Chapter 181 Should we go and finish this up?
"Was it done discreetly? Did anyone see it? Should we clean up the mess?"
“Um…” Lan Su originally thought that even if Mr. Yuan wouldn’t blame her, it would only be after he understood the whole story.
Mr. Yuan hadn't asked a single question until Lan Su took the initiative and directly raised these three questions, which surprised her somewhat.
"Don't worry, Granny Yuan. If people could see what I'm doing, all the skills I've learned over the years would have been for nothing."
"I know you're highly skilled and daring, but in the future, unless absolutely necessary, don't make a scene in someone else's yard. It gets too complicated and the cleanup will be a hassle." Yuan Hongqu glanced at Lan Su indifferently.
This glance made Lan Su inexplicably feel that Granny Yuan seemed to be an expert at ambushing people. Even if she had never done it herself, she had seen it many times.
"I guarantee that Xue the idiot doesn't even know if I'm a man or a woman," Lan Su assured him, holding up her finger.
"Granny, I covered for Sister Lan Su for no more than a quarter of an hour. Nobody knows," Daiyu said with a grin. "We were just doing our duty and ridding the people of a scourge."
"You joined in the nonsense too?" Yuan Hongqu knew that Daiyu was involved in this matter, but she didn't expect that she was also keeping watch. This was outrageous!
"Hehe...it wasn't really that outrageous, just a minor punishment to teach a lesson. Who knew even Heaven couldn't stand it and let that bad guy break his leg!" Daiyu said proudly. "We were acting on behalf of Heaven!"
"A minor punishment to serve as a warning? Acting on behalf of Heaven? Zijuan, confiscate all the storybooks your young lady has been reading lately." Yuan Hongqu felt a sense of foreboding, but her face remained impassive.
"Granny, I haven't finished reading it yet. I'll put it away after I finish reading it..." Daiyu became anxious upon hearing this.
"You've only watched it for two days, and you've already become like this. If you wait until you finish watching it, won't you turn into a female bandit queen?" Yuan Hongqu repeatedly warned herself not to be soft-hearted, not to be soft-hearted again. The consequence of her being soft-hearted was that she would spoil Daiyu mindlessly, spoiling her to the point of not giving her the stars or the moon.
With Daiyu's birthday approaching next month, if she hasn't detached herself from these books by then and still acts like a chivalrous woman, what will happen?
Yuan Hongqu herself didn't think there was anything wrong with it, but it would be bad if the noble ladies who came to celebrate ridiculed the Lin family girl for being ill-mannered.
Seeing that Daiyu was about to plead again, Yuan Hongqu hardened her heart and refused to look into her eyes. Instead, she said, "These days, you should calm down and be a good little princess. After your birthday banquet, if you still want to be a chivalrous woman, we'll talk about it then."
Daiyu pouted, knowing that this was already the biggest concession Yuan Mama had made, and felt somewhat dejected.
But then she remembered something and immediately pulled Yuan Hongqu aside, saying, "Granny, if you do something wrong, you should be punished. But if you do something good, shouldn't you be rewarded?"
Yuan Hongqu knew that this mischievous girl must have some kind of wicked idea in her head, so she didn't go along with her words. Instead, she said, "That depends on what kind of good thing it is. Some things you think are good, but they may not be."
"Granny, isn't it a good thing to uphold justice?" Daiyu asked, puzzled.
"What you consider chivalry might be seen as bullying or thuggish behavior by others. You can't rely on your superiority to judge things based solely on your eyes and ears. Do you understand the course of events and the reasons behind them? If they are truly bad people, that's one thing, but what if you accidentally hurt an innocent person? Wouldn't you feel guilty for the rest of your life?"
"Granny, I didn't think that much about it." Daiyu pondered carefully and felt a little alarmed, but she felt that she had not done anything wrong in what happened today.
“You are a very perceptive person, so I am not worried about your judgment. But if someone misleads you, or if there is a lot of talk, you may unknowingly be led by the nose.”
"I understand, Granny. I won't be so reckless next time," Daiyu said in a low, somewhat dejected voice.
“It’s not that you’re reckless; it’s because you have a heart that wants to help the weak and punish the strong. But you’re too young, inexperienced, and not very good at protecting yourself. You might not be able to help others and end up getting yourself into trouble. So, let’s not be reckless. Let’s wait until you’re older. Let the adults handle these things for now!” Yuan Hongqu gently comforted Daiyu.
"Grandma, when will I grow up? I wish I could wake up one morning and become an adult."
"Sleep well, eat well, and you'll definitely be a little bigger tomorrow than you are today," Yuan Hongqu teased Daiyu.
"Granny, you're teasing me again..." Daiyu chuckled, then yawned, "I really am a little sleepy."
"You've been playing at the Jia mansion all day, you must be tired faster than usual. Let Xueyan and the others take you to bed early, and I'll teach you a new boxing style tomorrow morning." With a stick followed by a sweet treat, Yuan Hongqu would never let Daiyu go to sleep with a heavy heart.
Daiyu had already mastered the first move of Wing Chun and had been pestering Yuan Hongqu to teach her the next move.
Hearing that Granny Yuan hadn't scolded her, but instead said she would teach her a new boxing style tomorrow, her slight frustration vanished instantly, and she happily followed Zijuan and Xueyan to get ready for bed.
"Mr. Yuan, I'll be going down now." Seeing Daiyu leave, Lan Su breathed a sigh of relief and was about to follow her out.
"Why are you in such a hurry? She's just a child. How can she not go to bed early? As a martial artist, whether you go to bed a little earlier or later won't have much of an impact on you." Yuan Hongqu raised an eyebrow and glanced at Lan Su.
"Tell me, why did you end up beating up that idiot Xue?"
“Mr. Yuan, I am the young lady’s person. I only obey her orders. I will do whatever she tells me to do. Why don’t you go and ask the young lady again?”
Lan Su realized that Mr. Yuan only cared about the girl. Even if the girl poked a hole in the sky, Mr. Yuan would probably say, "That's good, it makes things brighter!"
Since that's the case, why not just let the girl take on all the responsibilities? Wouldn't that save a lot of trouble?
Yuan Hongqu glanced at Lan Su, her voice cold, "You are someone I got from Lan Cong. If you only want to lead the girl astray, I don't care about anything else. Just go find your brother and let him discipline her himself."
"Granny Yuan, please don't. I was just joking," Lan Su hurriedly said. She didn't want to face Lan Cong's perpetually icy face. Besides, Lan Cong's so-called discipline was nothing more than a real confrontation with her, not a pretense, but a real battle.
She could only escape from Lan Cong if she was stronger than him, so over the years she was constantly being chased by Lan Cong to practice martial arts, and occasionally she could even beat him a few moves.
But she didn't want to go back to Lan Cong's side and be disciplined by him!
"You idiot Xue, you deserve it! That leg was only broken. I originally wanted to chop it off, but I was afraid it would be too bloody and scare the girl."
