Chapter 17 called her "Mother" (shuhaige.net)

Shen Miao didn't ask for an exorbitant price; she only asked for three wild deer from the snake-beastman.

Compared to the other prey of the snake-beast family, these three wild deer are really nothing.

Even so, the snake-beastman's heart was bleeding. He had originally wanted to extort a penny from Chen Miao, but in the end, he became the one who was extorted.

Three wild deer are enough for them to eat for several meals.

But Shen Miao didn't show any sign of having gotten a great deal when she saw the wild deer. She had someone put the deer at the door, then called out Da Bao, whose eyes were red from crying, and pointed at the deer, saying to Da Bao, "This is meat that the snake beastmen gave to my family as compensation."

Da Bao was in a very low mood, and even the fact that the annoying snake-beastman gave him meat couldn't cheer him up.

“Dabao, listen to me. Today, your mother was able to protect the four of you and get the snake-beastmen to compensate us for our losses. A large part of the reason is because of the help of these uncles, aunts, and grandmas. They helped us, and we should be grateful. Do you understand?” Shen Miao took the opportunity to educate Dabao.

Da Bao gradually began to listen.

She followed Shen Miao's finger and looked at the orcs. They all gave him friendly smiles and comforted him, saying that his father would be alright.

Da Bao's gaze swept over those faces, and he nodded emphatically: "I've got it."

“Alright, now I’ll divide these wild deer into several portions, and you can help me deliver them to the uncles who helped us, okay?” Shen Miao asked softly.

Da Bao shouted, "Okay!"

Shen Miao smiled, quickly ruffled Da Bao's hair, and then pretended to be nonchalant as she went to deal with the wild deer.

When Da Bao realized what was happening, he subconsciously frowned, but said nothing. Instead, he obediently handed over the meat that Shen Miao had divided to the beastmen who had spoken up for them earlier.

Among them are cat-like beastmen.

The cat-beastman said to Da Bao with pity, "Little one, don't be sad, your father will get better."

Da Bao said sensibly, "Thank you, Uncle Cat."

The cat-beastman sighed silently, his gaze falling on the room where Qingchen was staying. He thought to himself, "I hope Qingchen is alright, otherwise these kids are going to suffer."

As for Shen Miao... the cat-beastman's gaze was complicated, hoping that this person had truly changed for the better.

All the prey eventually ended up in the hands of the beastmen through Da Bao. Shen Miao had arranged it this way on purpose. She wanted Zai Zai to remember who could be trusted, and also to remember Da Bao so that he could lend a helping hand when necessary.

She couldn't stay by their side forever; her agreement with Qingchen would have to be fulfilled sooner or later.

The beastmen had all left, and the cabin returned to quiet. Shen Miao went to the kitchen to cook; today's commotion had already taken longer than usual for meals.

She steamed a pot of rice with brown rice and grilled some meat, but since it was getting late, she didn't make anything fancy.

When he went to call the kids for dinner, they were still crying next to Qingchen.

Qingchen remained unconscious. Shen Miao used soft animal hide to wipe the blood off his face, making him look only pale and not so lifeless.

The children refused to leave Qingchen's side for even a moment.

Da Bao cried and promised, "Daddy, we will never fight again. Please don't get hurt, wake up, okay? Waaah, we will be very, very good from now on."

The second, third, and fourth treasures are also guaranteed.

The four children's eyes were red and swollen. Shen Miao was afraid that they would be in pain when they woke up in the morning, so she boiled eggs for them to apply to their eyes.

The prepared egg then went into the bellies of the four babies.

They were also injured, but it wasn't serious for the little ones. However, Shen Miao found it an eyesore, so she rinsed them with water and applied some medicine.

The cubs were terrified because they had fought today. The wicked female beast would be angry, and they wondered how she would punish them.

The expected punishment never came. The wicked mother not only carefully blew on their wounds, but also had tears in her eyes. The children didn't know that it was an emotion called heartache.

"Damn snake-beastman, he got off easy today." Shen Miao cursed through gritted teeth, just because when she was applying medicine to Xiao Sibao, Xiao Sibao trembled, and the mother's protective instincts immediately kicked in.

Little Sibao shrank back in fear.

Shen Miao quickly hugged the little boy and gently comforted him, "Mommy isn't scolding you, baby, don't be afraid, it's okay. If anyone bullies you in the future, you should still fight back, but remember, you must never let yourself suffer a loss!"

She looked at Da Bao, Er Bao, and San Bao, and asked earnestly, "Did you understand?"

The kids were all confused.

The wicked female beast not only failed to punish them, but actually encouraged them to fight!

Shen Miao continued, "We don't cause trouble, but we're not afraid of trouble either. Your mother hopes that each of you children will be brave and capable of protecting yourselves."

The kids were still a bit confused, but they all nodded.

Shen Miao was satisfied and said with a smile, "Alright, let's go eat now."

The children didn't move; they were afraid that if they left, their father would be gone.

While feeling gratified, Shen Miao also felt a pang of sadness.

The fact that the children are so attached to Qingchen also reflects that Qingchen is a very good father.

That man, who always had a cold face, was incredibly patient with the kids.

Shen Miao glanced at Qing Chen, who was lying unconscious and looking very peaceful, and said to the children, "Daddy is fine. Mommy just checked him. He's just too tired and needs to rest for a while. Be good, children, go and eat."

Urged on by Shen Miao, the cubs went out, looking back every few steps.

Seeing that they were in low spirits, after dinner, Shen Miao wove new cricket cages for them. The original ones had always been well protected by the cubs, but unfortunately, they were damaged in the fight with the snake beastmen today.

The children were heartbroken, thinking there would never be another one like it, but to their surprise, Shen Miao made up another one for them.

Xiao Sibao took the cricket cage from Shen Miao. Looking at her gentle eyes and recalling Shen Miao's bravery in rescuing her from the giant snake's mouth earlier that day, a surge of warmth welled up in her little heart.

"Mother." Little Sibao called out the name subconsciously.

However, her voice was very soft. Shen Miao was getting up to pull some grass from the base of the wall and didn't hear clearly. She just turned her head and asked with a smile, "What did Xiao Sibao just say?"

Little Sibao pursed his lips tightly and refused to say anything.

Shen Miao didn't mind and went to choose grass on her own.

Seeing that Shen Miao was a bit far away, the cubs immediately pounced on her and said to Xiao Sibao, "What did you just say? How could you call that wicked female beast 'mother'? Have you forgotten that she tried to sell you before?"

Little Sibao twisted his fingers helplessly: "But she... but she's fine now."
