Shen Miao couldn't bear to disappoint them, so she agreed.
On the contrary, the old female beast was a little worried. After all, there were many wild animals in the forest, and the children could easily encounter danger. In that case, Shen Miao alone would not be able to protect them.
Shen Miao comforted her, "It's alright. We won't take them inside. We'll just look around from the outside. It should be fine."
She then asked her mother to help take care of Qingchen a little, and the old female beast naturally agreed.
Shen Miao then took the four children up the mountain.
The children were overjoyed. This was their first time in the mountains, and everything they saw along the way was new and exciting. They even said that when they grow up, they will hunt a lot of prey so that Shen Miao won't have to work so hard.
Shen Miao chuckled to herself, unable to bring herself to discourage them.
The children were very excited, but unfortunately they didn't even recognize what wild fruit trees looked like. Shen Miao pointed them out one by one. Since they hadn't gone any further into the mountains, only outside, the wild fruits on this side had been almost all picked.
"Where are the wild fruits? I can't see any." The kids were getting a little anxious.
Shen Miao led them to a slightly more secluded place, where they indeed found wild persimmons and some pine cones.
The children were competing to see who could collect the most wild fruits, each one as busy as a spinning top, constantly moving back and forth between where the fruits had fallen and their baskets.
They were not tired at all; on the contrary, they were very happy to have found food.
Suddenly, Sanbao ran up to Chen Miao, holding up a baby bird: "Mommy, this little bird can't find its mother."
Shen Miao looked down and saw that her son was holding a fledgling bird that hadn't even grown its feathers yet in his small hands.
The expressions on the faces of the person and the bird were exactly the same—a blank and adorable look. Shen Miao couldn't help but like it, smiled, and took the baby bird. "It must have fallen from the tree."
The chicks all looked up and, sure enough, saw a bird's nest on the tree where the baby bird had fallen.
Wow, it fell from such a height.
The chicks were heartbroken because the baby bird couldn't fly anymore; it didn't know how to fly yet.
"It's alright, I can take it upstairs." Shen Miao's words cheered up the children.
With Shen Miao's size, climbing trees is really difficult for her.
Fortunately, this tree wasn't the straight kind, and she was much stronger than the average female animal, so after adapting, she climbed up very quickly.
The baby birds were placed in the nest, but the mother bird was not there; there were other baby birds in the nest.
Shen Miao didn't touch them; she put them away and then went downstairs.
I've heard that some large birds are very perceptive; once their nests are disturbed, they will no longer care for the chicks inside.
Shen Miao successfully climbed down from the tree and met four pairs of bright, sparkling eyes.
Hmm? She raised an eyebrow.
"Mommy, teach us how to climb trees!" All four cubs rushed up to him, including the eldest.
Shen Miao deeply felt the overwhelming admiration from the children.
Climbing trees is not difficult, and it's even easier for the little beasts who are beasts themselves.
Shen Miao found a small tree and gave the children a little guidance. They quickly understood and started running around among the trees. They even climbed a persimmon tree, picked persimmons, and threw them directly into their baskets, causing the persimmons to burst open.
The children burst into laughter.
After the first time, the children developed a strong interest in going up the mountain, and every time Shen Miao wanted to go into the mountain, they would pester her to go with them.
Shen Miao did not agree again.
She went up the mountain to hunt, and when prey appeared, she couldn't care less about her cubs.
They're still too young; let's wait until they're a bit older.
Who would have thought that Shen Miao's momentary carelessness almost led to a major disaster.
Erbao was small but brave. He always felt that there were so many wild fruits to eat in the forest, and if he brought them all back, he would never go hungry again.
So, when no one was looking, he secretly sent one of the little cubs up the mountain.
When Shen Miao asked about Er Bao, everyone realized that the little one had been missing for quite some time.
Upon closer examination, it probably disappeared while the kids were taking their afternoon nap.
Shen Miao still held a sliver of hope, thinking that perhaps Erbao was being mischievous and had run off to play with the other children in the tribe.
So I went to the tribe and asked around.
Someone in the know told her that Erbao's baby had gone up the mountain!
Shen Miao immediately became anxious.
That was just a five-year-old child. The mountains were so dangerous that Shen Miao even imagined the scene of the little child being eaten by a wild beast, which scared her into a cold sweat.
As Shen Miao ran wildly up the mountain, she prayed silently in her heart.
The baby must not get hurt, absolutely must not get hurt!
The forest was very large. Shen Miao went to the area where she had brought them last time, searching around while calling out Erbao's name loudly.
During her search, she saw several scattered wild persimmons.
Judging from its appearance, it was dropped in a hurry.
The little one has come here, and is in danger!
Shen Miao was frantic and shouted loudly, "Erbao, Erbao, where are you? Erbao, can you hear me? Answer your mother!"
A soft, rustling sound came from the nearby bushes.
Then, a dirty little head popped out.
"Mother, I'm here."
Shen Miao suddenly turned her head, picked up Erbao, and found that the place where he was hiding was a pit. She didn't know how it was formed. The pit was not big, and the baby was not big either. It was just big enough to hide him completely.
"Are you hurt? Does anything hurt?"
Shen Miao thoroughly examined Erbao from head to toe. Her usual gentleness was gone, replaced by an extremely hoarse voice.
Erbao shrugged.
His mother stopped smiling, and he was terrified of her like this.
But soon, he remembered something more important, and hurriedly patted Shen Miao's arm, gesturing, "Mother, let's go, a spider, a huge spider."
Shen Miao felt a chill.
Spiders aren't that big. Erbao must have encountered a demon spider. No wonder, that thing is as big as a millstone, and the silk it spits out can suffocate a person.
Shen Miao picked up Erbao and ran.
Suddenly, a noise came from behind, as if something big was chasing after them. Shen Miao turned around and saw the ugly face of the Demon Spider.
In an instant, she seemed to have the wind on her feet.
The spider pursued relentlessly.
Erbao, perched on Shen Miao's shoulder, could clearly see the demonic spider rapidly approaching. Terrified, her eyes welled up with tears, and she covered her mouth tightly with her little hands, afraid that she would burst into tears.
Shen Miao ran wildly for more than ten miles, but not only did she fail to shake off the demon spider, the distance between them actually shortened.
Realizing that this couldn't go on, Shen Miao stopped, put Erbao on the ground, and instructed, "Erbao, run forward and don't stop, Mommy will catch up with you right away!"
"Mom!" Erbao pouted, on the verge of tears.
"Hurry up, run! Remember, don't look back!" Shen Miao shoved Erbao, not caring about anything else, as the Demon Spider immediately caught up.
Erbao cried and stumbled forward.
Shen Miao didn't stop for a moment. She called out the supermarket and took out the things she needed: clothes and a lighter. She remembered that many animals were afraid of fire. She didn't know if this thing was afraid of fire, but she would give it a try anyway.
She lit her clothes on fire and threw them forcefully at the demon spider.
"Squeak!"
Seeing a fireball hurtling towards him, the creature let out a strange cry, turned tail, and fled at top speed.
