Shen Miao remained noncommittal.
After finishing their meal, they put out the fire and found a nearby cave to rest. Xue Mo stood guard outside the cave, not daring to go in. He could tell that although Shen Miao had forgiven him, she wasn't as kind to him as before.
He needs to win back that goodwill.
Xue Mo secretly made up her mind.
Nothing happened that night. The next day, Shen Miao prepared to leave, but because the forest was very large, she couldn't find her way back. She wandered in the Illusionary Mist Forest for a long time and got lost.
Unbeknownst to them, they had stumbled into the territory of the ant-beastmen.
Shen Miao didn't react at first, until some orcs rushed out with weapons, which startled her.
I wanted to explain, but found myself surrounded by a dense swarm of ants—a scene that would give anyone with trypophobia nightmares.
The ant-beastmen were extremely hostile to outsider beastmen, and even after Shen Miao explained that she hadn't broken in on purpose, it was no use; they still raised their weapons at her.
The two sides started fighting. The other side had a large number of people and surrounded Shen Miaotuan.
These ants are even more difficult to deal with than the Purple Cloud Leopard and the Dream Bear. At least those two big guys come out in the open, while the ants come in swarms, some in human form, but most in ant form.
They can also spit venom from their mouths, which will poison you if it gets on your body. Shen Miao has to avoid them and deal with the attacks of the orcs, which makes her very constrained.
At the critical moment, a panicked voice suddenly rang out, "Fire!"
The ant-orcs were startled. They hurriedly looked and saw that a fire had started in the tribe at some point. The fire was not big, but there were several fires. Immediately, some ants were sent out to put out the fire, while the rest continued to attack Shen Miao.
"Walk!"
Suddenly, a hand reached out and grabbed Shen Miao's hand, pulling her directly outside. Shen Miao was startled and looked up to see Xue Mo.
Xue Mo ran incredibly fast, as if she had wheels of fire under her feet.
Only when the ants behind them were gradually left behind and out of sight did they dare to stop.
The two had been running all the way and were exhausted. They finally stopped and, after catching their breath, they had no strength left to speak. Xue Mo patted her chest and said with lingering fear, "That scared me to death. I thought we were going to be caught up with."
After he finished speaking, he found that Shen Miao did not respond. Then, after a while, he heard a thud. When he looked up, he saw that Shen Miao had fallen to the ground unconscious.
Xue Mo was terrified. Her face turned deathly pale, and she jumped up, crying out in panic, "Chen Miao, Chen Miao, what's wrong with you? Don't scare me! Wake up!"
After calling for a long time, Shen Miao did not respond at all; her eyes were closed and her breathing was rapid.
Xue Mo was in a hurry, pacing around in circles.
Unlike Shen Miao, who possesses healing abilities, he knows nothing about medicine and, due to Shen Miao's status as a female beast, dares not conduct random examinations.
After scratching their heads for a long time, those ant-beastmen actually came chasing after them again.
Xue Mo was startled, his soul almost leaving his body. His first reaction was to run, but Shen Miao was still on the ground. After running a few steps, he turned back, helped Shen Miao up, carried her on his back, and ran away as fast as he could.
But in just a short while, the ant-orcs were already in front of him, and without thinking twice, they launched an attack on him.
Xue Mo was carrying someone on her back and couldn't retaliate, so she had to endure it.
He frantically ran through the woods, beads of sweat streaming down his face, muttering to himself, "Beast God above, protect us, we must not be harmed, please, please."
Fortunately, Shen Miao had successfully lost weight beforehand; otherwise, Xue Mo wouldn't have been able to support her even after just a few steps while carrying her when she first arrived.
Even so, by the time Xue Mo finally shook off the ant-beastmen and arrived at a safe place, he was almost half-dead from exhaustion.
This is too difficult; it's even harder than fighting a high-level monster.
Xue Mo was panting like an ox. After resting for a while, he hurried to check on Shen Miao's condition.
Even after being almost dragged back like that, Shen Miao still didn't wake up, but her complexion was even worse and her breathing was even hotter.
Xue Mo's expression was solemn. He didn't know anything about medicine, but he was aware that there were many strange things in the Illusionary Mist Forest. If one were to accidentally come into contact with them, one could suffer serious injuries or even lose one's life.
I wonder what Shen Miao has done to offend him.
Xue Mo was so anxious that she was about to scratch her hair bald when her gaze suddenly fell on Shen Miao's left hand, where there was a large, raised, red, swollen area.
Is this... ant venom?
Xue Mo suddenly realized, that's right, when those ant-beastmen fight, their specialty is spraying venom, and Shen Miao was surrounded by ants at the time, so it was too easy for them to spray her with venom.
After figuring out the reason, Xue Mo breathed a sigh of relief. He might not know about other poisons, but he happened to know how to cure ant poison.
Xue Mo settled Shen Miao in a safe place and went off to find herbs.
Half an hour later, he gathered all the herbs, crushed them with a stone, and applied them to the bite site on Shen Miao. He squeezed the remaining herbs into juice and dripped it into Shen Miao's mouth.
These herbs, when taken internally and applied externally, are very effective.
After applying the medicine, Xue Mo didn't leave but stayed by her side. Not long after, Shen Miao woke up. She was still very weak, but she remembered very clearly that she had been poisoned by ants.
"We escaped?" Shen Miao asked weakly.
"Yes, you're awake. Is there anything else that's bothering you?"
Shen Miao coughed, felt around, and found that apart from the pain in the area where she had been bitten, everything else was fine, so she shook her head.
"Did you rescue me? Thank you."
"It's nothing." Xue Mo was flattered and quickly waved his hand. Shen Miao was unusually kind to him, and he didn't know how to react.
Shen Miao smiled and said, "I still need to thank you. If it weren't for you, I might have already died in the territory of the ant beastmen."
Xue Mo pursed her lips and whispered, "I... I just wanted to be brave. I'm sorry I couldn't help you before. I hope you won't hold a grudge against me."
Shen Miao was stunned for a moment, then laughed and shook her head, saying, "No, I've already forgotten about that. Besides, whether you helped me or not back then, I had no right to criticize you."
Just then, Xue Mo's stomach growled loudly.
His face flushed red instantly. He clutched his stomach and said with difficulty, "Um, I... you didn't hear me, did you?"
Shen Miao laughed loudly, "Right, I didn't hear it."
"I'll go get something to eat; you must be hungry too." Xue Mo got up and ran outside in a flash.
Shen Miao couldn't stop calling him, so she could only sigh and take out some food from her spatial storage, waiting for Xue Mo to come back and share it with him.
Xue Mo only picked a few ugly little fruits and came back dejectedly. "There are no more fruits nearby," he said. "To pick the better ones, you have to go to a very far place, and I'm not comfortable with that."
