Chapter 4 Sweet Potato

"This..." Upon hearing this, Shi Shui looked at Hai Tang. Hai Tang put it down and left. Shi Shui carried the fish soup inside, and Shi Shui's wife, Xiu Xiu, saw this.

"What's wrong? Did they come to borrow something from you? Don't be silly, let me tell you, if we starve to death, I'll fight you to the death," Xiuxiu said.

"No, I brought you fish soup." Xiuxiu frowned when she heard this.

"No, this stuff tastes awful." Xiuxiu immediately refused. Shishui shook his head, not offering her any, and decided to drink it all himself.

It's still grain, after all. This one was about the size of a perforated bowl. His eyes lit up when he took a sip, "Wife, have a drink..."

Xiuxiu frowned. It didn't smell fishy. "Take a sip. Don't you believe me?"

Upon hearing this, Xiuxiu still took a sip. "It's really good, this fish doesn't taste like dirt..." she said, then downed the rest in one gulp. "Why did you drink so much just now?"

The fish soup was delicious, the fish bones had been removed, and the addition of tart fruit made it even more palatable.

"Go get me another bowl." Shi Shui frowned when he heard this.

“I’m carrying your child, and you don’t even feed me properly. I haven’t been able to eat anything these days. Go catch a few fish in the water and have her… have her cook them for me.” Xiu Xiu said, looking at Shi Shui.

"Okay, I'll go catch some." The weather is fine now, catching fish will be a piece of cake. Haitang has already cooked the turtle soup, so she just brought it in with the shell pot.

"It smells so good, sister, what is this?" the children asked as they looked at it.

"This is turtle soup. You should only drink a small sip. It's good for Father's injury. In a few days, I'll catch another turtle for you to drink," Haitang said. It's true that children shouldn't be over-nourished, but the problem is, in this era...

It's good that they can eat more right now, especially these two boys, who are the offspring of beastmen. If they are malnourished now, it will be difficult for them to develop their beastly nature in the future.

Haitang still wants to store food. "Haitang..." Hearing someone calling her from outside, Haitang was stunned for a moment. "Big brother... are you eating? Haitang, your aunt wants to eat fish soup. Can you make me a fish? I even brought the pot and salt."

Xiuxiu is a few months pregnant and feels nauseous no matter what she eats. Haitang wants to eat the fish soup that's currently on her mind, and of course he won't refuse, since fish are the easiest to catch.

Hearing this, Haitang nodded, "Okay, but Uncle, I need to go to the river to clean it up." Upon hearing this, Shishui looked outside.

"I'll go with you." There might be wild animals outside at this time, so he took Haitang with him. Haitang was cleaned and then brought back to cook. After the food was ready, Haitang had Shishui take it back.

Shi Shui brought five fish. Hai Tang cooked two of them, and the rest were given to her by Shi Shui. Hai Tang didn't refuse and immediately made soup with the fish that night so she could drink some the next day.

After tidying up, Haitang and the others went to sleep. Haitang felt a toothache, but there was nothing she could do. There was no salt at the moment, so how could she brush her teeth? Besides, the salt that Shishui had brought earlier was just enough.

The next day, Haitang heated up some fish soup and then went out. Shi Hu was sitting in the room, a little worried about his daughter, but he couldn't help her because he couldn't get out of bed yet.

Haitang went to the other side to find food today. Haitang squatted down and said, "These sweet potato leaves." Haitang was a little surprised when she saw the sweet potato leaves.

They immediately started digging. A few females approached from a distance and, seeing Haitang, said, "Haitang, let's go pick some wild fruit, do you want to come?"

"No." Haitang shook her head. She followed the others to trample on wild fruits, but those wild fruits were not enough to fill her stomach. Under these circumstances, Haitang preferred to find them herself, so she did not go too far.

It should be said that she didn't go as far as the females, but even so, with such abundant forests, she could still find quite a few good things.

Haitang started digging with branches. Upon finding the sweet potato, she saw, "[Sweet potato found! Host, keep up the good work! With a few more items, you can unlock the mission.]"

Haitang pouted and completely ignored the other person. After the sweet potato was dug out, Haitang was overjoyed. "This is great!" The sweet potato was actually the size of a watermelon. Haitang felt like she had found a treasure.

But thinking about how little my child eats, I felt a little guilty, so I brought those things back myself. If I hadn't made soup, they wouldn't have been full at all.

Now that I have sweet potatoes, I can make all sorts of delicious things, like dried sweet potatoes, sweet potato noodles, and so on. Just thinking about it makes me feel like I've reached the pinnacle of life.

Haitang dug it out directly without breaking the vine. Haitang wanted to weave a basket, a craft she had learned before. She had a lot of time as a food vlogger, so after she stopped using her medical skills, she started learning all sorts of interesting things.

She knew how to make a bamboo basket, but she didn't have any bamboo. However, she could choose to weave one out of this grass. Under these circumstances, Haitang simply carried a few sweet potatoes back home.

Haitang hugged three this time, "Sister, do you still want to go?"

"Yes, there are quite a few, and I plan to bring them all back," Haitang said. Upon hearing this, Xingxing and Yueyue immediately ran out.

"Sister, I'll go with you to hug her." Haitang was slightly taken aback, but still agreed.

Don't underestimate these two little kids; they're just as strong as I am. They carried a big sweet potato all the way back. After carrying it back, Haitang went to check if there were any fish that day.

I didn't catch any today, but I still plan to make some wild vegetable soup and then boil some sweet potatoes.

"Is this edible?" Shi Hu asked, looking at the sweet potatoes that Haitang had brought back.

“Yes, this will be enough to fill you up, Father. Don’t worry, I saw that some of the small animals are eating it and they are all fine,” Haitang said, and Shi Hu nodded in agreement.

When he was able to work, he never imagined he would end up like this, with his children struggling to make ends meet.

Haitang didn't find it hard work. She simply cut the sweet potato open and started boiling it in water. Unexpectedly, Shishui came again and gave Haitang a fish. Then she took the remaining fish back to make soup.

When Haitang looked at it, the fish was already cleaned, so she simply put it aside. After the sweet potatoes were cooked, she wrapped them in the large leaves and had Xingxing and Yueyue take them inside.

Haitang was simmering soup. Once it was ready, she took it inside and started serving it to her family.

“It’s delicious, sister. You can eat this. I’ll go dig some with Xingxing tomorrow, so you won’t have to work so hard,” Xingxing said.
