Chapter 362 Picking Fruit

Shen Miao finally had some free time.

Huo Hu was managing Xuan Ran's army very well, so Shen Miao entrusted him with the task with peace of mind. Qing Chen and Jiu Ying would also go and visit, so she wouldn't have to worry about anything.

Whenever I have free time, I start thinking about food.

A while has passed since she last made juice, and Shen Miao is getting restless again.

This time, she didn't plan to go up the mountain to pick fruit, but instead took the fruit from her spatial storage. However, Da Bao didn't know this. He quietly went to the kitchen to take a look, but didn't see any fruit, so he quietly went up the mountain.

Da Bao was determined to pick as much fruit as possible for Chen Miaoyong, and he wasn't afraid of getting tired at all, but at this time of year, fruit was already scarce.

He searched for a long time before finally finding a fruit tree on the edge of a cliff.

Da Bao was overjoyed and ran over with his short legs.

The fruit tree was tall, and Da Bao had to climb it to pick the fruit. He was quite careful at first, but once his eyes fell on a big, plump fruit, he forgot everything else.

Its entire body was attached to the branch, with half of its body leaning outwards, just to reach the fruit.

So close, so very close...

Just then, the branch he was standing on suddenly snapped, and Da Bao's body plummeted straight down.

He groped futilely in the air with his little hands, only managing to grab a handful of leaves.

"Mother, Father!"

Da Bao felt a sharp pain and lost consciousness.

An old male beast was hunting nearby when it heard the noise. It ran out of the nearby woods and saw a small beastman lying on the ground with a pool of blood beneath him.

The old male beast walked over, patted Da Bao's cheek, and called out, "Little one, little one!"

Da Bao didn't respond. The old male beast checked his breathing and found that he was still breathing. He then checked his body and found that Da Bao's hands and feet were fine, but his head was injured.

He couldn't help but look up and mutter, "This kid is really lucky."

He stopped hunting and took Da Bao home with him.

After settling Da Bao on the bed, the old male beast fetched water and wiped Da Bao's face, hands, and feet clean. After washing Da Bao, the old male beast stared blankly at the clean-looking cub.

Her face is quite pretty, and it looks familiar; I feel like I've seen it somewhere before.

However, the old male beast was quite old and couldn't remember where he had seen the cub before. He just thought that he liked the cub and felt that the cub looked familiar.

"You absolutely must wake up," the old male beast murmured, stroking Da Bao's cheek.

The old male beast did nothing all day but guard Da Bao, bandaging his head and treating his abrasions.

Finally, in the afternoon, Da Bao woke up. He was overjoyed and went over to ask, "Little one, you're awake. Where does it hurt? Tell Grandpa."

Da Bao stared blankly at the unfamiliar face in front of him. It looked so old, just like the old orc in his memory, with so many wrinkles on its face.

"Who are you?"

“I am the grandfather who saved you. I found you at the bottom of the cliff. How did you end up there all by yourself? Whose child are you?” the old male beast asked.

Da Bao looked bewildered: "I'm at the bottom of the cliff, all alone, with my family..."

He suddenly looked pained, raised his hand to cover his head, and said in distress, "It hurts so much, it feels like a needle is pricking my head, it hurts so much."

The old male beast panicked and hurriedly pressed his head, saying, "Good boy, good boy, it doesn't hurt anymore. Grandpa won't ask anymore, he won't ask anymore."

Da Bao curled up in a ball, tears welling in his eyes from the pain.

The old male beast was heartbroken and wiped away his tears.

After a long while, Da Bao finally raised his head and said in a panic, "Grandpa, I don't remember very clearly. It seems like I went to pick fruit, and then, and then I fell down."

"It's alright, it's alright. You just can't remember for now. Once you've rested, you'll remember." The old male beast tried his best to reassure him.

Da Bao remained silent. He only hoped that the old man was right, because he felt that he needed to remember as soon as possible, otherwise someone would be very worried.

Who would be worried?

Da Bao can't think about it; if he does, his head will ache like it's about to explode.

The old male beast went to get food for Da Bao. Da Bao had been unconscious for most of the day and was already very hungry. When he saw the food, he instinctively reached out to grab it.

But suddenly a voice appeared in his memory, a voice that taught him to respect the elderly and care for the young, to be humble, and to be polite. Da Bao pursed his lips and said to the old male beast, "Grandpa, you eat first."

The old male beast beamed, then loosened the roasted meat a little further and said gently, "Grandpa ate it. This is for you. Eat up."

"Thank you, Grandpa." Da Bao then grabbed a piece of meat and put it in his mouth.

The meat wasn't prepared well and still had a bloody smell. Da Bao felt he hadn't eaten meat like this in a long time and almost threw up.

But he held back and didn't show it at all.

Strange, this meat looks normal. This is how they eat it in the tribe. Why would he complain about it?

He ate a small piece of meat, but couldn't eat anymore. He leaned listlessly against the headboard. Seeing his condition, the old male beast told him to rest and left without disturbing him.

On the other side, the three little ones returned to Shen Miao: "Mommy, Mommy, has Da Bao come back?"

Shen Miao was busy in the kitchen and didn't even turn her head: "Didn't Da Bao go out to play with you guys? Why is he looking for me?"

“But Da Bao disappeared after eating. He said he was going to pick fruit on the mountain,” Er Bao said quickly.

Shen Miao was startled and quickly asked, "What fruit are you picking? Who told him to come up the mountain?"

The children looked puzzled. "He went there himself. Didn't Mommy say she was going to make juice? Da Bao went up the mountain and said he wanted to pick more fruit. Hmm, Mommy, did you pick all this fruit from the mountain?"

The children quickly noticed the fruit Shen Miao had taken out of her spatial storage and excitedly crowded around it. However, Shen Miao ignored them and asked seriously, "Are you sure Da Bao went up the mountain?"

"Yes." The children drooled as they looked at the fruit.

Shen Miao got up and instructed her children, "You stay at home and don't go out. Mother is going to check on things."

After thinking for a moment, she called Qingchen again. Jiuying wanted to go with her, but Shen Miao refused: "Don't go. Stay at home and help me take care of the babies."

The two went up the mountain together and found their way to the fruit tree on the edge of the cliff. They saw a piece of torn clothing on the tree. Shen Miao took it down and saw that it was the clothes Da Bao was wearing today. Her heart sank.

Turning to look at Qingchen, he saw Qingchen staring at the broken part of the fruit tree, his expression gloomy.

The two of them, already thinking about something, remained silent and made their way down the cliff. At the bottom of the cliff, they saw a pool of congealed blood.

“Da Bao…” Shen Miao’s throat tightened, and she managed to utter a few words with difficulty.

Qingchen said decisively, "He will be fine."

Shen Miao took a breath, as if reassuring herself: "Yes, Da Bao will definitely be alright."
