No one had ever touched the snails in the river, so there were quite a few. Shen Miao just touched them a few times and filled a basket.
It's like getting it for free.
Seeing this, the children also clamored for Xiahe to catch snails.
Looking at the mud on her knees, Shen Miao said to the children with a troubled expression, "Are you sure you can still go up after getting down?"
The babies are very upset; they want to grow taller, they want to grow taller quickly!
Seemingly sensing the strong sense of injustice felt by the children, Shen Miao said leisurely, "If you want to grow taller, you can drink more milk. Drinking that will help you grow taller quickly."
The kids never really liked drinking cow's milk, and the same went for goat's milk, so Shen Miao could only try to encourage them whenever she had the chance.
The little ones clenched their fists and said with a look of grim determination, "I want to drink more milk so I can grow taller quickly."
They found quite a few snails, but there wasn't much meat to pick out, and they were quite troublesome to process. Shen Miao coaxed the little ones, promising to make them delicious food, before they finally joined in.
However, the children didn't think that these tiny snails could make anything delicious, and they were skeptical of what Shen Miao said.
Shen Miao offered no explanation, maintaining her enigmatic smile.
Whether it tastes good or not, you'll know once you try it.
Anyway, she thought it tasted pretty good.
At noon, the kids came to ask if the delicious food was ready, and Shen Miao shook her head, saying no.
That evening, the children came to ask again, and Shen Miao still answered no.
The next day, the kids had all forgotten about it, but suddenly, a scent wafted through the air that they would never forget.
What's going on? It smells terrible. Has something gone bad?
The children looked at each other, then began searching around the yard.
"Dinner's ready."
With a shout from Chen Miao, a large pot of steaming, pungent snail rice noodles was brought out.
The children, who had been excitedly crowding around, immediately pinched their noses, jumped back a long way, and shouted, "Here it is! It's this stinky smell! Mommy, did you stuff something dead inside?"
"How can you talk like that? This is food. How can you stuff that stuff in your mouth? Here, one bowl each, everyone come and eat."
Shen Miao invited the children to sit down and eat noodles, but the children were disgusted, and Qing Chen even turned around and left.
Shen Miao got annoyed, put her hands on her hips, and said, "Hey, what's going on? Stop right there, all of you. Don't you want to eat? This is all we have today. If you don't eat, you'll all go hungry!"
Qingchen stopped in his tracks, and the children sat down obediently with bitter faces.
However, the group of people remained motionless, like stone statues.
Shen Miao was both amused and annoyed. "It's really delicious. You'll know once you try it."
"Won't I die if I take a bite?" Little Sibao asked innocently.
Shen Miao tugged at the little bump on her head, "You won't die. Mother has already given you some to try beforehand. I guarantee you'll love it."
The air was quiet and still; no one spoke.
"Da Bao, Er Bao, San Bao, Si Bao? Want to try some?" Shen Miao began calling out names one by one.
The children all looked at Qingchen and said in unison, "Daddy, let's go first. Mommy said that Kong Rong shared pears, and we should learn from Kong Rong's character."
Qingchen smiled warmly, "Good boy/girl, Daddy ate out today, so I won't eat with you."
“Then Da Bao will eat,” Er Bao replied quickly.
“Yes,” Sanbao said quickly. “Dabao is the eldest brother, so we should all give way to him. Don’t you agree, Sibao?”
"Yes."
Da Bao: "..."
He's quite adept at tricking his brother.
Da Bao tentatively picked up his chopsticks, took a little rice noodle, but before he could put it in his mouth, he suddenly put down his chopsticks, sighed, and said like a little adult, "I am the older brother. Mother said that if there are fun things or delicious food, I should let my younger brother and sister have it first. I can't eat first. Si Bao, you can have it."
Little Sibao was caught in the crossfire even though he was lying down. He pouted and said unhappily, "Big Brother Dabao, you're getting worse and worse."
“I’m just concerned about my younger sister,” Da Bao added.
Si Bao thought for a moment and said to San Bao, "Let San Bao eat it. I remember that San Bao loves food the most. He is always the first to eat the food that Mother makes. Let San Bao taste the first bite today."
Great, they've kicked the ball away again.
Sanbao glared at Sibao, then pursed his lips. "I think..."
Before he could finish speaking, Erbao suddenly jumped up and said, "I need to pee. You guys eat first, don't wait for me."
And so, the snail rice noodles were passed around, and no one had even taken the first bite yet.
Shen Miao watched coldly, then, after gathering her strength, roared from her dantian, "You're not going to eat, are you? Fine, I'll go throw it away. Nobody eats!"
The children quickly picked up their chopsticks and began eating with a bitter expression.
Hmm, it smells a bit bad, but the taste is alright.
The children breathed a sigh of relief. It should be alright; the poison won't kill anyone. It's okay, let them eat a little more to make their mother happy.
Shen Miao glanced over and saw that Qing Chen was also holding chopsticks, picking up a piece and eating it politely.
The family was quietly slurping their noodles when the door was pushed open from the outside, and Jiu Ying walked in.
"Didn't you say you weren't coming back tonight?" Shen Miao asked in surprise when she saw him.
Jiuying put down the prey she was carrying on her shoulder and said with a smile, "I originally thought I would spend the night in the mountains, but that beast was too cunning and we lost it halfway through, so we had to come back first."
"That's perfect. Hurry up and wash your face, then come and eat."
Jiuying walked over and casually asked, "What are you cooking? Shit? This tastes absolutely amazing. Don't you guys have a really strong palate?"
Upon hearing this, everyone stopped eating and couldn't pick up any more food.
"Uncle Jiuying, what are you saying?" Little Sibao complained, stamping his little feet.
Jiuying was confused. "I'm serious. Can't you smell this? It smells like poop."
That's even more heartbreaking.
Shen Miao said coldly, "You talk too much. Go wash your face and come back for dinner."
Jiuying didn't understand, but still obediently did as she was told.
Later, Shen Miao introduced him to snail rice noodles, and he looked incredulous. "It's really something to eat? The taste is really something that most people can't handle."
Despite saying that, Jiuying was still very supportive of what Shen Miao had prepared, and picked up the bowl to slurp it down.
His eating habits were very unrestrained. Compared to Qingchen's noble demeanor, Shen Miao felt that Jiuying was more down-to-earth.
"How was it?" she asked solicitously.
Jiuying asked in surprise, "It smells strange, but it tastes pretty good. How did you make it?"
Shen Miao smiled mysteriously, "That's a secret."
Watching the two interact, Qingchen silently picked up his bowl and deliberately started eating heartily, making noise that drew a curious glance from Shen Miao.
