Chapter 33 The War Between Man and Rat

Let's get right to it.

Next, Lin Momo began to look for medicinal herbs.

Speaking of which, the mountain is full of medicinal herbs, and almost every plant that catches the eye can be used as medicine. Unfortunately, Lin Momo, being a layman, does not recognize most of them.

She couldn't help but sigh, thinking to herself how wonderful it would be to have a book of illustrated herbs.

The longer Lin Momo searched, the more discouraged she became, feeling like she was looking for a needle in a haystack.

Moreover, she suddenly remembered watching a video about growing Gastrodia elata, which said it had to be planted on a mountain at an altitude of 1,000 meters. The altitude here was no more than 100 meters, so it was no wonder she couldn't find it.

Lin Momo didn't find any medicinal herbs, but something hit her on the head. Rubbing the sore spot, she looked up and saw it was a chestnut tree, and couldn't help but laugh.

Whether it's medicinal herbs or mountain products, she feels her trip was worthwhile as long as she makes a good purchase.

This place seems to have been untouched by villagers; there are still quite a few spiky balls hanging on the trees, and a layer of thorns has fallen on the ground.

Lin Momo immediately decided to collect the chestnuts from the tree and used her spatial collection technique.

In less than a minute, he had gathered all the chestnuts off the ground. He had also collected the chestnuts from the lower branches of the tree, leaving only the chestnuts high in the canopy swaying slightly in the morning breeze, seemingly mocking Lin for being unable to do anything about them.

Can Lin Momo tolerate this?

Of course we can't tolerate this!

She gritted her teeth and glared as she unloaded her burdens, took a few steps to hug the tree trunk, and climbed up using both her hands and feet.

Despite being malnourished, this body was very strong, much stronger than her good-for-nothing older brother. In just a few breaths, she climbed more than two meters high.

Lin Mo looked down and immediately saw the basket and bamboo cage she had left on the grass, lying there sprawled out. She felt inexplicably relieved.

Suddenly, she remembered Lin Zhiqiang's cowardly appearance just now. He hadn't even climbed as high as her, yet he was so scared.

Maybe he has a fear of heights.

After climbing another meter, Lin Momo began to concentrate her mind and collect the fruits from the higher place. Sure enough, she collected quite a few more into her space, piling them all on the cement ground under the eaves.

After finishing her work, she climbed down from the tree.

After looking around under the trees, I finally selected two chestnut saplings, loosened the soil around their roots with a shovel, and successfully put them into my space.

Soon after, Lin Momo came across a pine forest, and her eyes lit up.

When people mention pine trees, they usually think of pine nuts and the precious and delicious matsutake mushrooms.

But few people know that Poria cocos also grows in pine forests.

This forest seems to be quite large; there must be something inside.

Lin Momo ran into the pine forest like a gust of wind, picked up a pine cone from the ground, and poked out the seeds inside. She then exclaimed with delight, "Ah, there really are pine nuts! I can finally be free to eat pine nuts!"

First, sweep away all the pine cones on the ground and store them in your space.

She didn't care whether the pine nuts inside were still there or not; they could be used as firewood in the winter anyway.

The trees nearby looked like they had already been pine coneed; there weren't many pine cones left. Lin silently collected the remaining pine cones from the ground and the trees as she walked into the woods.

Pine nuts were not very valuable in ancient times, and both harvesting and eating them was quite laborious.

People just collect some to take back as snacks for their children; they don't treat it like other mountain products, picking them all until they see them.

Therefore, apart from squirrels that love pine nuts, almost no one comes into the pine trees growing inside.

As soon as Lin Momo entered, she spotted several plump squirrels with glossy, yellowish-brown fur that made her want to reach out and pet them.

Upon seeing someone intrude into their territory and compete for food, some timid creatures would dart away and disappear in an instant, while the bolder ones would glare at Lin Momo, and the more aggressive ones would even bare their teeth at her.

"So cute!" Lin Momo muttered with a smile, then decisively tossed the pine cone in her hand at him. "Little thing, let me teach you how to glare at me!"

The little creature was so frightened that it ran away with its head in its hands.

Lin, standing under the tree, watched and burst into laughter.

She hadn't even laughed a few times when a pine cone hit her, making her cry out "Ouch!"

She turned her head to see which little thing had hit her.

Then another pine cone came flying at us.

"Oh no! I've disturbed a squirrel's nest!" She quickly covered her head and ran to another spot, but pine cones continued to be thrown at her.

The next moment, she simply vanished from the spot.

Once inside the space, Lin Momo said angrily, "Little thing, why are you so vengeful? Let's wait and see how things develop."

She was hungry after a busy morning.

He used a gourd ladle to scoop up some warm water that had been stored in the earthenware pot beforehand, washed his hands, grabbed a large meat bun, and started eating it.

Lin Momo was enjoying her meal, while the little squirrels in the pine forest were stunned, looking at each other and chirping amongst themselves.

Where are they?

"Yes, yes! How could it just disappear?"

"You guys went way too far! Look, you've smashed the person so badly they're gone!"

"Hmph! It's not that I hit hard; you were throwing it even more enthusiastically than I was!"

"What should we do?"

"Yeah! Have we gotten ourselves into trouble?"

"Quiet, quiet! Let's wait and see if she shows up." An older pine tree jumped out to calm things down, then warned, "If she shows up later, you can't hit her anymore!"

"Okay, okay!"

"Don't worry, Elder, we promise we won't smash anything!"

......

When Lin Momo came out after finishing a steamed bun, she still had her little basket on her head. After realizing that the crisis was over, she carefully lifted the basket and peeked out to look around at the situation in the woods.

The squirrels were still in the pine tree, they hadn't left, but they didn't attack her anymore either, they just stared at her blankly, which was a little creepy.

However, once they quieted down, Lin Momo felt relieved.

She has important business to attend to and doesn't have time to deal with these little things.

Only then did she realize something was a little uncomfortable under her foot. She felt like she had stepped on something. She moved her foot away and exclaimed, "Ah!"

Lin Momo was so heartbroken she could hardly breathe. Her muddy, worn-out shoes had stepped on a precious matsutake mushroom, and she had even kicked over one right next to it! Good heavens! This mushroom could sell for forty or fifty yuan a pound!

"What a waste!" Lin cried out in despair.

Matsutake mushrooms can grow year-round as long as the humidity and temperature are suitable, and they are easy to identify, resembling a chubby little guy with a black hat on his head and a white coat.

This grove seems to be sparsely populated; there must still be quite a few people here.

Lin Momo didn't care about feeling sorry for herself and hurriedly started searching around.

Looking around, one can indeed see the "little chubby ones" everywhere among the withered pine needles, interspersed with small porcini mushrooms, chanterelles, termite mushrooms, and other miscellaneous fungi that I don't recognize. It seems that there are still many hidden under the withered pine needles that haven't sprouted yet.
