Under Qingchen and Jiuying's arrangement, the skeleton soldiers launched several attacks, all of which ended in failure.
This angered them, and the skeleton soldiers sent men back to inform the main force, urging them to come and reinforce them, preparing to take down the tribe at all costs.
The atmosphere in the tribe immediately became tense again.
Qingchen and Jiuying convened several meetings, and the only solution they came up with was to tough it out. If all else failed and the skeleton soldiers broke in, then everyone would have to fend for themselves.
After hearing about it, Shen Miao went into her space to check her reserves and found a lot of bulletproof glass. This stuff couldn't be penetrated by even bullets, let alone the claws of skeleton soldiers.
If we install this thing, what are we afraid of those damn skeleton soldiers?
The problem is, how is she going to get the things out now?
Qingchen and Jiuying were worried, and so was Shenmiao. However, when they saw her worry, they comforted her instead. Shenmiao sighed and thought to herself, "You don't understand. It's really frustrating to have something good but not be able to share it."
One day, a female animal came crying and looking for people, saying that her cub was missing. Everyone was very worried and helped to search for it.
The female beast was utterly devastated and nearly fainted from crying.
Some orcs started making sarcastic remarks, saying that the female orc's cubs had been captured by the skeleton soldiers and there was no need to look for them anymore.
Everyone retorted, "What nonsense are you talking about? Did you see it with your own eyes? If you didn't see it, don't talk nonsense. The mother was crying like that, how can you still say such things?"
"I'm telling the truth. It's always been possible. Several nearby tribes lost a lot of their cubs before, and they were all captured by skeleton soldiers." The orc who made the sarcastic remark was self-righteous.
Some of the orcs thought he made sense and began to panic again.
Shen Miao, unable to bear it any longer, warned, "Enough! Don't create panic here. Either help find the person, or get out of here."
The orc was still very dissatisfied, glaring at Shen Miao as if he wanted to argue. Qing Chen stepped forward and swallowed the rest of his words without saying a word.
Shen Miao ignored him, comforted everyone, and continued searching for people.
Just then, someone shouted breathlessly, "Found it! The little rascal is asleep in the grass!"
When everyone gathered around to look, they saw a little cub being carried back, looking completely bewildered. Seeing so many orcs surrounding him, the little cub shrank back in fear.
Then his mother rushed over, hugged the little boy tightly, and cried loudly, "You scared your mother to death! Why did you go outside to sleep? Do you know how dangerous it is? If you were gone, your mother wouldn't want to live either."
The little one cried too.
The mother and child embraced and wept bitterly. The onlookers, including the beastmen, felt a pang of sadness. No one could bear such a tragedy. After comforting the female beast, they all turned back.
After this incident, they felt that their preparations were insufficient and that they needed to make the windows even thicker to prevent the skeleton soldiers from having a chance to get in.
Shen Miao and Qing Chen slowly walked back home. She was unusually quiet today, which made Qing Chen feel a little uncomfortable. He couldn't help but turn his head to look at her several times, but Shen Miao was focused on her own thoughts and didn't notice at all.
After arriving home, Shen Miao went to her room and fiddled with things for a long time. Qing Chen became uneasy and knocked on the door. Shen Miao opened the door and said to Qing Chen, "I have something to show you."
"What is that?" Qingchen raised an eyebrow.
Shen Miao took a deep breath. "It's a good thing. You may not have seen it before. It can help us, but I can't tell you where it comes from, so you can't ask."
Qingchen became somewhat serious at her attitude, and he said noncommittally, "I'll talk about it after I see what it is."
"No, you have to promise me first that even if you see something, you can't hurt me." Shen Miao was very stubborn.
Qingchen was utterly baffled, unable to understand why Shen Miao always felt that he would hurt her, when he had never hurt her before. Wasn't that right?
He stared intently at Shen Miao, trying to discern some clues from her increasingly beautiful face, but unfortunately, Shen Miao's face showed nothing but stubbornness and persistence.
Qingchen's eyes deepened. "I promise you."
Shen Miao burst into laughter, a smile as innocent and joyful as that of a young child, which made Qing Chen's emotions even more complicated.
"You can come in now."
Shen Miao stepped aside to let Qingchen into the room.
Qingchen stepped into the room.
Inside the room, there was a pile of transparent things, like large blocks of ice during the snow season. At first, Qingchen really thought it was ice, after all, Shen Miao had just made it not long ago.
But he soon discovered that this was not the case; the ice cubes would not be this thin or this uniform.
He looked at Shen Miao in surprise and asked, "What is this? What is it used for?"
"This is called glass. It can be used to block windows. Aren't you worried that those skeleton soldiers will climb in through the windows? With this glass, they can't get in," Shen Miao explained.
Qingchen expressed his doubts; these things didn't look very sturdy.
He emphasized, "The skeletons' claws are very strong and can tear through wood. These things probably wouldn't be enough for them to grab with one claw."
Shen Miao couldn't help but laugh. She pulled Qing Chen closer to the glass and said, "Feel it. This stuff is much harder than wood. I guarantee that even if a skeleton soldier's claws broke, it wouldn't be able to scratch a hole in this glass."
Qingchen was suspicious. He touched the thing and it felt smooth, not like it was very hard. He secretly used some spiritual power, but there was no reaction at all.
Even though he intentionally held back his spiritual power, he still used one or two tenths of it, so this thing is really very sturdy.
Seeing that Qingchen had already tried it, Shen Miao smiled and said, "So, do you think we can use them to stop the skeleton soldiers?"
Qingchen nodded, "Sure, but since nobody knows how to use it, I'm afraid you'll have to teach us."
"It's alright, let's install the one at home first, it's not difficult."
So Shen Miao and Qing Chen Jiu Ying worked together and quickly replaced all the windows in their house with bulletproof glass. They also gathered the orcs of the tribe and distributed the glass.
No one knew what it was, but they trusted Qingchen and Shen Miao. They took the bulletproof glass back and, as Shen Miao had instructed, stuck it on glass and doors—places where people could easily break in.
In addition, Shen Miao felt that external defensive fortifications were also necessary.
When the Bloodworms attacked last time, they temporarily erected a barrier. Once the Bloodworms retreated, the barrier was removed. Now she proposes to build a permanent wall, similar to the Great Wall.
Of course, the orcs here didn't know what the Great Wall was, so Shen Miao drew it on a leaf and explained it to them.
The orcs all agreed to build the city walls.
