After everyone watched over the Gu Master for a while, he woke up.
Compared to when he was vomiting blood, the Gu Master's complexion wasn't as bad, and he seemed to be in good spirits.
Shen Miao didn't know how to comfort him. Just as she was about to say something, the Gu Master spoke up himself, his tone calm: "Don't say anything. It was all my own choice. Go find someone. Don't waste time."
That's what they say, but these people are all injured or sick. Where are they going to find help? They'd be better off going in to deliver vegetables.
Finally, the Gu Master guided everyone to the Beast God's cave, where they rested and recuperated outside to regain their strength.
After about half an hour, everyone's strength had recovered, and the Gu Master had the Gu worms continue to guide them into the cave.
Shen Miao was a little uneasy and asked in a softer voice, "Won't the Beast God find us if we just go in like this?"
“The Beast God cannot solidify into a physical form for long, so there’s nothing to be afraid of,” the Gu Master explained.
Upon hearing this, Shen Miao relaxed slightly and followed the Gu worm into the cave. The cave was very deep, but the Gu worm seemed to know its way around inside.
Shen Miao followed behind, feeling a little uneasy, unsure whether she was worried about not being able to see Jiu Ying, or something else entirely.
She cared nothing for anything else in the cave, focusing solely on following the Gu worms.
Finally, after flying a distance, the Gu worm stopped. Shen Miao quickly stepped forward and called out, "Jiuying, Jiuying!"
There was an echo in the cave; she only heard the echo of her own voice, but not Jiuying's reply.
Shen Miao took a few steps forward, only to find that there was only one of Jiuying's clothes hanging there, nothing else.
Shen Miao grabbed the clothes and discovered that it was the same garment Jiu Ying wore on the day she disappeared.
She turned her head and saw that the cave was dark, but it seemed as if countless eyes were watching from the shadows, and for a moment, she felt a chill run down her spine.
"Oh no, we've been tricked!"
There is no Nine-Headed Serpent here at all, only a piece of clothing belonging to it. Clearly, the Beast God deliberately used this trick to lure them here.
Her heart sank.
"Get out! Get out now!" Shen Miao shouted sternly.
The group hurriedly walked out.
But it was too late. A strange laugh rang out in the cave. The sound wasn't loud, but Shen Miao found it extremely piercing, as if her eardrums were about to rupture.
She covered her ears with her hands, and tried to squat down in pain.
"Don't stop, keep going out!" Qingchen shouted.
Shen Miao staggered and rushed out with the others, but it was too late. A huge figure appeared in the cave like a ghost.
"Beast God!"
Shen Miao suddenly recalled her battle with the Beast God that night. The opponent also had such a tall figure, as if he had inexhaustible power.
She was somewhat stunned. They had already been unable to defeat the Beast God before, and now that he was in his lair, they were probably even less likely to be able to defeat him.
"Quick, get out of the cave through another entrance!"
Shen Miao shouted and turned to look for another exit.
With a rumble, countless stones fell from above, blocking the path ahead and forcing Shen Miao to retreat and face the Beast God head-on.
This forces them to take action!
Shen Miao gritted her teeth. Since she couldn't fool them, then so be it.
All of them were injured, and even if they went up together, they were no match for the Beast God. As for the Gu Master, he no longer had any natal Gu left to use.
Shen Miao did want to use cannonballs, but they were in a cave, unless they also wanted to perish inside with the Beast God.
After much deliberation, they realized that they were almost certainly doomed.
Their bodies were repeatedly knocked down, each person like a sandbag, being knocked to the ground again and again, but no one gave up. No matter how badly they were injured, they gritted their teeth and stood up.
Because I know that if I hold on a little longer, I can alleviate the pressure on the other person.
Bang! She slammed against the cave wall again and slid to the ground. Blood was choking her throat, and she couldn't utter a single word.
Qingchen landed nearby, slowly approaching, panting, and asked Shen Miao, "Do you still have that kind of thing you had last time, the one that you could hold in your hand and hit someone with one shot?"
"What?" Shen Miao's vision began to blur, and she couldn't tell if it was sweat or blood.
Qingchen, panting, repeated himself. Shen Miao understood his question, and a flash of inspiration struck her. That's right, the pistol. She had actually forgotten about the pistol.
But in her current state, even if she had a handgun, she wouldn't be able to fire it.
"I still have some, but I can't fire it now. My fingers are trembling," Shen Miao said intermittently.
Qingchen said calmly, "Take it out and give it to me. I'll do it."
Shen Miao took out a gun from her spatial storage, handed it to Qing Chen, and warned, "Be very careful."
She hoped Qingchen could hit the target with one shot, because if she missed and the Beast God reacted, Qingchen would likely be in trouble.
Qingchen didn't say anything mushy, only saying, "Wait for me."
Shen Miao paid no attention to the battle that followed. She was too tired, both exhausted and in pain. Her body didn't even feel like her own anymore. Lying on the ground, she felt like she was half dead.
It wasn't until a gunshot rang out that she was finally pulled back from her reverie.
She struggled to lift her upper body and asked anxiously, "Did you hit it? Ah, did you hit it?"
The response she received was a loud bang, the sound of that huge, hill-like thing crashing to the ground.
Shen Miao stared wide-eyed in astonishment. So, they killed the Beast God?
Shen Miao immediately sat up with a jolt, feeling no more tiredness, no more pain in her wounds, and completely recovered.
She stood up, supporting herself against the wall, and walked over step by step.
Qingchen and Lin Shousheng were examining the dead Beast God. Their expressions didn't seem particularly excited, which made Shen Miao a little uneasy. She couldn't help but ask, "Why don't you two seem happy about killing the Beast God?"
Lin Shousheng turned to look at her: "What we killed was not the Beast God's true form, but only an avatar."
"ah?"
Shen Miao was dumbfounded.
Therefore, the Beast God not only set a trap for her to fall into, but also a series of traps!
At this moment, Shen Miao didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"Whether it's the clone or the main body, it's good that they're dead. At least we're safe now." Shen Miao was very relieved.
She was able to kill one of the Beast God's avatars; sooner or later, she'll be able to kill the main body too!
The group stopped discussing the issue and began searching the cave thoroughly. It turned out that it was indeed a setup, and Jiuying was not there.
Emerging from the cave, Shen Miao was extremely dejected.
Once again, her hopes were dashed. She didn't know where to look for Jiuying, or whether he could hold on until the day she went to find him.
Shen Miao's depression didn't last long; she quickly rallied and began searching for news of Jiu Ying, using the most foolish methods of questioning. Surprisingly, she actually found a clue.
