Jiuying turned around and came back.
In the courtyard, Qingchen was using a stone knife to repair Shen Miao's cart, just as she had instructed. Someone had kicked over the stall, breaking one of the cart's side panels.
Later, Qingchen and Jiuying went to the beast farm to carry the car back, but they never had time to repair it.
"They're gone?"
Jiuying walked over and nodded, saying, "Yes."
Shen Miao smiled and said, "Thanks to you all this time, otherwise I would probably have to live with the reputation of being a wicked woman forever."
Although she didn't really care, the reputation was still quite unpleasant.
Jiuying laughed and said, "How can you thank us? Why don't you cook us a few good meals?"
“Okay,” Shen Miao readily agreed.
Qingchen walked over, pushed Jiuying aside, and said calmly, "You're blocking the light."
Jiuying glanced at where she was standing, somewhat speechless. What was blocking her way? It was obvious that this guy had gone crazy again, getting extremely jealous.
Over the next few days, the weather took a sharp turn for the worse, with torrential rains replacing the previous clear skies.
The torrential rain continued for several days without stopping, causing the river to rise and deep water to accumulate on the plains. Shen Miao had already asked her family to start packing up their belongings in preparation for the flood.
As a result, in the early hours of that day, while everyone was sound asleep, a sudden rumbling sound woke everyone up.
Shen Miao put on her clothes, pushed open the door and went out. Qing Chen from next door also came out. She grabbed him and asked, "What was that sound?"
“The mountain collapsed,” Qingchen replied, his tone grave.
Shen Miao was stunned for a moment, then quickly realized, "It's a mudslide."
The two went out in the rain to check and found that half of the village had been buried by the mudslide. Because they were far away from the village, their side was not affected.
Shen Miao squinted. There seemed to be people in the shadows outside, but the rain was too heavy and the light was poor, so she couldn't see anything clearly.
"I'll go take a look," Qingchen said to Shen Miao. "You go back first and watch over the kids."
The babies woke up, their faces filled with distress. Jiuying racked her brains trying to soothe them. When she saw Chen Miao return, she hurriedly said, "Come quickly, I can't handle them."
Shen Miao walked over, comforted the children in a few words, and started talking about the tribe.
Jiuying was getting restless and was about to go out when Qingchen returned from outside, soaking wet. Everyone in the room stared at him instantly. Qingchen calmly said, "The situation is not good. When the mountain collapsed, some people couldn't escape and were buried inside."
These words immediately created a tense atmosphere in the room. Even the children knew that things were not going well, and they quietly watched the adults, not daring to make a sound.
Half a tribe, how many people must have been buried there?
"So what do we do now?"
A bolt of lightning flashed outside. Shen Miao hugged Xiao Sibao tightly, covering her ears. After the thunder subsided, Qing Chen said, "The rain is too heavy. We can't save anyone now. We can only wait until dawn."
It was only about half an hour before dawn, but everyone felt restless, as if they had endured an entire night. However, there was good news: the rain gradually stopped when it got light.
Early in the morning, all the orcs came out, though some never made it out again.
Everyone gathered together, discussing the matter. Some people searched through the crowd but couldn't find the clan leader or the elders, so they became a little anxious.
People need someone to rely on, even if they do nothing, just their presence can put people at ease. But these two are not here now. The clan chief's family came and said that the clan chief was frightened last night and fell ill, so he can't come now.
As for the elders, their homes were buried.
Everyone fell silent, their gazes involuntarily turning to Qingchen. Qingchen didn't refuse; after a moment's thought, he said to the cat-beastman, "Let's begin the rescue. Anyone in the households unaffected by the mudslide, if you're capable, bring your tools and come to search and rescue."
The cat-beastman nodded and began organizing everyone to carry out the rescue.
Shen Miao also brought her tools and, together with Jiu Ying and Qing Chen, began to rescue people.
The children were too small, so Shen Miao didn't dare let them come over. She just told them to stand far away and not get close, so as not to get stuck in the mud.
This is always a very difficult task; it's tiring and dirty, so of course some people are unwilling to do it.
Shuanghua, with her hands tucked into the animal hide, looked here and there, and even directed Shen Miao, "Shen Miao, Shen Miao, put some effort into it! You're treating this like you're just scratching an itch, not putting in any effort at all."
Shen Miao ignored her.
After a while, Shuanghua started causing trouble again, "You're digging too slowly, are you doing it on purpose, or did you not eat breakfast?"
Shen Miao, unable to bear it any longer, said, "Get lost."
"How can you be like this? You're digging incorrectly, and I'm telling you, you still curse at me. Are you sick? You just don't want to dig, so what are you pretending for?" Shuanghua said righteously.
Shen Miao looked at her clean hands and animal hide and sneered, "If you're so good, why don't you come and dig? Everyone else is digging, and you're just standing there. How can you be so shameless?"
Frostflower, with her thick skin, said, "I want to dig too, but I can't stand the way you're doing it."
The surrounding orcs, seeing the two arguing, chimed in and accused Frostflower, "Frostflower, stop talking. Shenmiao has been digging for half a day, and you haven't done anything. What right do you have to criticize her?"
Shuanghua explained, "No, Auntie, I only said a few words to her because I saw she was digging incorrectly..."
“Where did she dig wrong? Even if she did, you, who did nothing, have no right to criticize her,” a straightforward female beast said directly.
She had long disliked Shuanghua, who dressed up seductively and wandered around the tribe like a vixen.
Shuanghua's face flushed red, and she stamped her foot, saying, "I know you all fawn over Shen Miao. Yes, I can't compare to her, I'm not worthy to speak to you. Then I'll leave."
After saying that, he was about to leave.
But somehow, he tripped over a stone and fell face-first into the mud, his body and face covered in mud, even his mouth.
A burst of snickers arose from the surrounding area.
Frost Flower, exasperated, shouted, "Chen Miao, was it you who did this?"
Shen Miao said coolly, "Since you're all dirty, come down and dig with everyone. By the way, let me remind you, this is a matter for the tribe. If you don't help others when they're in trouble today, don't expect anyone to help you when you encounter difficulties in the future."
“Yes, that makes sense,” the orcs echoed.
Shuanghua wanted to find an excuse to go back, but seeing this situation, she could only stay, feeling resentful.
An orc quietly sidled up to her and whispered, "Shen Miao, you really have a way with things. These female beasts are the hardest to deal with. She doesn't care what you say. This is how you should teach her a lesson."
Shen Miao laughed and said, "Auntie, don't make me sound so amazing. She fell down on her own. Even the Beast God couldn't stand it and made her fall flat on her face."
Several orcs chuckled.
