Chapter 65 Buying a Car

Some people say that traveling together can strengthen the bond between lovers.

Lin Momo felt that there was some truth to what was said.

This trip further strengthened her connection with time.

Deep down, Lin Momo also enjoyed having him by her side.

But I also felt that I couldn't be so selfish.

Letting him return to his original life is the wisest choice.

Just as Lin Momo was about to discuss this topic with Shi Guang, he went out alone for a short while and then returned in a brand new car.

Although it can't compare to the luxury cars he used to drive, it's still not something that ordinary people can afford, even from the perspective of the average person.

It was obviously newly bought by him.

Lin Momo, who had been pulled downstairs by him, asked him angrily, "You, why did you buy a car? Are you still going back to Haishi?"

She had just been about to kick him out when he pulled this stunt on her.

Is this guy just trying to mess with her?

As if he hadn't noticed Lin Momo's sullen expression, Shi Guang smiled and pushed her into the passenger seat, slammed the door shut, and then got in himself.

As she started the car, she pursed her lips and said, "You're not coming back to Haishi with me, so what am I going to do going back alone? We've been to quite a few places these past two days, and I think this place is pretty good too. I might as well stay and keep you company."

Buckle up, I'll take you for a ride.

Before he finished speaking, the car started moving.

Hearing him say that, Lin Momo would be lying if she said she was unhappy.

But as happy as she was, she knew very well that this was simply unrealistic.

However, she didn't say anything more.

I was just thinking to myself, your family is so eager for you to come home, they'd practically beg you to come back with twelve imperial edicts. I'd like to see how long you can hold out.

Meanwhile, Shi Guang continued, "Having a car makes it easier to go anywhere. Aren't you going back to your hometown? Let's just drive back. We can stop whenever we want to buy something along the way. Isn't that great!"

These past two days, the two of them have been taking the subway or squeezing onto buses, which Shi Guang has found very inconvenient. Since he has decided not to travel for the time being, he should hurry up and buy a car to get around.

People who are used to driving feel like they've lost their legs when they don't have a car; it's inconvenient to go anywhere without one.

People who have never driven a car can hardly understand this.

Although Lin Momo didn't quite understand, she knew that having a car would indeed be much more convenient: "It's good. But if you're going to buy one, buy a used one, or rent one first. Anyway, you won't be staying here for long, and you can't drive the car back to Haishi. Even if you want to sell it, it won't be easy to get rid of it quickly."

"How about I teach you to drive? Then you can drive wherever you want to go. Especially if you want to live in the countryside, it will be more convenient to have a car," Shi Guang suddenly suggested.

Lin Momo blinked, and for a moment she was genuinely tempted.

Although this skill is practically useless in ancient times, it's still a skill, and who knows when she'll time travel, so she might as well learn it first.

Although there are buses from the countryside to the county seat and city, there are few buses, and if you miss one, you have to wait a long time. In addition, the buses are crowded and it is inconvenient to carry things. It is not as convenient as driving.

Once she learned to drive, it became much easier for her to go shopping.

In recent years, with the improvement of living standards, almost every family in the village has bought a car. It's not conspicuous for an orphan to drive a car, and it won't arouse jealousy or criticism from others.

Seeing that Lin Momo was interested, Shi Guang couldn't help but reveal a smug smile.

He thought to himself, "Finally, I've diverted this girl's attention."

The car turned onto a quiet section of road. Shi Guang slowed down and stopped by the roadside, explaining in detail to Lin Momo the various devices inside the car and the precautions for driving.

Then she switched places with Lin Momo, allowing her to practice.

To learn to drive, the two stayed in the city for a few more days.

Lin Momo has some talent for driving; after a few days of learning, she can drive very well.

Shi Guang was quite surprised and couldn't help but ask her, "Did you learn to drive before?"

Lin Momo was quite satisfied with her performance and even wanted to sign up for a driver's license test right away, but she quickly put an end to that crazy idea.

I've decided to practice for a while longer, until my hands and feet develop muscle memory and I'm more familiar with the traffic rules, before taking the test. I'll try to pass on the first try.

Anyway, no one checks driver's licenses in the countryside, so it doesn't affect her driving out.

On the highway back to his hometown, Shi Guang received another call from Hai Shi.

This time it wasn't his parents, but Xu Qingya.

Lin Momo, sitting in the passenger seat, was in a rather awkward position. There was only so much space in the car, and she had nowhere to hide, so she was forced to listen to the whole thing.

A gentle voice came from the other end of the phone: "Shiguang, your aunt said you'll be returning to Haishi in the next couple of days. What day did you book your flight? I'll pick you up from the airport."

"I'm not going back for now."

"Huh? You're not coming back?!"

"What about the engagement? Both our parents are preparing for it."

Time had already anticipated this outcome.

But when his suspicions were confirmed, he still felt inexplicably angry and absurd. His parents didn't respect his opinion at all about his own marriage.

I couldn't help but take a deep breath.

Lin Momo, who was standing next to him, noticed his unusual behavior and felt a pang of heartache. She subconsciously touched his hand, which was resting on the gear shift, hoping to bring him some comfort.

The next moment, the large hand flipped upwards and tightly grasped Lin Momo's small hand.

Feeling comforted, Shi Guang subconsciously turned to look at Lin Momo, then said to Xu Qingya on the other end of the phone, "Qingya, do you know why I didn't go to study in England four years ago?"

He felt that he had made his attitude toward the marriage very clear, but it seemed that neither his parents nor Xu's parents saw it and were pretending to be stupid.

Or perhaps they only see the benefits involved and don't care about his attitude at all.

In this matter, he was merely a puppet, someone they could manipulate at will.

But he refused.

"Didn't you go to join the army?" After a moment of silence, the other end slowly uttered a sentence.

Another one pretending to be stupid.

Time bluntly shattered her illusions: "I believe you know the reason why, so I don't need to explain it again, right? Therefore, there will be no engagement between us."

This might sound hurtful, but the truth can be quite hurtful.

Only the truth can make people recognize reality and turn back early, which is better than deceiving themselves.

“But this is something our two families’ parents have already decided!” Xu Qingya was puzzled; how come he hadn’t changed at all over the years?

She was always popular at school and was the white moonlight in the eyes of many boys. Why was he so unpopular with her?
