Ah Li remained silent the entire way, and Yan Siming didn't say a word either.
The group was in a hurry, and when they arrived at a border city, Yan Siming took Ah Li directly to his general's mansion.
Those fifty elite soldiers also returned to their camp.
After Yan Siming helped Ah Li dismount, he led Ah Li through the main gate.
However, just as he entered the mansion, Yan Siming suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood and collapsed amidst the exclamations of the mansion's steward.
As Yan Siming collapsed, he reached out and touched Ah Li's face, saying, "Don't be afraid."
"Yan Siming!"
Ahri shouted and was pushed aside.
The steward, Uncle Yan, called over a few servants and had them help Yan Siming into the room. He also sent someone to fetch a military doctor.
Ahri wanted to follow, but was stopped by someone who said, "Young lady, the general is still recovering from serious injuries. If you care about him, don't cause trouble here."
The person was dressed as a man, but Ahri could still tell that it was a woman.
Seeing that Ah Li was staring in the direction Yan Siming had disappeared, the man called out, "Uncle Yan, could you have someone arrange a guest room for this young lady?"
Uncle Yan, no longer anxious, calmly said, "Okay, Yang Wenshu."
Uncle Yan summoned a rough-looking old woman and had her take Ah Li to the guest room.
Ah Li, carrying her bundle, was politely invited over by the old woman.
She didn't know how much time had passed before Ahri heard someone coming to find her.
It was already dark outside, and Ahri's room was also dark.
The people outside shouted twice, then stopped.
Inside the room, Ah Li blinked. She kept thinking, Yan Siming was injured, seriously injured, so why did he still go to save her himself? Why didn't he let someone else go?
Does that mean her life is life, but his isn't?
Suddenly, there was light outside, and the sound of people talking could be heard.
Yang Wenshu said in a gruff voice, "Yan Siming, that girl is probably already asleep. What are you doing here?"
Yan Siming didn't say anything, but instead walked to the door.
Just as Yan Siming was about to raise his hand to knock on the door, Ali stood at the door and opened it.
Yan Siming's face was pale, and he said with some grievance, "Why don't you come and see me?"
Ali took two steps back, stared intently at Yan Siming, and said, "I can't help, I'll only make things worse."
Isn't that so?
Yang Wenshu immediately responded.
However, Yan Siming did not turn around to look at her. Instead, he went into the guest room and closed the door.
Yan Siming looked at the dark room and asked, "Why aren't the lights on?"
"I don't know where there's a fire, it's not that I don't want to light one."
After speaking without a trace of emotion, Ah Li went up and helped Yan Siming, who seemed very weak.
Yan Siming pursed his lips, took out a tinderbox from the table, lit the lamp, and said, "Then why aren't you coming to find me?"
Ahri remained silent, simply helping the person to sit down at the table.
Yan Siming looked down and carefully examined Ah Li's face, then asked, "Are you angry?"
"No."
Ah Li wanted to pour herself a glass of water, but when she touched the cold kettle, she withdrew her hand.
Yan Siming noticed Ah Li's actions, and his expression slowly turned cold. He said, "It seems that my servants are slacking off."
Ah Li didn't say anything. She was actually glad that it wasn't the dead of winter. Otherwise, if there wasn't a thin blanket in the guest room and it was so cold and deserted, she might have frozen to death.
Yan Siming stood up and asked, "Where's your luggage?"
Before Ah Li could speak, Yan Siming walked to the bedside, picked up the bed, and said, "Come on, live with me."
"This is against etiquette," Ahri said softly.
Yan Siming pretended not to hear, and pulled Ah Li to open the door and come out.
Yang Wenshu was still waiting outside. When she saw Yan Siming come out, a smile appeared on her face, but it disappeared when she saw Ali following behind Yan Siming.
"General, what's going on?"
Yan Siming pulled Ah Li toward his residence, saying loudly, "She is my wife, so she should eat and live with me. I just don't understand why the servants in this mansion have arranged for her to stay in the guest room?"
Ah Li was surprised, but she only glanced at Yan Siming secretly and did not refute him.
Yang Wenshu, who was standing to the side, seemed to be hurt by these words. She asked sharply, "General, when will you get married? Didn't you say that you wouldn't get married?"
Yan Siming said, "I never said I wouldn't get married. And when I get married should have nothing to do with Yang Wenshu."
“General?” Yang Wenshu stared intently at Yan Siming with red eyes, his gaze filled with sorrow.
Yan Siming ignored him and called out, "Uncle Yan, see the guest out."
"Okay, I'm leaving!"
Yang Wenshu bit her lower lip, turned around and left in a fit of anger.
Uncle Yan followed behind her and saw her out of the mansion.
Ah Li silently followed Yan Siming back to his room, where a meal had been prepared.
After Yan Siming pressed Ali down to sit at the table, he said, "Let's eat."
Ah Li glanced at the food in front of her, then at the bowl of bitter medicine in front of Yan Siming, before asking, "Are you badly injured?"
Yan Siming smiled and said, "It's just a minor injury, nothing serious."
"oh."
Ah Li didn't press the matter further, and instead continued eating her meal.
Yan Siming didn't say anything more. Seeing that Ali was eating quickly, he knew that Ali was starving, so he said, "Eat slowly."
However, when he looked at the bowl of medicine in front of him, his eyes were full of resistance.
