Chapter 22 Finding a Snow Wolf

The father and son exchanged glances for a long time, but Shen Miao was completely oblivious, still basking in the praise of herself for becoming more beautiful.

For the rest of the time, she exuded a relaxed aura.

When she was feeding Qingchen his medicine, he casually complained that it was bitter. She didn't scold him, but instead told him very patiently that she was going to make some jujube cake, which was sweet, and that he could eat one after taking his medicine.

Qingchen had an "I don't care, do it or don't" expression on his face, but as soon as Shen Miao turned her head, the corners of his mouth immediately curled up.

Sour jujube cake must taste just as good as rice cake.

"Oh, right, there's something I need to tell you. I'm planning to go back to my parents' home." Shen Miao suddenly turned around.

Qingchen's smile vanished before it could fully open, and her face went expressionless: "Going back to your parents' home? What for?"

Realizing that her tone was slightly hurried, Qingchen pursed her lips, lowered her eyes, and concealed the fleeting gloom in them.

In the past, Shen Miao often went back to her parents' home, usually staying for a day or several days, leaving her children at home, who were so hungry that they could only eat grass roots.

So, is she going to abandon him and the children again?

Shen Miao didn't notice the change in Qingchen's emotions and said matter-of-factly, "Go back and see my mother. Before, when there was no food at home and you were sick, my mother would often save her own food and secretly send it over."

In Shen Miao's memory, this mother was really good to her.

He scrimped and saved, giving all the rest to his good-for-nothing daughter, fearing that his lazy and greedy daughter would starve him to death.

Even so, the original owner was still not satisfied and would go back every now and then to beg for money, without considering how her mother was doing.

Without the beastmen, the female beastmen could only rely on their sons for survival, and Shen Miaoniang's act of subsidizing her daughters made her sons very dissatisfied.

However, the mother didn't say any of this, so the original owner pretended not to know anything.

"He's a real piece of work," Shen Miao concluded after searching through her memories.

Shen Miao's suggestion to go back to her parents' home was not a sudden whim; she just realized that her mother hadn't visited for quite some time, something that had never happened before.

Could something have happened? Shen Miao was a little worried.

Qingchen didn't have much contact with Shen Miaoniang. On the few occasions they did have, he had a good impression of the elderly female beast, who was much kinder than Shen Miaoniang.

After a moment of silence, Qingchen asked, "How many days will you be back?"

"We'll see." Shen Miao wasn't sure either. She didn't know what the situation was over there. If her mother was doing well, she would come back after visiting her. If she wasn't doing well, then they'd see.

Qingchen hummed in agreement and didn't say anything more.

Shen Miao felt that he seemed suddenly unhappy, but she didn't know why. She called the children in to keep him company and then went out.

She first went to check the remaining food.

There were seven pieces of meat left, hanging under the eaves. They would last her and her children about three or four days, but it wouldn't be enough if she took them to her parents' home.

She couldn't leave nothing for her family, nor could she go to her parents' home empty-handed; that was something only the original owner of this body would do.

Shen Miao decided to go into the mountains again.

This time, she used the same old method for hunting: digging traps. This time, she dug larger traps and chose locations closer to the depths of the forest. There was a reason for her doing so.

Based on her observation of the footprints on the ground, Shen Miao guessed that there were relatively large wild animals roaming around here, and she decided to try her luck and go for something big.

After digging the trap and camouflaging it, Shen Miao ran off to another place. Last time she picked a lot of matsutake mushrooms, but unfortunately, before she could even eat them, they were ruined by a wild boar that suddenly appeared.

Even after killing the wild boar, she didn't think to pick up the matsutake mushrooms she had left behind.

While she has some time, she picks up more to take home. If she can't finish them, she can dry them so she can alternate them with meat. Eating meat every day gets boring.

Shen Miao had been busy in the forest for most of the day, picking a full basket of mountain delicacies. Seeing that it was getting late, she wiped her sweat and headed towards the trap.

I wonder if any wild animals were caught in the trap.

Thinking this, Shen Miao saw from afar that the trap she had dug had been trampled and collapsed.

Overjoyed, he quickened his pace.

As soon as she reached the edge of the trap, she heard groaning sounds coming from inside. The sounds were very painful. Shen Miao wondered if the prey had not died this time.

Peeking out, I was taken aback.

At the bottom of the dug pit lay a large, snow-white wild beast. If it weren't for its weak state, it would have looked quite majestic.

This is a snow wolf!

A name popped into Shen Miao's mind, along with some information she had read in a book.

Snow wolves are very powerful and difficult to deal with, and they rarely appear. Whether you can catch one depends entirely on luck. Many orcs specifically venture into the dense forests to search for them because some snow wolves contain extremely valuable beast crystals.

Beast crystals can enhance the strength of orcs and help them advance and level up, so everyone hopes to obtain beast crystals.

The truth is, beast crystals are extremely rare.

After digesting all this information, Shen Miao was overjoyed. Her luck was incredible! She hunted a wild boar on her second trip up the mountain, and now she had a snow wolf. Who else could do that?!

But her joy was short-lived, for she soon noticed something amiss: the snow wolf stood up unsteadily, its hind legs twisted in an unnatural position, presumably because it had broken one.

After several attempts, the snow wolf failed to stand up and gradually became desperate. It lay on the ground, its body rising and falling, its eyes pleading as it looked at Shen Miao.

Shen Miao's heart stirred, recalling some news she had seen in her previous life, which said that some animals are spiritual and may even ask humans for help in times of crisis.
