Chapter 187 Bone Flute

However, after asking everyone in the family, they all said that he really did fall off the bed. Erbao was a little upset, but he still believed it.

After that, he stopped sleeping outside and let his eldest child sleep outside instead.

Da Bao, San Bao, and Si Bao laughed at him for a long time in private, but Er Bao was completely unaware of this.

He quickly reverted to being that mischievous Erbao.

After observing for several days, Shen Miao found that Erbao indeed had no aftereffects, and only then did she feel relieved.

The moon in the sky grew rounder and rounder, and Shen Miao guessed that it was almost time to make a mistake. There was no Mid-Autumn Festival here. When she saw the round moon, she still felt a little melancholy.

However, this mood was quickly dispelled by the children.

Erbao rushed over in a panic, grabbed Chenmiao's clothes, and led her towards the snow wolf's den, saying, "Mother, go and see the snow wolf, something bad has happened to it."

Shen Miao was startled.

A few days ago, the snow wolf started to become a bit lazy. In the past, it would often transform into a beastman one moment and a beast the next, running around with its cubs, never stopping for a moment.

Now, however, he hasn't gone out for several days. He's just a wolf in his den, too lazy to even move.

According to Erbao, the snow wolf didn't eat any of the food they brought it.

When they arrived at the snow wolf's den, the huge beast was now lying on the ground, its smooth fur no longer glossy, but all bristling.

Several cubs surrounded it, and Sibao stroked its fur, saying anxiously, "Snow Wolf, what's wrong with you? Where do you feel unwell?"

The snow wolf whimpered twice, lazily stuck out its tongue, licked Xiao Sibao's hand, and then lay down again.

"Snow Wolf." Shen Miao squatted down and examined the snow wolf, but she couldn't see anything wrong. The snow wolf looked perfectly normal, without even a wound the size of a fingernail.

"Woo." The snow wolf also licked Chen Miao.

Shen Miao channeled some healing power into it. Her power had a calming effect, and the snow wolf seemed to feel better, no longer whimpering like before.

Shen Miao patted its big head and said gently, "Get a good night's sleep. Don't go out if you're not feeling well. Tell me what you want to eat."

The snow wolf howled, but didn't say what it wanted to eat.

Seeing that the snow wolf was drowsy, Shen Miao pulled out the cubs and told them not to disturb the snow wolf's rest.

She thought the snow wolf's condition would improve on its own, but instead it got worse.

That day, the moon rose early, but it was a red moon. Such a large, bright red moon hanging in the sky looked very eerie.

This was the first time Shen Miao had ever seen a blood moon. For some reason, she recalled some things written in books, such as that something bad always happens when a blood moon appears.

She felt a little uneasy, but quickly reassured herself that it was just a novel and that such a situation didn't exist in reality.

The truth is, the snow wolf had been howling incessantly ever since the blood moon appeared, and the cubs couldn't get close to it even when they tried to comfort it.

The snow wolf was in great pain, and even banged its big head against the wall until it became dizzy.

The whole family was alarmed and came over. Shen Miao called out to it, "Snow Wolf, Snow Wolf, what's wrong with you? Calm down."

The snow wolf ignored him and continued to harm itself.

If this continues, I'm bound to hurt myself.

Shen Miao was very anxious and didn't know what to do. Qing Chen calmly said, "This is normal. Snow wolves suffer a lot on the day of the full moon."

"But it wasn't like this before."

Qingchen turned to look at her, "It wasn't a blood moon before."

Shen Miao remained silent. It was indeed related to the blood moon, but the blood moon was a natural phenomenon, and she couldn't make it hide.

"Isn't there any way to alleviate its pain? Oh right, can it become an orc?" Shen Miao's eyes lit up, as if she had discovered a new continent.

Qingchen looked at her with a curious expression, a hint of a smile in his eyes, as if he were laughing at Chen Miao's naivety.

"No, it's a snow wolf. No matter what it transforms into, its true form will remain the same."

Shen Miao's shoulders slumped.

Suddenly, she thought of something, turned around and quickly went back to her room. The others were puzzled. When Shen Miao came out again, she was holding a bone flute in her hand.

Qingchen's eyes flickered when he saw the bone flute.

He remembered that last time, Shen Miao used this strange thing to play a very beautiful and melodious tune.

Is she going to play the tune again today?

Qingchen couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation.

Jiuying didn't know what this was and was about to ask when she saw Shen Miao make a pause gesture, put the bone flute to her lips, and immediately a soothing sound came out from the bone flute.

Even more strangely, upon hearing the flute music, the snow wolf seemed to be in less pain, and its actions of banging against the wall stopped, though it still looked very uncomfortable.

Da Bao exclaimed, "The snow wolf is alright! It really likes this tune!"

Shen Miao's spirits lifted, and she immediately blew even harder.

She was playing a requiem, and she didn't know if it would work; she was just trying it out. Unexpectedly, it worked surprisingly well and seemed to resonate with her.

Shen Miao was overjoyed.

Just as she was playing, another clear, crisp bell sound entered her ears. Shen Miao turned her head slightly and saw that Jiu Ying had taken out his Soul Bell at some point and was slowly shaking it in sync with Shen Miao's tune.

The flute and the bell sounded in perfect harmony, making the children squint and feel drowsy, as if the sleepiness had come on very suddenly.

Qingchen picked them up and prepared to take them back to their room.

The children, however, were not happy and insisted on hearing Shen Miao play the bone flute up close, so Qingchen had no choice but to go along with them.

Soothingly, the snow wolf calmed down completely under the sounds of the flute and the spirit bell. It lay softly on the ground, as usual, no longer as frantic as before.

That night, Shen Miao played the bone flute all night long. She dared not stop, because if she did, the snow wolf's symptoms would reappear.

As dawn broke and the blood moon disappeared, the snow wolf fell into a deep sleep.

Shen Miao was so exhausted that she sat down in the corner, closed her eyes, and let out long breaths.

Jiuying was also very tired, but he was slightly better and was able to struggle to go to his room to rest on his own. Shen Miao was carried to her room by Qingchen.

Her bone flute was also given away and gently placed beside her pillow.

Qingchen stared at the bone flute for a long time, finding it amazing that such a small bone flute could have such great energy.

Perhaps it's not the energy of the bone flute, but the energy of the person playing it.

When Shen Miao woke up again, it was already night. Fortunately, it wasn't a blood moon today, otherwise she felt she would be ruined if she played the bone flute all night.

The children, however, had taken their admiration for Shen Miao to a whole new level. When they saw her wake up, they all gathered around her, asking her how she was doing and inquiring about the piece of music.

Shen Miao was too embarrassed to admit that she had made it up, so she could only lie and say that she had overheard it in her dream by chance. The children listened with great interest as if it were a story, and even pestered Shen Miao to tell another one.
