Chapter 6 Huangling Village

The afternoon time passed slowly in this non-stop journey, until the evening, when the sun gradually set in the west, and the red disk sank below the horizon little by little.

As the sun sets, the sky gradually darkens and the surrounding scenery becomes blurry.

At this time, many villagers were tired and hungry, their feet felt as heavy as if they were filled with lead, and every step they took was extremely difficult. No one really wanted to go on.

Seeing how exhausted everyone looked, Zhou Shitou quickly walked up to the village chief and said to him sincerely, "Chief, I remember there's a village two miles ahead. Why don't we stay there for the night so we can get some rest and recover our strength? What do you think?"

After hearing Zhou Shitou's proposal, the village chief lowered his head and thought for a while. After weighing the pros and cons, he felt that this was indeed the best way at the moment, so he nodded in agreement.

Zhou Shitou was originally an experienced hunter. He had been hunting in the wild all year round. He was familiar with all kinds of situations in the wild and had sufficient experience in the wild.

In this wilderness, although there are many people, there are still many safety hazards. If we can stay in the village for one night, it will be much safer than making do with accommodation in this wilderness.

The village chief strode to the middle of the team, picked up the gong, and struck it with all his strength.

"Dangdangdang..." The sound of the gong was extremely loud. In an instant, the noisy noise stopped and everyone turned their eyes to the village chief.

Su Yonglin cleared his throat and shouted, "Everyone, listen to me. There's a village not far ahead, only about two miles away. Everyone, make some extra effort and persevere. Once we get to the village, we can find shelter and rest. Then we can have a good sleep."

When everyone heard this, they realized that they were only two miles away from the place where they could rest. They seemed to see hope and immediately regained their spirits.

Everyone encouraged each other, and their pace became hurried, speeding up to move forward.

Sure enough, before it got completely dark, everyone successfully reached the outskirts of Huangling Village.

The village chief stood quietly outside Huangling Village. When he looked up, he saw that the whole village was pitch black and so silent that there seemed to be no sound at all. This quiet atmosphere made the village chief feel a little creepy.

It should be around 7 o'clock in the evening now. It is summer and it gets dark late. At this time, every household in the village should be bustling with activity, busy making various preparations for the upcoming busy farming season. How could they go to bed so early? It is too abnormally quiet.

Su Yonglin stood aside, feeling doubtful. He was thinking about going into the village in the dark to seek shelter. He felt uneasy and needed to find someone to accompany him.

So he shouted loudly: "Hey, Da Hu, Wen Jun, come here, come with me into the village and ask if we can stay here for one night."

Soon, Su Hu and Su Wenjun responded and walked forward quickly.

The village chief felt completely safe as he watched the two tall and strong men. They followed closely behind him, slowly walking into the dark and somewhat eerie village.

Huangling Village is quite large. In the past, I thought it should be a lively and bustling place full of life.

But at this moment, the whole village was shrouded in darkness. There was no sign of human life anywhere. It was cold and deserted, as if it was an abandoned village, with an indescribable eerie feeling.

Su Wenjun was always bold and impatient. Seeing the village was quiet, he couldn't help but shout at the top of his voice: "Is anyone here? We are just passing by and are tired from traveling. We want to stay in the village for one night. Is anyone there?"

His loud shouts continued to echo in the empty village, but strangely, after a long time, no one responded.

Seeing this, the village chief, Su Hu and Su Wenjun all started to murmur in their hearts. A feeling of uneasiness gradually came over them. They did not dare to stay any longer and prepared to turn around and go back.

Suddenly, a few faint sounds of dog barking were heard from the distance of the village. In this quiet and somewhat eerie atmosphere, the barking of dogs seemed particularly abrupt.

Then, they saw a figure holding an oil lamp, slowly walking towards them.

Upon seeing this, the village chief's originally uneasy heart was suddenly filled with surprise. He quickly raised his eyes to look at the person who came. When he got closer, he could see clearly that it turned out to be an old man with completely white hair.

The village chief stepped forward and said earnestly, "Old man, we are passing by here and are exhausted from our long journey. We would like to stay overnight in your village. Is that convenient?"

The old man stopped, holding up the oil lamp, and looked them up and down in the dim light. Then he slowly said, "You can stay wherever you want. Alas, everyone in our village has fled because of the famine, and only a few of us old people are left to guard this village."

When the village chief heard this, his eyes widened in surprise. He quickly asked, "Old man, why don't you go and escape the famine? Everyone has left because of the famine. It must be so hard for you to stay here."

The old man shook his head gently, his face full of helplessness and vicissitudes, and slowly said: "We are all old and our bodies are not good. If we go, we will only be a burden to our children. Now we will guard this village and live one day at a time. It can also be regarded as guarding our roots."

After saying that, the old man turned around and walked away slowly, holding the oil lamp. His back looked particularly lonely in the dim light.

The village chief felt a little reluctant to watch the old man leave, but Su Mingjun was not one to read people's expressions. "Village chief, can we invite everyone into the village now?"

The village chief gathered his thoughts and said solemnly, "Call everyone in."

Soon, everyone from Sujia Village entered Huangling Village.

After entering the village, the village chief looked around, found a relatively spacious open space, and then arranged for everyone to gather in this open space.

For safety reasons, the village chief did not allow villagers to enter the houses in Huangling Village at will.

After all, in this unfamiliar place, it is better for everyone to gather together than to disperse. If any emergency occurs, everyone can take care of each other in the first time.
