The drought continues, and many tribes are facing food shortages. The coal mines have food, but not much. The bare minimum is just one meal a day, consisting of steamed buns and noodles for breakfast.
Looking into the distance, Haitang felt a mix of emotions. With no food available, she had no choice but to reduce her food supplies, even though the tribe still had some.
Problem Begonia knew very well that even if the tribe had a lot of food, sending too much back and forth would easily attract attention from others. Of course, it wasn't just about being targeted; there were many other troubles involved.
Many people were working in the coal mine, and after hesitating about what to eat, Haitang decided to try other methods. With the forests dry, there was almost no food left.
The coal mine was better than other places. Even orcs would go hungry in other places, but there was food here. In that respect, it was much better than other tribes.
Haitang went into the woods and dug up some yams and other things to roast and eat. "Are these all edible?" someone hesitated.
“Yes, our tiger tribe eats it.” Upon hearing this, the female immediately began digging. These days, females aren’t stupid when it comes to food; they know to bring back what they find.
Although the coal mine still has a lot of grain, the problem is that given the current weather and season, it's terrifying to look at, because... we don't know how long it will dry up.
What if it takes about a year? If it takes a year or two, then almost everyone will just have to wait to die. Those who don't want to wait to die will have no choice but to try to live.
Food is the most precious thing. Right now, noodles with soup are the best and most filling meal. Of course, you have to eat some meat for lunch. If you don't eat meat, neither the orcs nor the humans will be able to handle it.
When Haitang returned, she started roasting yams. The humans also finished their work, and many of the females began cooking. Fox Wolf sat next to Fox Flower and asked, "Are we going to run out of food?"
"No, the food can last for a few more days." Fox Flower said when she heard this. Fox Wolf nodded and looked at the distance with some worry.
The food can last for a few days, but what about after that? It all makes one feel uneasy. Looking at Haitang sitting not far away, "This coal mine should be closed by now, but Haitang doesn't want to."
"Shutting it down sounds nice, but if it's shut down, eight or nine out of ten of those people won't survive." Human lives are inherently cheap, and without coal mines, most of them will just wait to die. Of course, some will return to the wolf tribe, but what will happen to them after returning to the wolf tribe is something many people know very well.
Upon hearing this, Fox Wolf sighed but nodded and began to eat. "I just hope this drought will end soon. If it continues like this, I don't know if we can hold on."
"Who doesn't want the drought to end soon? I don't know how the children in the Tiger Tribe are doing?" Although someone went to check on them, it was only a verbal account from others, and Fox Flower was still very worried.
Fox Wolf and the others ate and went back to work. The sun in the sky was like an oven, making everyone's faces covered in sweat. Haitang had also gotten quite tanned these days. Although she wasn't quite as dark as charcoal, she still looked somewhat dark.
Compared to the beginning, Haitang's beauty has diminished considerably, but she doesn't care much about it. In the current situation, who cares about their appearance? Survival is the most important thing.
The coal mining is still ongoing. The Black Bear clan has also gone hunting, but they have difficulty finding prey even after digging three feet into the ground. Fortunately, they have a cooperative relationship with the Begonia clan, so they can barely keep their stomachs from going hungry.
Even so, the Black Bear Clan was also worried about how long the Tiger Clan would continue to work there. Once everyone left, the Tiger Clan would no longer need to cooperate with the Black Bear Clan, and what would become of the Black Bear Clan's food then?
Drought can kill many people. Some people even eat tree bark. Given that tree bark is edible, how can orcs have any pity for humans? They are not even the same species.
The people on Haitang's side heard commotion outside at night, and all the beastmen immediately got up. It turned out that beastmen from other tribes had joined forces to demand that they hand over their race.
"You'd better hand over your race. We don't need many, just give us twenty," said the orcs standing not far away. When they heard this, Qiao Ming's gaze turned somewhat cold.
With twenty people mentioned, the intention is obvious: the people being taken away are likely food, even though Qiao Ming is unwilling to clash with other orcs over this race.
However, they are not pushovers. "The race is our property. If you want it, you have to exchange it for food." The race is currently working for the tribe, and once this starts, the chain reaction will be very bad.
Qiao Ming was also an educated person, and he knew very well that the relationship between the Tiger Tribe and the human race was hard-won. If they betrayed the human race at this critical juncture, how could the human race trust the Tiger Tribe?
Although the people in this coal mine weren't exactly part of the Tiger Clan, they weren't about to back down. Hearing this, the orc not far away looked displeased. "Then don't blame us for being impolite..."
