Chapter 455 The Palace Maid Who Wanted to Leave the Palace (3)

Time passed slowly, and Dou Xin leaned against Ah Li and fainted.

Ahri reached out and patted her head, murmuring, "It's alright, everything will be alright again."

After an unknown amount of time, Consort Mei entered.

She noticed that Ah Li was holding Dou Xin, and Dou Xin was leaning on Ah Li in a very dependent way.

Consort Mei slowly walked over and leaned against Dou Xin, smiled at Ali, and didn't say much.

The next second, Dou Xin woke up, her eyes clear. She looked at Ali and, for some reason, suddenly felt very wronged. She hugged Ali tightly. She wanted to say a lot, but didn't know where to begin.

Some words are right on the tip of your tongue, but when it comes time to say them, you forget them.

Ah Li raised her hand and patted Dou Xin, "Now you're free."

Dou Xin sobbed, "You...you're back!"

Ahri felt a jolt; it was a system electrical warning. She was teetering on the edge of a foul.

At this moment, Consort Mei sat up, took Dou Xin's hand, and asked in disbelief, "Are you alright?"

Previously, she couldn't even speak properly.

Dou Xin turned back to look at Consort Mei, her earlier aggrieved expression gone, and instead said, "Mei Zi? How come you've gotten so old?"

Consort Mei was initially quite excited because Dou Xin had recovered, but upon hearing this, she went to fetch a bronze mirror and said, "Look at yourself, you've aged too."

Dou Xin took the bronze mirror and carefully examined her face. She said, "Time cannot defeat beauty, so I will never grow old."

Consort Mei looked at Dou Xin with tears in her eyes, but Dou Xin turned to look at Ali, who was very familiar to her.

Ah Li was standing quietly to the side, her head down, not moving any closer to Dou Xin.

Dou Xin slowly withdrew her gaze. She closed her eyes briefly, and when she opened them again, she was once again the ruthless, cold-hearted, and cunning queen she always was.

Even though she is old now, she still has her own identity.

Consort Mei almost cried tears of joy; the Queen she knew was back.

Dou Xin raised her hand to tie her hair up, then changed out of her cumbersome dress and walked out of the house looking capable and efficient.

Consort Mei took out the waist token she always carried with her; it was Dou Xin's waist token, a symbol of her status as a prince of a different surname.

Dou Xin looked up at the sky, then turned back to look at Ali.

Ah Li stood there in the dimly lit room.

"You, come with me."

Ah Li looked up at Dou Xin, who was reaching out her hand to her.

Ahri walked out of the dimly lit palace step by step, and Dou Xin was waiting for her.

Consort Mei quietly followed Dou Xin, who walked out of the Cold Palace step by step with her head held high.

After years of living in a daze, she finally came to her senses.

But she won't live much longer either.

Dou Xin walked step by step toward the palace gate, still carrying her former confidence and pride.

Until that bright yellow robe appeared at the palace gate, along with a row of Imperial Guards.

Dou Xin stopped and looked at Ah Li. "Do you think I'll be able to leave here this time?"

Ahri answered very seriously, "Yes."

Dou Xin smiled and continued walking forward.

The current emperor stood there, exuding an imposing aura without anger, with a sword hanging at his waist.

Dou Xin walked up to him and paused slightly. "Are you going to stop me too?"

"Your subject dares not, your subject only wishes to return your sword to you."

The emperor unfastened the sword from his waist and handed it to Dou Xin.

Dou Xin tugged at the corners of her lips, took the sword from the emperor's hand, and continued toward the palace gate.

The Imperial Guards retreated to both sides, and Consort Mei and Ali followed Dou Xin out of the palace.

Just then, an old eunuch ran over.

The emperor looked at the old eunuch who had suddenly run over and said, "She is conscious now. The late emperor imprisoned her for half her life, and now it is time to set her free."

The old eunuch suddenly knelt down towards the palace gate. She should have been free of all worries, but they were holding her back.

She finally left the palace.

At this moment, Consort Mei walked to Dou Xin's side and said, "Your Highness, let's wait here. My people should be here soon."

"Then you wait here."

Dou Xin turned to look at Ali and said, "Walk with me for a bit."

Ahri agreed.

Dou Xin beckoned Ah Li over, hung her sword on Ah Li's waist, and said, "Back then..."

Unable to say anything more, Dou Xin didn't continue speaking. Instead, she took Ah Li's hand and walked along the street.

Ah Li followed quietly. At that time, she had told Dou Xin that if she had the chance, she would like to touch the sword and wield it beautifully.

I don't know how long I walked, but a lake came into view.

Dou Xin took Ali onto a boat and asked the boatman to drive the boat to the middle of the lake.

She pulled Ahri down to sit with her at the bow of the boat, and said, "I have nothing left now. Meizi is my best sister, she will take good care of you."

"And what about you?"

Dou Xin leaned slowly against Ali and said, "I don't belong to this world. I've forgotten who I came with. So, don't give me a grand funeral. Just cremate me and scatter my ashes somewhere."

Ah Li's hand was held tightly by Dou Xin, who said, "I don't know why, but I just feel so good to have met you again."

On the shore, Consort Mei arrived with a group of people.

Dou Xin continued, "At that time, I didn't want to be with that person, so he started targeting the people around me. I just wanted to be free and didn't want to be trapped by love and romance."
