Chapter 101 Benben's Choice

After entering the bedroom, Lin Momo put Benben on the carpet and went to the dressing room to change into a slip dress.

Then, I sat in front of the vanity and began my skincare routine.

The weather in the north is particularly dry in winter. The mountains are covered with vegetation, which adds more moisture than outside, but the mountain winds are very strong, and exposed skin is prone to chapped skin.

In the past, Lin Erya did rough work all day long. She had neither the awareness nor the means to take care of her skin. Even though she was young, her skin had lost the luster and moisture that should be present at her age.

Lin Momo doesn't want to age prematurely, so she has to take care of herself.

First, moisturize your skin with diluted glycerin, then apply a layer of moisturizing face cream, making sure to apply it to your hands and feet as well.

This simple care is sufficient.

Lin Momo, whose eyelids were already starting to droop, still insisted on making a nest out of Benben's bath towel, putting it inside, before climbing into bed to sleep.

When she was stocking up on supplies, Lin Momo didn't expect that she would keep a pet, so she didn't prepare things like cat litter.

If Benben needs to relieve himself at night, it's easier to clean up if he poops in a bath towel than on the carpet.

Although she was also reluctant to part with the bath towel, she chose the lesser of two evils.

She'll just make do for one night for now, and tomorrow she'll clean out the outer room and let Benben sleep there.

I got up early in the morning.

Lin Momo didn't rush to clean the house, but instead strolled around her little territory as if surveying her own domain.

Benben, who had officially acknowledged his master, dragged his injured leg, wagged his tail, and dutifully followed closely by his master's side.

Upon reaching the backyard, Lin Momo made another discovery.

Surprisingly, there was a naturally formed cave in the center of the horseshoe-shaped cliff.

Like the houses in front, this cave faces south.

The upper part of the cave is arched, and a stone wall is built around the entrance, which is about ten meters wide. There is a door and three windows.

I pushed open the door and entered—whoa!

The cave was surprisingly spacious.

It is about 5 meters high and 10 meters wide; the depth is slightly shallower, about 5 meters. Looking around, one can see that the top, left, right and back walls all have traces of human chiseling.

It seems that this cave has been renovated to its current size.

This space has also been furnished as a house, simply divided into a study, hall, and bedroom by floor-to-ceiling screens, display cabinets, and bookshelves.

The room was fully furnished, but the bookshelves and display cabinets were empty, with few books and ornaments remaining.

Dust was everywhere. Lin silently left a few footprints on the ground and came out.

The climate here is mild in winter and cool in summer, making it a perfect place to escape the heat and hibernate.

However, she doesn't have time to clean up the place right now.

There's another yard ahead waiting for her to tidy up.

After leaving this place, Lin walked eastward for about thirty or fifty steps and wandered to the mountain spring where he had only heard its sound yesterday.

A spring the size of a washbasin gushed forth from a height of three to five feet above the rock face, leaping into a small stone pool below, and then cascading down the cliff along the carved-out ditch.

The pool water was exceptionally clear, and the fish and pebbles in it were clearly visible. It seemed very shallow, but Lin Momo knew that the deeper and more unfathomable the water was.

This was the first time she had ever seen a real mountain spring.

Faced with such a clear pool of water, she couldn't help but feel playful like a child. She squatted down by the pool, scooped up a handful of spring water with both hands, and took a sip.

I thought the mountain spring in winter would be colder than the one in summer, but it turns out that's not the case at all.

This spring water seems to gush from underground; it is slightly warm to the touch and quite sweet to the taste, making it excellent water for brewing tea.

Lin Momo was overjoyed, feeling that she was in for a treat, as she could now use spring water to brew tea every day.

Fortunately, she had the foresight to buy so much good tea. Good tea with good water is truly a heavenly experience.

Unfortunately, such fine tea and water cannot be shared with time.

This was one of the greatest regrets in Lin Momo's life.

The owner was feeling sad when suddenly Benben came running over with an egg in his mouth, showing it off to her.

Lin Momo's disappointment vanished instantly, replaced by a delightful surprise upon seeing the eggs:

"Silly boy, where did you find this egg?"

She hadn't approved of Benben running around before it was properly cared for, but just now, without her watching it for a moment, it suddenly darted into the grass outside the fence to relieve itself.

Lin Momo's worries about needing to use the restroom didn't happen last night; Benben probably had been holding it in for ages.

Sure enough, as soon as he came out of the space, he went to deal with the most important matter.

When it came back from using the toilet, the bandage on its injured leg was filthy.

Lin Momo also figured it out. Dogs are naturally active, and she was busy today and couldn't keep a close eye on it, so she simply let it be.

I applied medicine to both sides and put on thick bandages. As long as the wound doesn't get wet, it shouldn't be a big problem.

Benben's injury hasn't healed yet, but he's already thinking about scavenging things around the house.

What a good dog!

Lin Momo happily took the egg out of its mouth and examined it in her hand.

Judging from the color and size of the eggshell, it seemed to be a wild egg, which made me wonder:

"Could there be pheasants in the yard?"

Before she could think any further, Benben twisted his body and ran away again.

"Silly, where are you going?"

Lin silently clutched the egg, got up, and chased after it.

Judging by its urgency, you could easily guess that it's probably going to look for eggs again.

Based on Lin Momo's experience of collecting wild eggs, there is definitely more than one egg in a pheasant's nest.

This little rascal still has an injury on his leg, we can't let him carry it back one by one like this, it's too much trouble!

Besides, Benben has never brushed its teeth, so its mouth is full of bacteria. The eggs it picks up with its mouth can only be eaten by itself.

With this in mind, Lin Momo made a decision in her heart:

"Yes, once the house is cleaned up, I'll make sure to brush its teeth at least once a day."

In these deep mountains, if she gets a headache or fever, there's nowhere to see a doctor, so it's best to be careful.

Following Benben to a patch of weeds, they found a dozen or so wild eggs of varying shades hidden inside. Lin Momo took out a small bamboo basket from her spatial storage and happily picked up the eggs from the ground.

They didn't finish collecting them all; they left three eggs in the grass nest and noted the location.

This way, the mother hen will come here to lay eggs, and she will have a continuous supply of wild eggs to eat.

Seeing its owner pick up the eggs, Benben twitched its extremely sensitive nose and ran off in another direction.

Overjoyed, Lin Momo quickly followed and, sure enough, found another nest of wild eggs.

One morning, a man and his dog collected half a basket of wild eggs.

Lin Momo was overjoyed.

However, she wasn't blinded by the abundance of eggs, knowing that as the temperature in the mountains dropped, she probably wouldn't have such good luck again.
