Chapter 37 The Cold-Hearted General 6

Before they knew it, Ali's little white rabbits were old enough to be made into braised rabbit meat. Then, people came to the village—a few strong young men.

Ah Li knew that it was the person who came to find Yan Siming with the jade pendant.

However, Yan Siming has not returned from the mountains these past few days.

Some hunters in the village recalled that a stranger had been injured by a wild boar, bled to death, and was buried by them.

Where did you bury the person?

"It's on that hill over there."

"Take us there!"

A group of people went to that grave and even dug it up.

But the coffin was empty when it was opened, which nearly scared the hunters who had buried the man to death.

"Is this place haunted?"

The group of people gathered around the grave did not look well.

When Yan Siming heard the commotion, those people immediately recognized the general and their eyes turned red.

However, Yan Siming shook his head almost imperceptibly, telling them not to come looking for him at this time, and then he turned and went into the mountains.

Knowing that Yan Siming was safe and sound, the men left some money for the hunters who had led the way and told them not to tell anyone else before they left.

The hunters, who were initially afraid of the empty coffin, lost their fear after receiving the money and guessed that these people must know what was going on. They took the money and went home.

After circling the mountains, Yan Siming waited for them at the village entrance. However, as he looked towards the place where they had been staying, he decided it was best not to go back to say goodbye, lest he upset Ah Li.

A moment later, the men appeared beside Yan Siming, clasped their hands in a fist salute, and said, "General, we are late."

"It's not your fault, let's go."

Yan Siming had just gone to Grandpa Wang's place, handed over the game he had hunted, and asked him to take good care of Ah Li.

Grandpa Wang neither agreed nor disagreed. He said, "That girl Ali is very silly. If you don't go to say goodbye, she will come looking for you."

Yan Siming thought about his own situation on the battlefield, where he might not have a tomorrow. He said, "If she can't find her, she'll know to go back."

Grandpa Wang sighed, and he didn't say anything more.

Yan Siming also turned and left, but half of his face seemed to be covered by a shadow, making it impossible to see his expression.

Yan Siming left, and Ali put down the rabbit she was holding. She didn't actually like eating rabbit meat at all, because rabbits were so cute, and they tasted good whether braised or steamed. However, she couldn't eat too many.

However, Ahri still chased the rabbit into the mountains, shouting, "Rabbit, don't run away!"

When Grandpa Wang led the villagers to find Ali, Ali cried and said, "Grandpa Wang, the rabbit is gone."

Ahri cried very sadly, knowing she would be alone again.

Contrary to what others might perceive, Ahri sighed inwardly: the original owner's emotions had ultimately affected her.

Grandpa Wang didn't mention Yan Siming at this time, but only comforted Ali, saying, "It's okay, Grandpa Wang will catch another fat and big rabbit for Ali later."

"Um."

Ah Li's eyes were red from crying, and her pitiful appearance made the villagers who had come with Grandpa Wang to look for her start to have an idea.

That person left without saying a word. Did they not want the silly girl anymore?

However, since that person had just left, they wanted to wait and see. So, the villagers didn't say much, and once they found the person, they all went down the mountain together.

Ali and Grandpa Wang helped each other down the mountain.

In the time that followed, Grandpa Wang would visit Ali whenever he had free time, without mentioning Yan Siming.

Ali also started interacting with some people in the village. Sometimes he would embroider with the village girls and old ladies, and sometimes he would go fishing in the river with the village boys.

Seeing Ah Li like this, Grandpa Wang gradually felt relieved.

Today, Ali was making flower wreaths with some girls when someone secretly nudged her and asked, "Ali, who are you going to give your flower wreath to?"

Ahri smiled but didn't say anything. Instead, she finished braiding the last bit, put it on her head, and asked, "Do I look good like this?"

Those around her immediately thought Ahri looked really good, and they all said in unison, "She looks great! The villagers even asked us to ask what kind of person you like so they can get to know you."

Ahri held the flower wreath on her head with both hands and said in a muffled voice, "I don't need to be alone, I'm fine on my own."

However, the baby still needs to be born.

Ahri is also troubled. She has already met a good one, and now no one else can catch her eye.

Seeing that Ah Li was unhappy about this topic, and since some of the girls had seen what Yan Siming looked like before, they stopped talking to Ah Li about it and started chatting about other things.

Ah Li didn't dwell on it any longer, and the group started chatting and laughing again.

However, the young men who were eavesdropping outside the window looked worried.

They hadn't really paid much attention to the silly girl before, but lately she'd become increasingly beautiful, and they'd grown fond of her.

Now, if you try to talk to Silly Girl, she runs away faster than a rabbit the moment you see her. If you didn't know better, you'd think they were some kind of monster.

Grandpa Wang was also wary of them and wouldn't budge an inch.

Villagers sent matchmakers to visit Grandpa Wang, but he turned them all away.

Grandpa Wang added, "Ali isn't stupid, she's just a bit naive. If anyone has any bad intentions, they'll have to ask this old man for permission first. Go away, go away."

However, sometimes he would still take out a small bamboo tube containing signal flares. Yan Siming had given it to him after returning a few times and seeing that Ah Li was having a good time.
