Chapter 400 Longan Snow Mochi

Chapter 400 Longan Snow Mochi

Daiyu gazed at the distant water. Although it was just a river and not an ocean, the water was so vast that one could not see the edge at all.

She couldn't help but let out a long sigh.

"If the riverbank is like this, I can only imagine how magnificent the sea must be!"

"The sea? If you want to see the sea, it's not hard. Just go to Tianjin, there's a sea there. Don't you know that?" The Tenth Prince sat steadily on the stool where Daiyu had just been sitting, holding a fishing rod.

"Of course I know," Daiyu said with some regret.

“Our academy’s study tour this fall is going there, but I won’t be able to make it.”

"We can go again next time. The sea is still there, it's not going anywhere," the Tenth Prince said dismissively.

"That's true, but life is unpredictable. No one knows what will happen tomorrow, and who can say what will happen in the future?"

Unlike the Tenth Prince, Daiyu was not optimistic. Her melancholy and sentimental nature would occasionally show.

The Tenth Prince paused for a moment, his voice sounding somewhat strange.

"Don't worry, you'll never encounter anything like 'the sea dries up and the rocks crumble,' or 'the ocean turns into mulberry fields' in your lifetime!"

He lowered his head slightly, seemingly somewhat saddened.

Daiyu thought to herself, "I didn't say any of this. Why did the Tenth Prince bring it up?"

However, his words interrupted her, and her little bit of emotion dissipated.

At this moment, Xueyan brought over some snacks and tea. Daiyu saw that there were her favorite mochi pineapple cakes and two kinds of savory cakes.

It was obvious that this was sent by Mr. Yuan. Cakes are especially labor-intensive to make, so the Queen rarely had them made in order to show her benevolence.

Yuan Hongqu didn't care; she had machines, so it didn't require any manual labor.

Seeing that the Tenth Prince was staring at the fishing rod and seemed uninterested in the snacks, Daiyu made no attempt to share them with him.

A cup of tea will suffice; as for snacks or anything like that?

Her father said that men don't like snacks!

Daiyu held a small-sized mochi that had been specially made for her. This was not the kind of mochi she usually ate at home; it was the kind that her family made especially for banquets.

Each one is tiny, smaller than a beef ball.

Because Daiyu loved the taste and appearance of the mochi, she wanted to let her friends try it too.

Even the smallest mochi is the size of a child's fist, and it's filled with semi-fluid cream. Once you bite through the chewy outer skin, it easily spills out. Although it's served in a pretty paper cup, it still doesn't look very elegant in the end.

So Yuan Hongqu made these mini mochi, which taste exactly the same as mochi, and use the same ingredients and processes, but each one is only the size of a longan.

Therefore, it also has another name, "Longan Snow Skin Mooncake". Don't be fooled by its small size, it is very generous with its ingredients, including cream, biscuit crumbs, and fruit pieces.

The tiny snow skin mooncake is pure white and perfectly round, soft and chewy, and at first glance, it looks just like a large, white pearl.

Daiyu ate them one after another with relish.

The Tenth Prince next to him twitched his eyes, thinking to himself that this little girl from the Lin family had really good teeth, and she could eat pearls without even breaking a sweat.

Are the Lin family born with iron teeth and bronze fangs?

"What is that? Give me one." Although the Tenth Prince had this question in his mind, he knew that it couldn't be a pearl, but just some kind of pastry made into pearls.

"Here you are," Daiyu said, handing the plate over directly.

The Tenth Prince hesitated for a moment, then reached out and picked up a "pearl." It was soft and slightly cool to the touch.

He put the mochi in his mouth, his teeth first touching the chewy outer skin, which was slightly sweet and had a chewy texture. When he bit through the outer skin, something inside seemed to melt sweetly in his mouth. However, there were some small particles that were slightly bitter, but they just balanced out the overly sweet taste. The two flavors complemented each other perfectly. There were also some larger particles that tasted sweet and sour, almost like fruit.

He couldn't identify the fruit, but Daiyu quickly explained it to him.

"This is mochi, made with glutinous rice flour for the skin, and filled with cream, cookie crumbs, and fruit pieces. Today's filling is strawberries."

The Tenth Prince swallowed the mochi in his mouth, feeling that he hadn't even really tasted it before it was gone.

Looking at the plate again, there was only one left. He picked it up without hesitation and ate it.

"It's too small, not satisfying enough to eat."

Daiyu was stunned for a moment.

“It was originally this big,” she gestured, “but it was made smaller because it’s inconvenient to eat out.”

"Have someone make some bigger ones tomorrow," the Tenth Prince casually ordered, but Daiyu's expression changed. They weren't that close, and it was already generous of him to have a taste; why was he asking her for more?

"Tenth Prince, these are not easy to make. Otherwise, I'll have someone write down the recipe for you, and you can have the pastry chefs in the Imperial Kitchen make them for you!"

Daiyu knew immediately upon tasting it that it was specially made for her by her nanny, and that all the ingredients inside were products from the space.

If it's made by another pastry chef, then it doesn't matter. They use external ingredients, so the taste might be slightly worse, but not by much.

However, if the Tenth Prince wants to eat it, she definitely won't let him eat the products made in her space. If he gets addicted, she might get into trouble!

So currently, apart from medicinal herbs, she and her husband only grow a small amount of other commonly used fruits and vegetables in the space, so as not to send too much to outsiders and cause some people to get used to eating them and then ask them for more, which would be too much trouble!

The Tenth Prince didn't speak, but turned his gaze to the other pastries, which all looked quite delicious.

He simply let go of the fishing rod, grabbed the plate, and began to feast.

Daiyu had only eaten a few mochi pieces when she saw the Tenth Prince take the plate away. She couldn't snatch it back, and she was furious!

"This is not bad either. I think it's even better than Xue Meiniang. Send some over tomorrow." The Tenth Prince clearly hadn't listened to what Daiyu had just said.

Taking advantage of the fact that he was preoccupied with eating and not paying attention to her, Daiyu rolled her eyes at him.

"Tenth Prince, why don't you go and mention to the Empress that you like these two kinds of desserts, and have the Imperial Kitchen make them for you?"

"The Imperial Kitchen can't replicate this taste." The Tenth Prince finished a plate of pastries, still wanting more.

"Where's the maid who brought the snacks? Tell her to go and get another plate."

This is the only plate of dessert she has for tonight. The nanny has set the quantity, and even if she goes into her spatial dimension, the nanny won't let her eat any more.

But this dog of a prince ate them all!

Daiyu was on the verge of tears, but remained silent.

The Tenth Prince was surprised and looked up at Daiyu.

Suddenly, a pang of pain shot through my heart, and tears streamed down my face.
