Chapter 279 The Empress is Going to the Lin Family
Yuan Hongqu saw off a group of qualified graduates and welcomed a new group of students.
Daiyu skipped directly to the advanced class this year because she felt the intermediate class was no longer interesting and the content was too superficial for her.
Yuan Hongqu told her to choose whatever she wanted. The academy divided students into grade levels by age, but special cases could be handled specially, and it was possible to make an exception for geniuses!
As Daiyu becomes increasingly independent, Yuan Hongqu, her governess, knows that it's time to let go appropriately.
Otherwise, if we wait until Daiyu grows up and then try to let go, I'm afraid even I won't be able to accept it, let alone whether Daiyu can adapt.
Daiyu can now freely enter and exit the space. Before Daiyu could go anywhere within the space, Yuan Hongqu had already told her about its origins:
This blessed land was actually her home hundreds of years in the future, and every detail inside was meticulously crafted by her.
Daiyu had entered this place many times in her dreams, so she didn't feel unfamiliar with it. As for those modern things, she had seen Yuan Hongqu use them and tried them once herself, so she knew how to use them.
For example, the motion-sensor light on the table, and the speaker that can play music, etc. She learned how to do the slightly more complicated things after following Yuan Hongqu's example once.
But these are all secondary; Daiyu's favorite place is the study here.
The study is on the second floor. The bookshelves reach the ceiling, taking up two and a half walls. The other wall is a full-length window, and when the automatic curtains are opened, the courtyard outside can be seen in its entirety.
A desk stood by the window, complete with all the four treasures of the study—writing brush, ink stick, inkstone, and paper. These were things that Yuan Hongqu had added after Daiyu began to enjoy coming to the study.
Previously, this place only contained simple modern items such as laptops and desk lamps, but now all of these items have been taken by Yuan Hongqu to another studio.
That studio is now almost abandoned, filled with all sorts of electronic products. There's no internet in the space, so it's practically useless.
The books in Yuan Hongqu's study were diverse, and those that could be placed on her bookshelves were all classic books or representative series that she had carefully selected.
For books she usually reads to pass the time and relieve boredom, she typically chooses e-books.
Fortunately, she had a habit of collecting paper books, otherwise Daiyu wouldn't have been able to see so many books!
Daiyu spends almost half an hour here reading every day.
Every evening after dinner, she would first take a leisurely stroll around the Koi Lake in the garden, and then go to the Star Gazing Pavilion to look at the stars.
When people are stargazing at the Star Gazing Pavilion, no one is allowed to disturb them. Even Lan Su can only wait downstairs in the pavilion.
She won't stay up for long before going to read a book in her personal space.
I could have brought the books out to read, but the environment inside was just too comfortable.
Reading in the space was the ultimate enjoyment, and Daiyu didn't want to come out at all.
If it weren't for having too many maids around her, she would even like to stay in the space at night.
However, she only thought about it.
Daiyu increasingly understood why she always felt that Granny Yuan was so different from the people in this world.
The shocking behavior and language of Granny Yuan all stemmed from the fact that she was born in an era of equality for all, an era in which both men and women were free.
There's always been a strange sense of alienation between the original Granny and the present world, and that's probably why.
Daiyu was filled with longing for the era in which the space existed.
Yuan Hongqu described all the best aspects of that world to Daiyu.
She didn't mention any of those dark aspects to Daiyu.
As time passed, Yuan Hongqu had been gone from that world for many years. The bad things about that world had long been buried, and what she could remember most were the good things about that era.
Nothing major ever happens at the Lin family's place; the biggest thing is that Lin Ruhai is going to the capital to report on his duties again.
For example, a summons from the Empress in the palace would be a momentous event in other families, but it was commonplace in the Lin family.
When other concubines left the palace to return to their parents' homes, not only did they need approval and permission from within the palace, but their families outside the palace were also in a state of chaos, serving them with utmost care and caution.
However, these ladies-in-waiting do not include the Empress.
At this year's opening ceremony of the girls' academy, the Empress attended incognito as a graduating senior.
After the ceremony, she tugged at Yuan Hongqu's sleeve, insisting on going with her to visit the Lin family.
Yuan Hongqu was too lazy to invite a great deity to her home.
Empress Zhao Huajing turned around and pulled her junior sister Daiyu back.
"Junior sister, can I come to your house today? I've heard that your Koi Lake is a wonder of the world, and the swans on the lake don't even fly south for the winter. I've always wanted to see it for myself."
"It would be an honor for my family if my senior sister were to visit my home," Daiyu said with a smile, completely unaware of the look that Granny Yuan was giving her.
Zhao Huajing said happily, "Come sit in my car, and we can talk as we drive. Mr. Yuan is afraid of noise, so we won't bother him."
She knew that Yuan Hongqu was unwilling to let her go to the Lin family, simply because she was afraid that others would find out that the Empress had gone to the Lin family incognito.
They seem to be pampered now, but if one day you find them disagreeable and nitpick at any mistake in their home, it could be fatal.
However, Zhao Huajing would not allow such a thing to happen.
If Yuan Hongqu knew what Zhao Huajing was thinking, she would definitely say that she was overthinking it.
Yuan Hongqu simply didn't want to entertain Zhao Huajing at the Lin family's house because she was lazy.
Although Zhao Huajing was once her student, now that her student has become the Empress, Yuan Hongqu cannot ignore this fact, making it impossible for her to treat Zhao Huajing the same way as before.
However, Zhao Huajing still cherishes the memories of the time she spent with Yuan Hongqu.
She always believed that the years she spent with Mr. Yuan were the most carefree and relaxed time of her life.
Since then, she has been using the lingering warmth of that time to encourage herself to move forward.
Zhao Huajing and Daiyu chatted freely inside the carriage.
"The koi carp, both big and small, in Koi Lake have now started to emerge. Before, when the weather was cold, they would only come out for a short while during the warmest part of the day. The cygnets that hatched last year can now dance with the adult swans, but they always like to fly around randomly. Last time, one flew into someone's garden and almost got left behind. Luckily, our swans have unique markings, which is how we managed to find them."
Daiyu was young, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that she was innocent, naive, and unaware of the ways of the world.
Although she is intelligent and independent, she still retains her childlike innocence.
When the Empress saw her, she was reminded of herself in the past.
But how come this junior sister's personality and behavior seem to resemble Mr. Yuan's?
Zhao Huajing attributed this to Mr. Yuan and her junior sister living together.
She couldn't help but feel envious.
Mr. Yuan is very good at taking care of children, and this junior sister has become even stronger after this winter.
My junior sister was like a soft willow branch from Jiangnan, ethereal and fleeting.
The junior sister now, however, is like a red willow in the desert, resilient and strong...
Although Daiyu knew that the person she was facing was the Empress, after seeing her so many times, she really began to regard the Empress as her senior sister.
