Chapter 144 Turning the soil, eating hot pot in the snow

Dinner was served rather late that day, not until eight o'clock, but Lin Momo and Shiguang ate very well.

The two little wolves, Benben and Xiaolangzai, were having a great time fighting over the meat, as if they couldn't get enough of it.

As the saying goes, good food is worth waiting for.

It's worth it if it tastes good.

That night, Lin Momo and Shiguang chopped firewood in the yard to aid digestion, and didn't go back to the house to sleep until eleven o'clock.

The next day.

After breakfast, Shiguang was about to chop wood when Lin Momo stopped him:

"Let's not rush to chop. Before it freezes, let's prepare the land for planting next spring."

"What, you've started organizing so early?" Shi Guang looked surprised.

"Yes!"

Lin Momo pointed to the wasteland outside the fenced yard and explained to him with a smile, "Look, this land is no different from wasteland. Let's mark out the area where we want to plant first."

"Then burn the withered grass and seeds on top, and turn the soil over. After a winter, the insect eggs in the soil will be frozen to death."

"When spring comes next year, we can start planting right away."

Lin Momo comes from a farming family, so farming is a family tradition.

Although she has lived in the city ever since she left the countryside and hasn't farmed for many years, this is a hidden skill she possesses.

At this moment, facing this land, her hidden skill instantly awakened.

"Okay, I'll follow your instructions."

When it comes to farming, it inevitably touches on a blind spot in our knowledge of time, so naturally we should listen to the advice of experienced people.

Moreover, Lin Momo's explanation made a lot of sense to him.

So for the next two days, the two of them struggled with the two patches of wasteland outside the fenced yard.

Day 1.

First, mark out the two acres of land to be planted next year and burn off the weeds on it.

This was the couple's first time farming, and after careful discussion, they decided to start with two acres as a trial run. They marked out one acre on each side of the road outside the fenced yard.

In order to prevent the entire patch of dry grass from being burned, a firebreak must be dug out before burning the wasteland.

Just digging this up took the two of them a whole day, their backsides sticking out as they worked up a heavy load.

The next day.

They started burning the wasteland.

Before setting it on fire, Lin Momo took out the water hose she had used to water the vegetables and connected it to the spring water so that she could immediately spray water to extinguish the fire if it got out of control.

The preparations were so thorough that even Shi Guang couldn't help but give her a thumbs up.

This made Lin Momo feel a little embarrassed.

After finishing, Lin Momo felt that wood ash alone was not enough fertilizer, so she started thinking about the humus in the woods.

So they pulled Time out of the valley and headed straight for that forest.

Each of them had a rake in hand. They first cleared away the dead leaves on the ground that hadn't yet rotted, and then Lin silently collected the top layer of humus into the space.

Return to the valley and sprinkle evenly on the wood ash.

I only had to make two trips in the morning to get it done.

In the afternoon, when the soil was turned over, it was time to put in the work.

Since there were no livestock, the land could only be tilled by manpower.

Just as Shi Guang was wondering what kind of soil-turning tool Lin Momo would take out, wondering if it would be some kind of machine again.

I saw a wheeled plow pulled by a person.

This is a human-pulled plow that Lin Momo bought after comparing many options online. It's designed to plow the soil deeply.

People in ancient times also pulled plows, but none were as lightweight and easy to use as this one.

Shi Guang tried it out and didn't find it strenuous. As a result, he turned over both plots of land in one afternoon.

Of course, Lin Momo wasn't idle either, following behind Shi Guang and picking up the stones that had been turned over.

With that, the land to be planted next spring was finally prepared before the ground froze.

*

The winter winds are dry, and after three days of wind, many of the branches spread out in the yard have dried out.

So, the preparation for chopping firewood began with chopping these branches.

In the fenced yard.

Time, wielding an axe, swung its arms and chopped wood.

Lin Momo then neatly arranged the chopped firewood in the woodshed and let it air dry slowly.

After only two days of snowfall, the overcast sky finally gave way and began to snow silently at night.

When Lin Momo woke up in the morning, she felt that the room was brighter than usual and the temperature had dropped.

I ran to the bedside and looked outside, only to find that it was snowing.

The outside world was a vast expanse of white, transformed into a world draped in silver, with snow still falling heavily.

Lin Momo immediately became excited.

Watching the heavy snow fall felt like finally welcoming a long-awaited holiday, and I felt inexplicably relaxed and comfortable.

The first thought that popped into her head was: "Let's have hot pot for lunch today!"

The pheasant soup from last time is still unfinished, and there's also some beef bone soup left over from before.

Beef bone broth can be used as a spicy hot pot base, and chicken broth can be used as a mushroom hot pot base, so that both her and Shiguang's tastes can be taken into account.

Okay, it's decided then!

I haven't even had breakfast yet, and I've already decided what to have for lunch.

If Shi Guang knew, he would laugh at his wife again, but despite the laughter, he always firmly supported her decisions.

On a snowy day like this, Shi Guang still got up early and went to the peach grove to practice his martial arts.

Lin Momo said that she couldn't let him outdo her.

He quickly put on his cotton-padded clothes, washed up, and went outside to continue practicing standing meditation.

After standing for several days, she can now hold the position for longer. With the training showing initial results, her enthusiasm has naturally only increased.

Shi Guang thought she wouldn't last more than a few days before giving up again, but this time things turned out differently than he expected.
