Chapter 94 Riding a Bike at Night

After finishing her meal, Lin Momo had recovered and got up to wash the dishes. Then she remembered that she needed to feed the brooding hen.

Before she even entered the chicken coop, she heard a series of soft chirping sounds.

"The chicks have hatched!"

Lin Momo's face lit up with joy. Her grandmother used to raise about ten chicks every spring, so she knew that voice all too well.

When I ran to the chicken coop, I saw that three chicks had already hatched. The little wild pheasants were fluffy little balls with light brown down, and they were curiously looking at everything around them with their little eyes.

So cute!

The mother hen was still incubating the unhatched eggs, and Lin Momo didn't disturb her. She watched quietly for a while before remembering that she had come over to feed her.

To make feeding easier, the rice bran I bought was placed under the porch.

Lin Momo went over and scooped out half a bowl of rice bran, placing it in front of the mother hen, within easy reach of her craning her neck. She noticed that the water in the other bowl was almost gone as well.

This won't do.

It must be filled up immediately.

After finishing these tasks, Lin Momo looked towards the vegetable garden.

Leafy greens like bok choy and lettuce are almost ready to eat, green beans and cucumbers have already sprouted tendrils and are climbing trellises, and various vegetables such as peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants are all growing well.

The planted fruit tree saplings and spice trees have all survived and are growing vigorously.

The ginseng seedlings in the small plot of medicinal herb field have clearly grown taller and have more leaves.

After admiring the fruits of her labor for a while, Lin Momo returned to the small building in a cheerful mood.

Feeling quite pleased with myself, I thought to myself, "I've eaten and drunk my fill, it's time to take a nap."

But as soon as she stepped onto the stairs leading to the second floor, she actually pulled her foot back and turned to walk towards the backyard.

It wasn't that Lin Momo changed her mind, but rather that she suddenly remembered she hadn't taken a shower since waking up, and how could she go to sleep looking so disheveled?

This was the first time she had slept in her newly decorated bedroom upstairs; she felt she needed to maintain a sense of ritual.

She didn't need to boil water herself; there were two large vats of hot water prepared in advance in the house.

Lin Momo picked up a clean basin and poured hot water into the shower machine repeatedly, then added cold water to adjust it to a suitable temperature before starting to shower.

She took a nice shower, changed into her pajamas, took out the hairdryer she used to have, plugged it into the power bank, and started blowing her hair.

After her hair was dried, Lin Momo yawned and went upstairs to sleep.

Lin Momo was exhausted after getting up early and going on a shopping spree. She still managed to take a shower, which resulted in her falling asleep the moment she lay down on the bed.

I even forgot to set an alarm.

So Lin Momo slept soundly for a long time, and when she woke up, she found that it was already dark outside.

It has to be said that this was exactly what she wanted.

It's better for her to travel when it gets dark.

Besides, it's not pitch black; there's a bright moon in the sky.

Lin Momo took out her treasured modern mode of transportation—a bicycle.

Since it was dark, she didn't care if passersby saw her; she could ride with peace of mind.

Even in ancient times, when there was no light pollution, the moon would be exceptionally bright, but not so bright that it would be too clearly visible. This way, it could conceal her without making her look foolish.

She also has weapons for self-defense. If any reckless fool dares to rush up and try to snatch her, she can take down one if one comes, and two if two come.

Who's afraid of who!

After mentally preparing herself, Lin Momo rode her bicycle onto the official road.

If you were to ask her how she felt?

That is, it's not much different from the feeling of riding a bike on the dirt roads in the countryside.

She's been riding her bike to school since sixth grade, and her cycling skills have been exceptional since childhood. With over twenty years of driving experience, this dirt road is nothing to her.

Therefore, Lin Momo had a great time riding under the moonlight.

At nine o'clock in the evening, the official road was almost deserted.

In just one hour, Lin Momo rode to the vicinity of Linjia Village.

When she went out in the morning, she carefully memorized the route. Not far from the official road leading to Linjia Village, there were two poplar trees that were as thick as a person's embrace. Even at night, she could make out their general shape.

However, when passing through Linjia Village, Lin Momo did not enter but headed directly south.

On the way here, she had been considering whether to go back and ask Lin Sanya if she was willing to go with her.

In that terrible dream, Lin Sanya's ending was tragic. Lin Momo had long ago decided to help her younger sister, but the time was not yet ripe.

Putting aside the fact that she harbors secrets that should not be known to outsiders.

As of now, she hasn't found a reliable place to stay, and Lin Sanya would inevitably suffer a lot if she followed her. Besides, having someone with her would definitely be less convenient than her acting alone.

Time waits for no one.

Lin Momo had to find a suitable place to stay before the snow fell, and didn't have much energy to take care of others.

Before the natural disaster struck, Lin Sanya was safe in the Lin family.

It's not too late to come down the mountain to fetch her after she has established a base there.

After much consideration, Lin Momo decided to simply go into the mountains.

*

The distance from Linjia Village to Nanshan is farther than the distance to the county seat.

Lin Momo rode for two hours to reach the foot of the mountain, taking a break along the way. It was already one o'clock in the morning.

You can travel in the dark, but you absolutely cannot go into the mountains in the dark, unless you're willing to risk your life.

Looking at the dark mountains in front of her, Lin Momo thought about how she could start her new life in the mountains early the next morning, and she was genuinely happy.

Although life in the mountains may be tough and dangerous, in order to avoid natural disasters and wars in the future, and to live a peaceful and carefree life, Lin Momo is willing to try even if it's a dangerous place.

Moreover, she wasn't entirely unprepared.

Lin Momo clenched her fist, gave herself a silent pep talk, and then went into her spatial dimension to rest.

In the early morning, the majestic mountains are shrouded in a thin mist, appearing and disappearing, which inexplicably gives them a touch of ethereal beauty.

Before any of the villagers at the foot of the mountain went up, Lin Momo resolutely set off towards the mountains.

He was still wearing men's short brown trousers that were easy to walk in, and the smallest size hiking boots on his feet, with the trouser legs tucked into the boots, making him look particularly capable.

"Mountains, here I come—"

Lin Momo cupped her hands to her lips and shouted at the top of her lungs.

It's like both greeting the mountain and declaring war on it to some extent.

After shouting, Lin silently avoided the mountain path she had taken last time and chose a less traveled path hidden among the withered grass, heading into the mountains.

Where will this path she chose lead her?

Could there be a quiet valley or basin suitable for her to settle down, or an uninhabited cabin, where she could temporarily spend this cold winter?
