Gou Dan could easily read the expression on Ah Li's face. He glared at her irritably, then kicked a thick tree next to him.
The moment he kicked the tree, his face turned even paler, but he held it in.
Ahri showed no mercy, pointing at the person and bursting into laughter, "Hahaha, that's hilarious! You're so weak, yet you're kicking a tree? What are you doing?!"
As she laughed, Ah Li looked up at the treetop, and slowly her smile faded. It turned out that the tree was bearing fruit.
Dog Egg stood leaning against the tree and said, "I'm injured and can't climb up now. Go up and pick some."
For children who grow up in the village, climbing trees is an essential skill, to say the least.
Ah Li quickly climbed up, not carrying the fruit with her, but picking one and throwing it down.
Dog Egg was prepared for the person in the tree to throw fruit at him, and for him to dodge it. However, the fruit just fell in front of him and didn't hit him at all.
Dog Egg looked up at Ali picking fruit from the tree, and he watched for as long as Ali picked fruit.
He originally thought that once they escaped the village, they would go their separate ways.
But now he feels that it's not so bad to depend on this person for survival.
Seeing that she had picked enough, Ah Li stopped picking and slid down the tree.
She wiped the fruit with her clothes and then ate it.
The first fruit tasted so-so, but the second one was a bit sweeter.
Seeing that Ah Li was eating with relish, Gou Dan picked up a few pieces, wiped them off casually, and started eating as well.
The fruit he ate tasted very sour and astringent, but he didn't spit it out because it was something the man had gone to great lengths to pick.
Ali noticed that Gou Dan looked sour, but she didn't laugh. She just said, "We'll pick a little more later, and then we'll continue on our way."
Dog Egg swallowed the sour fruit, and after a while, asked, "So, have you decided where you want to go?"
Ahri's eyelashes trembled; it seemed this person didn't want to run anymore?
Dog Egg's expression gradually calmed down. He said, "Let's find a place to settle down. Once I feel better, I'll be able to go out and find something to eat."
It means to settle down, not to make a home.
Ahri said, "Okay, let's settle in first and then make arrangements later."
Ahri picked up a few fruits and put them in her bosom; she was going to find a place where people could live.
Soon, Ahri discovered a large tree with a hole in it, which was dark inside but looked quite dry. It was so big that it would take a dozen adults to hug it.
Ah Li wanted to turn back to look for Gou Dan, but found that Gou Dan was following her at a distance. When she turned around, he said, "Have you found a place to stay?"
"Hmm, would you like to go in and take a look?"
A sly glint flashed in Ahri's eyes. She wanted him to go in first to see if there were any snakes or other small animals inside.
Suddenly, Gou Dan felt a sharp pain on his face. He clutched his chest, shook his head, and said, "No, I feel pain all over my body."
After saying that, Gou Dan leaned to the side, as if he was really in so much pain that he couldn't bear it anymore.
Ahri didn't intend to expose him; he was the villain, and she was there to win him over.
"Okay, I'll go take a look."
Ali picked up a few stones and threw them into the tree hole. There was an echo, and no other animals were startled and ran out.
Ahri walked over, picked up a twig, and waved it inside.
After confirming there were no unusual noises, Ahri bent down slightly and climbed inside.
It looked pitch black from the outside, but once inside you could see a bit more clearly. There were many fallen leaves on the ground, as well as quite a few withered twigs and spider webs of various sizes.
