Chapter 17 Wintering

Kiln firing is currently impossible to do; just the kiln firing platform itself is very complicated.

However, Haitang also mentioned choosing a video of a kiln firing process, because if a large one wasn't feasible, she could choose a small one. After watching the video, Haitang began to study it.

When Haitang was studying at home, she planned to dig a place to heat a kang (a traditional heated bed) behind this place, and of course, she also had to make sure the soil was of good quality.

The making of porcelain requires things like controlling the firing temperature, so Haitang naturally needed to prepare a lot. However, looking at her points, Haitang sighed; she was penniless again.

Under these circumstances, Haitang could only start to prepare food. Haitang planned to take a bamboo tube to the water, but Yueyue, who was not far away, came back carrying water.

"When did you run away?" Haitang looked at Yueyue with a bad expression. This little one, who is only a few years old, ran away in this awful weather. Heaven knows what she went through.

"Big Water, I caught two more fish," Yueyue said, looking at Haitang. Haitang looked at them and saw that Yueyue had cleaned the fish.

Haitang felt a mix of emotions about this, and at that moment she felt incredibly sad. She reached out and hugged Yueyue, saying, "You can't disobey me and run away by yourself anymore."

"Yes, I'll tell my sister." Yueyue had gone out alone because she saw her sister's hairband, but when she looked at Haitang, she nodded obediently.

At this time of daylight, Haitang was a little worried about Shi Hu and Dongfang Long, wondering when they would return.

Haitang shook her head and began to weave something. A cold wind blew into the room, making everyone shiver. Haitang then led her younger sisters to weave things with the grass.

Then they wove it into a mat and started covering it directly. "Sister, the wind is much less now." The little thatched hut was terribly cold from the wind.

Haitang looked at the children, especially Xiaohe, whose face was pale from the cold wind. Haitang wouldn't let her get off the bed; she just stayed on the bed, covered with a quilt as a mat.

After several mats were woven, Haitang placed another one not far away. Although the room wasn't very warm, it was much better than before.

After checking the weather, Haitang decided to cook. "Sister...we're not hungry." Haitang looked at the children, and Xingxing and Yueyue all nodded.

"Yes, sister, we're not hungry. We'll cook when Daddy comes back later." Haitang looked at the children and sighed.

Xingxing, Yueyue, and Xiaohe were all thinking that since they weren't doing anything, eating would be a waste, so they decided to save food. But that's not how you save food.

"Don't worry, there won't be any problems. Sister is cooking sweet potato noodles..." Haitang said, then cautiously shook her head upon hearing this.

"Sister, no need, let's sit down." Winter is very long, and there's not much meat in the house. Haitang looked at the children and felt terribly helpless.

But she still took the bones and cooked them. "Children need to eat more so they can transform into beasts." Haitang looked at Xingxing and Yueyue and said, "Also, if Xiaohe doesn't eat, she will be unwell and unable to work, which will also result in losses."

"So you have to eat." Haitang went to cook, making broth with bones and cooking sweet potato noodles. The children ate, and Haitang looked at the blizzard outside, feeling somewhat worried.

Yueyue got up and took off the fur coat. "Yueyue, what are you doing?" Haitang immediately asked.

"Shovel this snow away, otherwise it will come into the room. Sister, you stay in the room." Upon hearing this, Haitang looked at Yueyue, and Haitang's hands trembled from the cold.

In this world, the temperature is below zero right now, and even your breath freezes. Yueyue started shoveling snow right away, and Xingxing went out too.

"Sister, don't go out." Right now, the kitchen is connected to the room, providing a sheltered place from the wind, but if Haitang goes out to shovel snow, she'll definitely get cold.

Xiaohe knew perfectly well that females would get sick if they went out in this situation, but it was different for beastmen.

Even though the two younger brothers are children, they are stronger than the female.

Haitang felt a pang of heartache seeing how well-behaved the child was, but she couldn't stop her. Instead, she went to the kitchen to make ginger soup. Haitang made a bowl of ginger soup for Xiaohe, who looked a little pale.

"Are you still cold?" Haitang asked Xiaohe. Xiaohe shook her head. Haitang reached out and touched her body. "Your body is as cold as water."

Xiaohe's mother left after giving birth to her, and Xiaohe was raised by her father. The problem is that her father is currently only concerned with feeding her and neglects her care. The abuse from her stepmother has made Xiaohe's body even weaker.

In previous years, winters were better because there was more meat available, but now it's pitifully scarce. Even though Haitang tries her best to improve the nutrition, the deficit can't be recovered in an instant. Every year, Xiaohe gets sick, and it's almost always a matter of life and death.

Last year, Xiaohe almost didn't make it through. It was Shihu's deep love for his daughter, and the fact that Shihu rarely went out at that time, so Haitang would hold her younger sister to keep Xiaohe warm, which helped Xiaohe pull through.

Haitang gave Xiaohe ginger soup, then wrapped her in a blanket. They waited for the snow outside to fall and for Xingxing and Yueyue to come in. Haitang then immediately gave both of them ginger soup.

"It's a bit bitter," Xingxingyue said when she looked at Haitang, but she still obediently drank it. Haitang used the fur to wipe the children's cheeks clean.

"Go to bed and squeeze in with your sister." Looking at Xingxing and Yueyue, Haitang said. Xingxing and Yueyue nodded and sat down next to their sister, while Haitang looked outside.
