full in no time.

Because the water was too deep, Haitang was submerged up to her waist. Haitang asked Yueyue to pull the vines and tie them to a tree not far away, and she also pulled herself up.

It's better to be safe than sorry. If she doesn't believe that she might have fallen into the middle of the river, Yueyue can still pull her up.

Of course, can a four-year-old do it? There's no need to ask, the answer is definitely yes. She's not heavy, currently weighing around 30 pounds. Carrying 30 pounds every month is no problem at all. Plus, she can swim, so it's even easier for her.

Haitang was looking for river clams in the water and throwing them into a basket. When the basket was full, she would pull it up to the surface. Yueyue immediately helped her up. Haitang told Yueyue to live, and Yueyue nodded.

Haitang started searching again. After an hour, Haitang couldn't take it anymore and asked Yueyue to pull her upstairs. They started grilling the river clam meat over the fire and then took the meat down.

"Sister..." Yueyue was slightly taken aback when she saw Haitang doing this. What was she doing?

"The meat will loosen up after being roasted like this. Take it out and dry it in the sun. It'll be another meat meal in winter," Haitang said. The river clam was quite large, about the size of a palm.

Upon hearing this, Yueyue immediately nodded. After resting for an hour and eating a few river clams, Haitang went back down to start fishing. During the day, she got a cramp and asked Yueyue to pull her off the vine.

Haitang's leg cramped up but her hands were gone. Yueyue helped her up, and she managed to climb up without any serious injury. "Sister, I'll go down in a bit," Haitang said, shaking her head.

"No, we've found enough today. Let's go back first." Haitang shook her head, not letting Yueyue go down, but instead instructed, "Yueyue, you must be good and not go into such deep water alone."

"Mmm." Yueyue nodded and followed his sister to grill river clams. The river clams smelled delicious, and he ate a few, which were also very tasty. However, his sister said they should save them for winter, so he started eating sweet potato cakes instead.

Before his father's accident, even though his mother would steal the food, there was always meat to eat whenever his father was around. But looking at his sister, he felt sorry for her...

My sister has lost a lot of weight, especially these days. Her chin has become even thinner. Even though she eats all day long, she only eats until she's about 70% full. In addition, she exercises a lot every day, so it's natural that Haitang has lost weight.

Haitang looked at the small fish not far away and leaned in to feed Yueyue. Yueyue looked at them and said, "Good girl, you came out to work with your sister today, so you need to eat more..."

Yueyue ate the small fish, then shook her head when she saw another one. "Give it to my little brother." Haitang nodded and put it back as well. There were half a basket of river clams under her naked eye.

Haitang was going to carry it on her back, but Yueyue snatched it away. Haitang didn't try to take it back. Looking at the child, whose body was now almost as tall as the basket, she felt both sorry for her and amused.

Haitang took two baskets. When she returned, she also gathered a lot of wild vegetables. When she went to check on the trap she had set, she found that fish had run into it. Haitang immediately started to take the two fish out.

There are many fish swimming downstream, and a few always come in. Haitang is overjoyed. She looks at the fish and starts to clean them. She also catches two crabs, planning to go back and cook them into a wild vegetable soup. However, there are not many fish.

Haitang looked at the distance and tried to stab a few with a stick, but failed. Instead, Yueyue grabbed two more, which were small but enough.

Haitang felt deeply discouraged, but she shook her head helplessly. Her younger brother was too amazing, and the older sister was under a lot of pressure.

Haitang cleaned the fish. "Yueyue, catch two more and bring them up." Haitang tied a vine around herself and Yueyue. Yueyue nodded. Haitang started cleaning and waited until Yueyue came up and caught a few fish, as well as a turtle.

Haitang became even happier, "We're having grilled fish today." Right now, Daddy gave Dongfanglong two fish, and the little one got one each. The turtle soup will be served, and the crab will be cooked with vermicelli tomorrow.

Haitang took it back immediately. Dongfang Long returned with two rabbits, which he had killed by throwing stones at them. Looking at Haitang, he said, "These are mine, and these are for you..."

"..." Seeing someone so unpretentious for the first time, Haitang nodded. "Okay, this rabbit is yours. Go wash it clean. From now on, half of what you hunt is yours. How about it?"

"Hmm." Dongfang Long immediately perked up. The boy, who was only a little over 18, had a strong obsession with food. Haitang looked at the child, who was about the same height as her, and couldn't help but shake her head helplessly.

After the rabbits were cleaned, Haitang started pickling them. Two fish were given to Dongfang Long. Today, Dongfang Long not only brought back two rabbits, but also a wild boar with Shi Hu. However, the wild boar was a bit small, weighing about 100 pounds, and Dongfang Long caught it with Shi Hu.

Haitang didn't let the wild boar be dealt with immediately, but instead ate something first. The roasted meat was delicious, and the children were all very happy eating it, as was Dongfanglong. Haitang's cooking skills were the best.

Haitang also let the children eat the turtle soup, and the vermicelli was still in it. Xingxing and Yueyue were already 80% full and were rubbing their little bellies. Under these circumstances, Haitang shook her head and began to clean the pork.

The pig's blood smiled and was about to ask for it, something he hadn't done last time. But this time, Haitang put it in a seashell and started helping to clean the pork. Haitang fried the lard in something, and once it was fried, she found a jar and poured it into it.

Haitang currently wants pottery, which is not a problem. Even if someone comes to exchange it, it won't be considered a proper match, but there's nothing else to match anyway.

As Haitang sat there, she was thinking about something. "Father, where are there tall trees with many sections here?" Haitang asked. "Those are bamboos."

"Yes, but it's a bit far away. Do you want it?" Hearing this, Haitang hesitated for a moment and then nodded.

"I want it." If we get it back, it can be used to make a jar. "Father, I'll go with you to get it tomorrow." Upon hearing this, Shi Hu nodded.

Once the pork was ready, Haitang started making the marinated meat. At that moment, Dongfang Long stood aside, watching Haitang intently marinating the meat, wanting to help but not knowing where to begin.

I breathed a sigh of relief after cleaning up the crabapple. I started hanging the meat up to dry.
