Chapter 296 The granary catches fire

Here's what happened.

Shen Miao stipulated that Xuan Ran's army had to include meat in every meal because they had to train every day and be responsible for the safety of the beast domain.

But wherever there are many people, there will be injustice.

When the canteen specifically responsible for feeding Xuanran's army was first established, everything was fine. The beastmen were able to get enough meat to eat at every meal. However, as time went by, the amount of meat became less and less.

Some orcs with big appetites were not getting enough to eat. When they complained to the orc in charge of the canteen, the orc became very impatient and scolded them for eating too much, so he reduced the amount of meat.

The orcs were furious and started arguing with the orc in charge. Both sides stuck to their own version of events, and the problem escalated until it even came to the point of a physical fight.

After hearing the whole story, Shen Miao looked around at the mess in the cafeteria. It was obvious that a chaotic fight had just taken place there.

At this moment, several orcs still had bruises on their faces, their eyes filled with resentment.

Shen Miao took a deep breath and first asked Xuan Ran's army, "Why are you causing trouble?"

The leader said angrily, "Because they withhold our food. Without food, how can we train? If our training isn't up to par, we can't protect the Beast Domain."

Goodness, he's really got a whole set of arguments, and he's speaking with such righteous indignation.

Shen Miao then asked the cafeteria staff, "Is what they said true? Did you withhold their food?"

"That's not true. We eat according to the allotted portions every meal."

"Then why do they say the meat portion has been reduced?" Shen Miao raised an eyebrow.

The canteen manager's eyes darted around, and he broke out in a cold sweat. "Because... because the amount of animal meat delivered to the canteen has decreased, we don't have any meat on hand. What are we going to give them?"

"Nonsense!" the leader of Xuanran's army roared. "Where is the shortage? Every time we go hunting, we bring back a huge amount of game meat. Your canteen takes our hard-earned prey and then mistreats us. You're not human."

The canteen manager, his face bulging with fat, retorted defiantly, "When did you deliver the beast meat? You don't go hunting every day. When there's no prey, you still rely on the beast farm for supplies."

The two sides started arguing again.

Shen Miao stopped him and said in a deep voice to the canteen manager, "The meat at each meal needs to be rationed. That's what I said. If there isn't enough game, we should buy it from the farm or trade it. Didn't you listen to me?"

The cafeteria manager wiped the sweat from his face and said with a pained expression, "No, that's not how it is, boss, please listen to me..."

Shen Miao raised her eyebrows, waiting for him to explain, but the orc stammered and couldn't come up with anything for a long time. Someone shouted, "He's the one who embezzled the beast meat! His family has meat to eat every day, and they can even use it to trade for other things. It's all his fault!"

"I didn't!" the cafeteria manager retorted excitedly, sweating profusely.

Xuan Ranjun shouted excitedly, "Whether it's there or not, just search his house and you'll know. He must have a lot of meat hidden in his house!"

"Yes, he didn't have time to process the meat today, it must be hidden in his house!"

All of Xuanran's soldiers were furious and unanimously demanded that the canteen manager's home be searched.

Shen Miao initially didn't want to go, after all, she came from modern society and knew that she couldn't search other people's homes without a reason, but she quickly realized that.

In this dog-eat-dog world of orcs, there is no such thing as privacy, and no one has that concept.

Besides, she's now the one who's lining her own pockets.

Such people do not deserve privacy.

Shen Miao immediately agreed and ordered one of Xuan Ran's soldiers to go to the canteen manager's house to check. The Xuan Ran soldier ran off in a flash, and the canteen manager couldn't stop him. His chubby face was full of resentment and anxiety.

Soon, Xuan Ran's soldier brought back news: the canteen manager's house had an entire room used to store meat, which was still fresh and, like today's prey, was bison.

Upon hearing this, Shen Miao flew into a rage. The fire tiger behind her roared and charged forward, baring its fangs at the fat orc.

The fat orc was so frightened that he collapsed to the ground, pleading tremblingly, "Spare me, boss, spare me! I won't do it again, I'll never do it again!"

"Fire Tiger, come back!" Shen Miao remained relatively calm.

Fire Tiger didn't understand and asked, "Why? He's eaten so much beast meat, he should have died long ago."

Shen Miao raised her eyebrows and said, "His crime does not warrant death."

The fat orc's eyes lit up when he heard this, thinking that Shen Miao had softened her heart and let him go. However, her next words sent him straight to hell.

Shen Miao said, enunciating each word clearly, "Listen, you have one day before the sun goes down. You must vomit up all the beast meat you have swallowed. If you don't have any, you will have to compensate with beast crystals at the price of the meat. In addition, for violating military regulations, you will be punished with fifty strokes of the cane, expelled from the Xuanran Army, and never allowed to enter again."

The fat orc collapsed to the ground like a lump of mud.

Xuanran's army was delighted. Two soldiers who hated the fat orc to the bone stepped forward, dragged the fat orc down, pressed him to the ground, and began to beat him with sticks.

The fat orc's screams were incessant.

Shen Miao ignored him and said to Xuan Ranjun, "Several of you go and bring back all the meat from his house."

"Yes, boss." Several Xuanran soldiers replied and went off to move the meat with great joy.

Shen Miao later interrogated the other beastmen in the canteen and found that they were alright, but they lived under the fat beastman's tyranny and dared not say anything even though they knew the fat beastman was dishonest.

Now that the fat orc has left, they can't help but worry about their own future.

After inquiring, Shen Miao discovered that these beastmen were different from the fat beastmen, so she kept them all and selected a calm and scientific researcher from among them to be the person in charge of the canteen.

Everyone was satisfied with the decision. After resolving the matter, Shen Miao issued a rule: Xuan Ran's army could supervise each other from now on, and if they saw any problems, they could come directly to her to complain.

She was determined to address the problems in the military, and after doing so, she received a few more complaints, but none of them were serious and were resolved quickly.

That night, Shen Miao was sleeping soundly when suddenly a commotion broke out outside. She jolted awake, grabbed a piece of clothing, threw it on, and went out the door.

"What happened?" Shen Miao asked Qing Chen, who was standing at the door.

Qingchen turned to look at her and said in a deep voice, "Our grain warehouse is on fire."

Shen Miao's eyes widened, and she quickly walked out. Sure enough, she saw a raging fire burning in the direction of the warehouse, and many people had already run to put it out. Shen Miao was shocked and hurriedly ran towards the warehouse.

Qingchen woke Erbao and followed closely behind.
