Shen Miao led the beastman to Lin Shousheng's residence. Knowing that the latter could cure him, she went back first.
As she was nearing home, she saw her neighbor, a bird-beast, returning from the other side, looking preoccupied. Upon seeing Shen Miao, the bird-beast asked, "Shen Miao, did you manage to buy any salt?"
Shen Miao was taken aback for a moment, then mumbled, "We haven't finished using up the salt at home yet, what's wrong?"
The bird-beastman said, "Even if you haven't used it all, hurry up and stock up on some salt. I heard some news today from the beastmen from the distant sea that salt prices are going to rise."
"Why?" Shen Miao asked subconsciously.
"What else could it be? The sea beastmen want to raise prices, right?" the bird-beastman said, scoffing.
Shen Miao asked, puzzled, "Then let's not buy theirs, let's buy others' cheaper ones."
The bird-beastman looked at her with a strange gaze, as if mocking Shen Miao for asking such a silly question. After a moment, he said, "Salt is only available to the beastmen of the distant sea. If we don't trade with them, we won't have any salt to eat."
So they monopolized the market; no wonder they were so arrogant.
After talking with the bird-beastman, Shen Miao returned home and first went to the kitchen to check on the salt. It's no wonder she only thought of this now; her supermarket had followed her here the moment she transmigrated.
After that, whether Shen Miao was roasting meat or stir-frying vegetables, she used the refined salt from her space.
She rummaged through the corner of the kitchen and found a small bag of something that looked like salt. It was a bit yellow and looked rough. She dipped her finger in it and licked it. It was salty, but it had a bitter taste.
Using this kind of thing to grill meat won't make it taste very good.
Shen Miao was surprised to find that the people here were consuming this kind of coarse salt. She knew how to improve and purify it, but first she needed the raw materials.
Shen Miao asked Qing Chen, and Qing Chen said something similar to what the bird-beastman said. They bought their salt from the distant sea beastmen. This was a secret of their tribe, unknown to outsiders, which is why the price of salt has always been very high.
Every year, they have to pay a high price to buy salt from the sea beastmen, and they can't buy too much because they can't afford to pay for too many supplies.
Qingchen was very worried when he heard that salt prices were going to rise again.
"We're almost out of salt at home."
These days, Shen Miao has been grilling meat and making all sorts of delicious food, not to mention how much salt she used.
Shen Miao felt a little guilty and coughed, saying, "There are still some."
Qingchen just watched her quietly.
Shen Miao felt a sense of foreboding. What did that look mean? Had the villain figured something out? Perhaps she had been too arrogant lately, using many things directly for convenience.
But since she'd already used it, if Qingchen asked, she could just say she'd figured it out herself.
Thinking of this, Shen Miao regained her confidence and even revealed a little about her ability to make salt. Qing Chen was very surprised: "You can make salt?"
"Yes, when I was little, I met a wandering orc. He said he came from the distant sea and told me about the salt-making process. He probably thought I was too young and didn't take me seriously." Shen Miao became more and more skilled at making up stories, and even she believed them.
Qingchen no longer doubted him, but instead asked, "Can you make salt now?"
If possible, it would be a tremendous benefit for the entire tribe, meaning they would no longer be subject to the control of the sea beastmen.
“It is possible, but we need to find the raw materials, namely the salt-making equipment,” Shen Miao said without changing her expression.
Qingchen asked, "What is that?"
"The sea," Shen Miao asked, "How far are we from the sea?"
If it's not too far, she can directly use seawater to make salt.
Qingchen shook his head: "It's not far, less than half a day's journey."
Shen Miao slapped her hands together excitedly and said, "That's great! I'll go check it out tomorrow."
Qingchen couldn't stop her, and Shen Miao set off the next day. She entrusted the children and Qingchen to her mother. She took some dry food with her and traveled along the way, stopping and starting. Finally, just as the sun was about to reach its zenith, she saw the sea.
The azure sea stretched to the horizon, its waves gently lapping against the shore, and the wind carried a salty, damp scent.
Shen Miao was instantly excited.
This is a giant sea bream. I never thought I'd see the ocean in this world.
Shen Miao ran around on the beach for a while, then gradually calmed down. Her main purpose was to make salt, which was the most urgent task. As for playing, she could bring the kids over later when Qing Chen recovered.
Shen Miao immediately began to work.
She took a large pot and a good stove from the supermarket, lit a fire by the sea, and started boiling salt.
When the seawater in the pot began to boil, Shen Miao went for a walk around the neighborhood, found a place to dig two pools, and poured seawater into them. This way, the sun would dry the seawater quickly, and she would be able to harvest a lot of salt.
I worked on it until almost sunset, and finally it was done.
The seawater in the pot had been boiled away, revealing crystals containing impurities. This was sea salt, but it could not be eaten directly and needed to be further purified.
However, Shen Miao planned to do this step when she returned home. By the time she returned home with a bag of sea salt, it was already completely dark. The children were all waiting for her with eager eyes. When they saw her return, they rushed towards her like little birds.
Shen Miao was in a good mood. She comforted each of the little ones and then went to Qing Chen's room excitedly to show him the coarse salt she had brought back.
Qingchen's eyes widened in surprise, his face filled with disbelief. Shen Miao had actually done it.
"This isn't good enough yet. We need to continue filtering tomorrow. I'm too tired today, so I plan to rest early. See? I kept my word." Shen Miao's tail was practically wagging.
Qingchen said with difficulty, "This is already the same as the salt sold by the sea beastmen."
Shen Miao pursed her lips. Didn't she just say that was salt? She'll definitely make even better salt and blow everyone's mind!
The next day, when Shen Miao was refining coarse salt in the courtyard, a strange beastman walked in. The children stopped playing and stared at him warily when they saw the beastman.
"Who are you?" the little boy asked in his childish voice.
The orc smiled amicably and asked Xiao Sibao, "I'm looking for a female beast named Shen Miao. I... I saw her."
Shen Miao put down her work, stood up, and looked at the other person: "You were looking for me?"
The orc laughed: "Don't you recognize me? I'm the person you saved by the roadside the day before yesterday. Thank you so much, I would have died there if it weren't for you."
That orc is really straightforward.
Shen Miao suddenly realized that this was the orc. The orc had been cleaned up and looked neat and tidy. No wonder she hadn't recognized him at first.
The difference is too great; you really wouldn't recognize it without a discerning eye.
"It's nothing, just a small favor. Besides, it was Lin Shousheng who saved you." Shen Miao didn't seem to care, truly not taking it to heart.
