Nan Yan looked at Ali with a deep gaze and said in a very low and slow voice, "Okay, let's go have our farewell dinner."
Ah Li, holding the candied hawthorn, walked happily toward the restaurant ahead.
Nan Yan followed quietly behind her, very calmly.
The restaurant was doing very well, and several waiters were busy, barely having time to breathe.
However, as soon as Ahri stepped inside, the waiter came to greet her, saying, "Please come in, sir."
At this moment, Nan Yan spoke up, "You should have private rooms on the second floor, right?"
"Yes, sir."
The waiter, swaying a white handkerchief over his shoulder, called out towards the manager, "Two people in the private room on the second floor!"
The shopkeeper looked this way and was immediately met with Nan Yan's icy gaze.
Why did the boss come over today?
And they came here to eat?
The shopkeeper glanced at Ali and made up his mind. The owner's clothes were very shabby today, so he must be plotting something unknown.
Then they just need to cooperate.
The waiter led Nan Yan and Ali up to the second floor and pushed open the door to a private room with the character 'bamboo' hanging on the door.
Ali noticed a painting of green bamboo in the corner and said to the waiter, "Bring up some of your restaurant's signature dishes. Money is no object."
Ah Li then pulled out another silver note from her sleeve, acting as if she were a wealthy person who didn't lack money.
"Alright, please wait a moment, sir."
The waiter took the silver notes from Ah Li, glanced at Nan Yan discreetly, and then left.
Nan Yan walked to the table and sat down. He poured two glasses of water and said, "Drink some water. You must be thirsty after all this time."
Ah Li sat down, picked up her cup without ceremony and took a sip. She added, "It's good that I can see it. I don't have to be careful."
“Yes, it’s good that we can see now,” Nan Yan agreed.
Ali took a couple of sips of tea, turned to look at the painting on the wall, and said, "This bamboo painting is really beautiful. It's unsigned, I wonder which master painted it."
Nan Yan didn't put down the teacup from his lips. He asked casually, "You also know about painting?"
"I don't understand, but I just feel comfortable looking at this painting."
Ah Li wasn't embarrassed at all. She continued to pour herself water and said, "This tea tastes quite pleasant, like flower tea."
"Yes, it's fruit tea."
Nan Yan put down his teacup and watched as Ah Li poured herself another cup, slowly sipping it while occasionally moving her lips and saying, "I can't tell what kind of fruit this fruit tea is made of."
Nan Yan said, "It's citron; drinking some will help with appetite."
"The restaurant owner is a smart man; this drink will make people eat more."
Ahri finished speaking with a smile, and at that moment the waiter brought the food.
After the waiter set out the food, Nan Yan picked up the teapot on the table and said to the waiter, "We're almost finished drinking, go and get some more."
"Alright, please wait a moment, sir."
The waiter sensed there was still water in the teapot, but since the owner had asked him to pour some, he went to do so.
The waiter took the teapot away, and the innkeeper beckoned to him, asking, "Did you enjoy your meal, sir?"
"The master hasn't eaten yet, but he asked me to come down and get water."
"Pretending to be asleep?"
The shopkeeper placed his hand on the counter and asked again, "What were the exact words?"
The waiter mimicked Nan Yan's words: "We're almost finished drinking, go and get some more."
After listening, the shopkeeper pondered for a moment, then whispered instructions to the waiter.
Soon, the waiter carried up a teapot full of water.
After Nan Yan took it, he dismissed the servant.
After the waiter left, Ah Li had almost finished eating, and she asked Nan Yan to pour her a cup of tea.
Nan Yan touched the outside of the teapot; it wasn't hot. He then poured Ali another cup of tea.
Ali took the teacup, raised it, and said to Nan Yan, "Thank you for taking care of me during this time. I hope we can meet again someday."
Nan Yan also raised his teacup, watching Ah Li down the tea in one gulp, as if he were drinking tea like wine.
After finishing his drink, Ali remarked, "This restaurant is great! The food is delicious, the tea is excellent, and the paintings are beautiful. It was worth the money."
He prepared the fruit tea, he painted the pictures, and the restaurant belonged to him; praising these things was tantamount to praising him.
Nan Yan smiled as he looked at Ali, and Ali smiled back at him.
After an unknown amount of time, Ahri put her hand on her head and said, "I feel a little dizzy."
Nan Yan went over and helped the person up, saying, "If you faint, I'll take you back."
"Okay, let's go back."
Ah Li mumbled these words, then nestled softly into Nan Yan's arms and fell asleep.
Nan Yan helped the person up and poured the tea from the pot on the table into the potted plant next to them.
There's something wrong with this tea.
The waiter didn't leave after serving the tea; he waited outside the door.
After Nan Yan carried Ah Li out, he went inside to tidy up.
As the waiter tidied up, he thought to himself: "The shopkeeper is indeed the shopkeeper; he knows everything about the owner, just like a tapeworm in his stomach."
The way the host held the person in his arms, like a precious treasure, was so different from how the two of them had acted when they first arrived and were unfamiliar with each other.
However, the shopkeeper was overthinking things. He was used to trying to guess what his employer was thinking. When he heard the waiter say "fill the water," he interpreted it as "fill the medicine to make people sleep."
Otherwise, if there's still tea in the teapot, why would the host have it refilled?
Actually, Nan Yan saw that Ah Li really liked the tea, so he wanted to have more brought up so that she could have a couple of sips to cleanse her palate after her meal.
Now, Nan Yan felt that this outcome was not unacceptable. The way this person looked sleeping in his arms was truly adorable.
"Master."
