Shen Miao appeared calm in front of everyone, but in reality, she was the most anxious one.
She fantasizes every day that Da Bao will get better immediately, but the Gu Master has not found a solution yet, and Shen Miao has to ask him three times a day.
The Gu Master was getting annoyed by her questions and scolded her, "With the way you're asking questions, how am I supposed to concentrate on my research? Go away, go back."
Shen Miao looked at the Gu Master, her eyes pleading, "Gu Master, please think of a way to save Da Bao. He's still so young. Can you bear to let him live like this for the rest of his life?"
The Gu Master was momentarily distracted and almost blurted it out, but luckily he reacted quickly and stopped himself in time. He said expressionlessly, "I was just thinking about it. I think Da Bao's condition has been pretty good lately. If he keeps it up, once we find a way, we can directly restore his memories."
Shen Miao returned home disappointed.
Watching her departing figure, the Gu Master let out a breath.
They're getting more and more difficult to deal with.
Suddenly, a soft voice sounded in my ear, "Are you really not going to tell her? Or you could just give it a try."
The Gu Master glanced at Lin Shousheng, who had appeared out of nowhere, and calmly said, "What's the point of trying? You know that method is too dangerous. If it doesn't work, it might not even cure Da Bao, and it could even cause problems for Shen Miao."
"Maybe they can both get better?"
“The probability is too low,” the Gu Master shook his head. “I never do things I’m not sure of.”
Lin Shousheng glanced at his friend. He knew his temper and knew that once he made a decision, he wouldn't easily change it. So he sighed and said no more.
"Da Bao, we're having braised pork for lunch today. It's his favorite dish. Eat more rice later." Shen Miao smiled and told Da Bao the menu.
Da Bao didn't react much; braised pork and the like were just a blank in his memory.
Shen Miao didn't mind. She made braised pork and boiled fish, and called the whole family together. Everyone sat around the table to eat, but Da Bao was very uncomfortable eating.
He sat there for ages without touching his chopsticks, not looking at anyone, just keeping his head down.
Shen Miao looked a little sad, but in the end she agreed to let Da Bao go back to his room. Da Bao left impatiently.
"He's just not used to it yet," Jiu Ying said dryly, trying to comfort him.
Shen Miao smiled bitterly. It wasn't a matter of not being used to it; it was that Da Bao was always in a state of confusion, and if this state wasn't changed, he would never get better.
Let's go ask the Gu Master again in a couple of days.
Unfortunately, after enduring several days, Shen Miao did not see the Gu Master and Lin Shousheng. She heard from the nearby beastmen that the two had gone to the mountains to gather herbs.
Upon hearing this, Shen Miao was somewhat disappointed and wanted to turn around and go back, but for some reason, she didn't leave immediately. Feeling upset, she sat down in Lin Shousheng's courtyard.
The place where she sat was where the Gu Master and Lin Shousheng often discussed matters together. Animal hides were always placed on the stone table, and there were still some rough drafts left by the two of them on them.
Shen Miao glanced at it casually, but then she froze, unable to resist picking up the animal hide and examining it closely.
Because it was written in a very messy way, it took Shen Miao a lot of effort to understand it.
She was overjoyed.
It turns out that it wasn't that I hadn't found a solution, but rather that I had already found one but hadn't told myself about it.
What are you holding?
Suddenly, the voice of the Gu Master rang out from behind.
Shen Miao turned around, holding the animal hide as if it were some rare treasure, and rushed to the Gu Master, saying incoherently, "Gu Master, help me, help me save Da Bao."
When the Gu Master realized that what he had written had been discovered, he was somewhat embarrassed and displeased. He pushed Shen Miao away and said, "I'm trying to figure something out. Don't rush, just wait patiently."
“But you’ve already come up with a solution,” Shen Miao handed him the animal hide. “Gu Master, this is what you wrote down yourself.”
The Gu Master's eyelids twitched. He grabbed the animal hide, threw it aside, and said gruffly, "This is useless. I just wrote it down."
Shen Miao refused to believe it and stared straight at the Gu Master with a gaze that made the Gu Master want to look away.
It took a full half minute before Shen Miao spoke, her voice hoarse, "Gu Master, I know you're worried about the risks, but I'm not afraid. Please help me, use this method, I'm not afraid at all."
The Gu Master knew she had seen through him and that there was no point in hiding it any longer, so he sighed and said, "Chen Miao, there's no need. Really, give me some more time. Maybe I can think of a better way."
"Really, Gu Master? But I can't wait any longer. Perhaps you can think of something, but Da Bao is in such a state, he can't wait either. Please, just use this method. I'll bear all the consequences myself," Shen Miao pleaded.
The Gu Master looked at this disciple. He had witnessed how stubborn and obstinate Shen Miao was when he was teaching her Gu techniques, so it would be difficult to change her mind.
"Are you sure?" the Gu Master asked, somewhat helplessly.
Shen Miao nodded solemnly: "I'm sure, Gu Master. No matter what the outcome, I will always be grateful to you."
This couldn't be kept from Qingchen. When Shen Miao told him, she omitted the important points and only mentioned the irrelevant ones. However, Qingchen was very clever and keenly sensed that something was wrong. He pressed for details, asking, "Are you sure this method is okay?"
“There is a problem,” Shen Miao said vaguely. “Any method of saving a life will have some risks, but we can’t give up on saving a life just because of a little risk, right?”
Qingchen looked at her intently: "Just a little risk?"
Shen Miao thought for a moment, then suddenly fell silent.
She knew the risks were huge, and that even she and Da Bao might get into trouble, but so what? They had to try.
"I promise, you and Da Bao will both be fine," Qingchen suddenly added.
Shen Miao suddenly looked up at Qing Chen, and said in disbelief, "You agreed?"
Qingchen looked at her. What was there to refuse? Shen Miao was willing to risk her life for Da Bao, so why was he being so coy?
He believed they would be alright.
The Gu Master's surgery took a full day. During that time, only Lin Shousheng assisted him, and no one else was allowed to get close, not even Qingchen.
Nobody knows what they did while locked in the room.
When the door opened, Qingchen had been standing outside for most of the day, his legs were stiff. He wanted to go forward and ask the Gu Master, but when he took a step, he almost fell over.
"The surgery went smoothly and was very successful. They'll be fine once they wake up," Lin Shousheng said with a smile, as if he could read his mind.
Qingchen's heart, which had been pounding in her chest, finally settled down.
